Great point. There is no reason to re-badge cameras with different numbers/names when they are rehashes of the same model....In years gone by, Camera companies would give models a 4 to 5 year lifespan. This is good for business and good for cameras. Since modern digital cameras can be retrofitted via software/firmware fixes, they do not need to keep "upgrading" the same cameras. Obviously, if a sudden new technology greatly enhances the camera's ability to function for the user, then that would be cause for a replacement.
I use my K-5 ii (which I bought new in box last year). It's several years old, but performs flawlessly. In fact, I will sometimes use it in lieu of the K-1 or the K-3ii. Nonetheless, I anticipate the new APS-c by Pentax next year. I am not sure if I will buy it unless it has been totally upgraded and is a quantum leap ahead of the KP. Otherwise, I will soldier on with my K-3 ii (only 6,000 snaps) and my KP (4,000 snaps).
Happy Holidays Everyone !!!!

I have no issue with a k-33 either (denotes next gen body style. I agree with Zygonyx that with the new body style, a new marque has to be created.

I use a Olympus OM-D 10 Mark III that I recently purchased after seeing Walter's (Presto) MK ii. I also have a Leica D-lux 7 (1" sensor). It truly does amaze me how good these small sensors are for regular sized photos, particularly in light of their price tags.

Having only been in the Pentax universe since 2004, I am not familiar with these terms. However, now being solidly invested in the 'K' System, I am hopeful that the new APS-c camera that was teased a couple months ago is a true upgrade. Even though Ricoh/Pentax has a small segment of the market, the K-3/ii series users who did not like the KP will flood in and buy this new offering. As it is, Pentax continues to offer build quality and value in the marketplace.
