You will enjoy the lens i am sure. Here are some pics i took with it on my k100d so you can see how SR works well with it. Both are hand held. Have fun with yours!

I posted on here and dpreview that mine i imported from Japan to UK was front focusing bad. Sent it back for a refund. Must point out that though the focus point was a good 2 cms in front of the chosen point it was nice and sharp at 2.8. Will definatly get another but from a UK shop sometime.

I have the Tamron and use it with the Tamron 1.4 x tc. My copy is very sharp and has very very rarely had purple fringing. I posted many shots with this lens a while ago on dpreview to show just how good mine is. However there are many reports of copies with lots of purple fringing so it is a risk you take. I paid half of what the Sigma goes for.

To be honest i am really fed up with it and have had enough of the thing. Sorry but not going to go through all the focus chart stuff when the lens cant focus right on a flat plain. Good luck with what you choose.

Yep got it today. I have been unlucky though. Severe front focus and i will have to send it back. Did not need to do an accurate test as the focus is so badly out. Posted details on the post in dpreview.com

I would imagine you should have one within a month. In UK the warranty is only a year. The store i ordered from has a good rep and gives a free 3 year warranty so i have no problems with orderering from Japan and it is a lot cheaper for me too. The only trip abroad for me for a while is to Dublin and I really want the lens for that trip so i was not prepared to wait.

[QUOTE=ankit;194843]Any links to these reports?

I wonder when this will be available at adorama/B&H. With these potential focusing problems I don't think I want to order it from japan.

QUOTE]

Not going to search high and low for em but they will have either been posted on the Pentax forums of dpreview or steves digicams as they are the forums i look in most. I think i have seen 4 users give a recommendation including the one on here. Like i said i came across em but did not really record where

If you are in no hurry why would you order from Japan when Tamron USA give you a 5 or 6 year warranty i believe.[/

I only have a K100D so that is what i will be pairing with. I would think mine will be from the first lot produced but will have to wait and see if i have the same focus issue. Too bad your second copy is doing the same thing.
I have several lenses but my only fast AF lens is the FA50 1.4 which when used with the camera it will FF upto f2.4. However i am aware of why this happens and it is the k100d focus points which are not aligned right so i am able to compensate this.
Sorry but i dont do the sort of testing some do. All i do is shoot off some shots at wide open at a newspaper at 45 degree angle. If they look good then thats good enough for me. Of course i also check corner sharpness but this lens should be fine at that. The real test comes in everyday use as far as i am concerned.

I decided to order from the shop of the link to the ebay seller which was posted in the second post. Only comes with a Japan i year warranty as well as a 3 year store warranty which they say they will honour without problems. They are sending as a gift so hopefully final price will be 206 quid delivered to UK. Yes it is a risk but a friend has got stuff from them before without problems and they do have a proper shop. Expect it at end of next week.

No one was calling you a liar....just pointing out the lack of evidence which you have now posted. However i am not entirely convinced as it could very well be the camera. You said yourself it is not easy to verify focus with a wide 14mm lens at 2.8 and thats why i asked if you had tested at f4 on the Tamron.
My fa50 1.4 has back focus up to f2 but after that you can not tell.

Yep i see em now. I was wondering why you did not do the testing at f4 like you did with the Sigma? Is it not possible your camera is the culprit and this only becomes apparent at apertures of 2.8 or bigger?
I myself am patiently waiting for the lens as soon as it hits in th UK. Hope you get a better copy next time round.

Good to know it is getting out there. Too bad you did not get a good copy but why did you not post a pic showing the problem or give details in how you tested it? It is always best to back up any claims you make regarding faults imo.
Tamron lenses are normally very good and i have never had an issue with any so i am thinking you got a dud but it is a shame if it puts people off the scent of this lens. I know that was not your intention but it will never the less happen.

Tamron 17-50 or DA21

You decided against the 17-50 cos 1 guy has an early model in Pentax mount that he says is not focusing right? I did not see any samples posted showing the problem did you?
I am not calling Kameraten a liar or anything and his copy may very well be having front focusing but i see no evidence to state his claim or any info regarding how the testing was done. Besides every lens manufacturer will have a dud or two but tamron is certainly better than many in quality control.:hmm:

front focus?

When i use the fa 50 1.4 with my K100D at very large apertures i always select the bottom right focus point to get a focus lock and then recompose the pic. It is the only way i can be sure i wont get a front focus issue. The focus points on my camera are not aligned right and if i use the spot focus i get front focus. I have got so used to this it does not bother me one bit and was thinking you may have misaligned focus points too that are only evident when using very large apertures that have narrow depth of field

I have the Tamron AF 1.4x tc also and the instructions do say it may not work as AF at F4 or smaller but it has always worked with my DA 50-200 regardless of aperture setting
