Which body to get?

For Pentax film bodies I would look for a PZ-1p. The viewfinder view is very good! I agree that the Oly OM-1 is no slouch.

Does the Pentax DFA 150-450 hold focus and focal length when pointed up or down?

I have experienced neither using the 150-450 on a gimbal head. When hand holding, there is no slippage but the weight makes things awkward. I leave the tripod mounting handle on to help handling. This is not a ďwalk-aroundĒ lens. However the IQ is great and it is excellent for wildlife photography.

Polarizing Filter Pricing

For polarizing filters, there have been some technology advances in the past few years. This has allowed polarizers to polarize without the massive light loss seen in the past. Check out the Hoya version:

HOYA | HD CIR-PL

I can confirm the roughly 2 thirds stop of extra transmission. I like these.

20-40 vs 16-85 what would you bring for travel?

For me the 16-85 is the ticket. Usually travel with it, the 55-300 PLM and either the 14, 12-24, or 15.

Anybody smart about Pentax Eyepieces for telescopes?

In short: no. Pentax makes some wonderful eyepieces including the XW series (I own the 40, 30, and 20). The XR series are also good for their intended purpose in spotting scopes. Eyepieces make a big difference if the main optics allow it. The objective or mirror will define the limiting magnitude and color correction (with small refractors). I would invest in the telescope that suits your observing or imaging goals. After this, you can upgrade eyepieces. In longer focal length scopes, even cheap eyepieces work fine. In shorter focal length scopes.....not so much....you need good eyepieces to get the most out those scopes.

Digital or Film

Shoot both (80% digital; 20% digital). I use film for Black and white as I feel that the grain characteristics are unique for film. Color is mostly digital.

Microphone for KP

Lots of Mics out there. Personally I would avoid the camera powered mics in favor of mics with their own power. Rode makes a nice stereo mic that will work well. I think a better option is something like the Rode video mic pro which is dual mono but very directional. Depends upon your application. Stereo mics are good for immersive nature walks etc. the directional mics are best for interviews, YouTube content and music. One feature to look for is a +/-dB mode for different sound environments. Rode mics have nice accessories like boom, extension cords and adapters for your iPhone.

In my experience with the K-1 and K-1ii, there is little or no frame rate benefit from the square format. APS-c frame rate benefit is striking.

For me itís the DA 14 2.8. Many prefer the other options (DA 15, DA 12-24). I have all of these but still love the DA14 for itís close focusing and rendering.

Pentax 50mm, a specific question

Well the reviews of the many 50s are pretty complete so I am sure most of the quirks are in there somewhere. I own 6 50mm lenses and have used and sold many more. Here is my take:

The manual focus on the M and A series is so wonderfully damped and responsive that I much prefer them to the F and FA series.

The 50 macros are versatile but somewhat slower (2.8)

The large aperture 50s can produce dreamy images hard to reproduce in PP.
My favorite is the A 50 1.2.

As others have stated get a good hood.

The FA 1.4 (or1.7) are good overall choices.

Hope you enjoy your 50!

I have seen that lens behind the counter at the NYC store. Itís a monster and they probably donít want to sell since it draws attention to that counter. Saw it when I bought my 150-450.

A50 1.2 for me. Also love the M 28 2.0. The focus rings on both are just a joy to use.

Do you use Live View or Viewfinder

I use the viewfinder about 80% of the time handheld. On tripod itís about 50:50. For macro itís almost 100% LV.

Traveling with DA* 50-135 or 55-300 PLM?

DA 16-85 and 55-300 PLM on K-3 is my travel kit. Very versatile. My two K-1iiís are used with full frame lenses for local travel. The PLM is very compact for a telephoto and gives decent IQ. I sold my DA* 50-135 since I rarely use it. FA* 80-200 and DFA 150-450 are my other telephoto options but they are heavy and find use only when traveling by car.

Tale of two lenses - DFA 15-30 and Contax 85 Sonnar

Nice comparison. The 15-30 shot lacks foreground interest so the the telephoto shot seems a better choice for the scene. The stitched image has a different exposure/color balance so hard to compare. The clouds present a real challenge for stitching unless stationary. A substantial percentage of my landscapes are shot with a telephoto.

Upgrade Question - Upcoming ASP-C Flagship or K1 Mk ii ?
Posted By Pentax Syntax

To me it is dependent on your lens collection. The K-1 and K-1ii I bought to take full advantage from great legacy lenses (A 50 1.2, 28-70 FA*,80-200 FA* etc). I subsequently upgraded the K-1 to the K-1ii to more effectively use those lenses. My K-3 gets a lot of use as a travel camera. I would let your lenses and applications dictate you choice. Canít go wrong either way but the K-3ii successor may not appear any time soon.

Thanks for posting. I like the look!
The low saturation/high contrast is very appealing and hard to get right in digital. My film work is almost entirely B&W but this looks fun.

I use the case that comes with the 150-450 but replaced the strap with an optech wide strap. Case is versatile and can carry the lens/camera combo.

Would Like to Use Hot Shoe for O-GPS1 and Wireless Flash Trigger Simultaneously

I just confirmed that the pass through to the the O-GPS1 on my K-3 works with the Pentax adapter I linked to ( Hot Shoe Adapter F). It would provide a way to do what you want. I have used with wireless flash with the 360FTZ and 540 FTZ flashes.

I think you can use this if you can find one :
Pentax Hot Shoe Adapter F for Extension of the Camera TTL Hot Shoe AND Off-Camera TTL Flash Capability - Requires Off-Camera Shoe Adapter F & F5P (or F5PL) Extension Cord (Not Included) | ShaShinKi Malaysia First & Largest Online Camera Shop

Itís the hot shoe adapter F. It allows you to use a cable to add a hot shoe adapter and still allow a pass through on the camera hotshoe.

A little hard to find now.

I have that pouch I use with the FA* 28-70. It works fine. No handle and no belt strap though. I like the large tamrac pouches in the field. Nice belt loops.

Letís see what prints I have to scan or photograph. I am a bit of an oddball since I only print from film but rarely scan to digital format. The whole workflow is different and the result is often very satisfying with film.
