Ricoh should revisit K01

I've often thought, that IF Ricoh were to make a mirrorless, it would be advantageous to join the L-mount alliance. Make it a Ricoh branded camera, so as not to upset Pentax Branding and philosophy.
Make it aps-c, L-mount, with EVF, for use with longer lenses, make a L to K mount adapter, that has full AF and Aperture control , so as current Pentax lens owner can use it with the latest DA and DFA lenses, with full AF and Exposure control. Use Pentax hotshoe, so as Pentax flashes can be used as well.

Problem is tho....... They would be making a camera that would directly be in competition with the latest Pentax cameras. Would this be a bad thing?

Two answers.

Yes,,,, there would be people that currently buy Pentax cameras, but want a mirrorless, but continue to buy dslrs because they have so much invested in glass, So they would jump on a Ricoh branded milc, and not buy the latest Pentax offering.

No...There would be the ability to keep current Pentax users that want milc's and that eventually jump ship and swap out their entire system to get it. (Just as we saw people do for years over FF when there was no K-1)So they wouldn't be loosing a customer to another brand, Thus keeping the people that want milc in the Pentax/Ricoh family.
They would use their current lenses, stay with a brand they love, have both milc and dslrs that use the same lenses and be able to buy new L-mount lenses. As well, being that there would be an L-K mount adapter, other brand milcs would then have access to Pentax glass, that could lead to a lot more sales of Pentax glass in general.

Plus, as far as having to produce a new range of milc lenses, they would really only have to develop (or reband) a couple of lenses, that would mean not having to have a huge investment in R&D and manufacturing to be in the milc market.

Could be a cheap way into the market, Keep existing customers, and open up to new ones. Plus, theres probably a lot of Pentax folks that have no interest in a milc, that woul d probably get one to use in with their current system.

Focus ring jammed on a SMC Pentax A* 300 mm f/2.8

Just wondering, does the focus collar have a manual lock knob on it, or some kind of focus limiting setting? I noticed there is a "focus preset collar" on this lens, has it been twisted to a position that completely locks up the collar???

I know that on my FA*600/f4 the focus limiter is a bit tricky, and if you try to set it when not at infinity it can freeze up the focus collar .

I would have loved to see a new Q.
Same size, happy enough with the Q7 sensor size, would love to have seen a removable EVF that would pop onto the hotshoe, the optical one is nice, but I would have prefered if it was EVF so as in strong daylight or when shooting with the telephoto and or adapter you could hod it nice and steady and WR of course . Also release that Macro lens.

@MarkJerling @Parallax Can someone please do something about the Troll.

He's got a few too many wallabies loose in the top paddock, if you know what I mean.

There should be a basic rule of conduct here, the forum is for health conversation, knowledge sharing, discussion and sharing of photos and contributing ideas.

The bloke has only made 28 posts in 5 years, 9 out of the blue in this thread, after years of absence and the rest of his posts were only ever photo nomination posts. And just jumping on after 5 years and posting all this nonsense should be rewarded with an IP ban, and deletion of all the posts here as they serve no other purpose, but to flagilate the posters ego.

I keep coming back to this photo. It's really very fine. I wonder at its last moments, I wonder what events happened to this soul, to cause it's demise. There's a certain strength in the way it died, apparent in the way it held it's head high, despite death.

I keep coming back to this photo. .

Yes, Yes, I have on many occasions "tested" the press quality by running a few images thru  . I can just drop in a jpeg direct from the camera and print out a poster B2 size 0n a 750mmx530mm sheet. they look awesome. I have even dropped in a jpeg from my Q7 and let the press RIP software resize to 750x530mm and it looks great.

The Ink Tubes. I think there's a shot of them in the video. weigh in at 3.5kg each, busy days I can go thru 2 to 3 tubes of each colour CMYK - thats about 30-36kg of ink in a day. Yesterday I printed over 14000 sheets of paper 4colour both sides - thats around 1200kg of paper. ( Yes. I have to load and unload it by hand)

Quite obscure, but at around the 1.50sec you just see, it's a Pentax 5.5x Photo Lupe. It's me holding it. It's what I do for a living, go easy on me, I have a limp from when I broke my back when I was 17. (I'm the guy operating the big machine)

Will Pentax bring a new camera to replace the K1 Mrk II?

Pentax cameras aren't phones or fashion items, there will not be a "new season" release every year. They release brilliant cameras, that take many years to need succession, and generally, Pentax people don't buy their cameras, hoping that it will be obsolete within a year, unlike their competitors, that have to release new models all the time, to keep people that buy their brand interested enough not to jump ship and go to the newest fashion item.

RAW. Is exactly that, the information captured at the time, anything else, adjusted, ie, 99% of everything you see posted. You can play around in post processing, or trust in your Pentax camera. I see different dslr's as different films, each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. OOC. Is an actual thing.

And, in my mind, very much a strength. .

Per. Roll of film, of different kinds, circa, let's say 1995, a good roll of film, was $17.00aud, for 36 photos, and $17.00 dollars to process, you, could afford to shoot, a roll a month, on holidays, 2 rolls.....and people today winge about buffers, when they can't take 4000200 photos in a row.... And have to wait 24seconds for buffering.
Try waiting, 4 months to be able to afford the cost of processing a roll of 36 photos you took a month and a half ago.

Polarizer insert for FA* 600mm lens

Yeah, Been chasing one of these myself, for years now. Rarer than hens teeth. Been thinking about trying to use a Circular Polarising filter in the standard drawer, and setting the rotation manually, pulling the drawer out and rotating it, and putting back in to check, as I predominantly shoot in "landscape" anyway. I was thinking just a quick wrap of teflon tape around the thread of the polarising filter would give it some tension in the holder so it wouldn't move or rotate by itself. Pentax should have only ever made the one drawer with the rotation wheel. This is where my Sigma 300mm/F2.8 is better than the Pentax designs as there is a filter rotation system built in to the lens barrel.

It's an awesome lens, in great condition, But, I can't have two of them.

Somebody said it's not a good time to sell.

In a different world, you would have had multiple people vying to grab hold of this stunner.
Maybe when the world returns to a form of normality, someone can turn attention to such an artefact, but for now, your inheritance, maybe should wait until the world is exhumed.

I've got a nice REYKA Vodka bottle sitting on my work desk as my water bottle. Boss walked in one day and saw me drinking from it, stared for a second, then I think the penny dropped. He did look worried for a bit.

When I was very young, here in Qld, we would get 5c a bottle, later 10c, a good part of most of our school holidays at the beach were spent finding bottles to cash in and buy lollies. Bottles were always softdrink glass bottles, there were no plastic bottles,. Our scout group would have bottle drives, were all the dad's would collect their beer bottles, and they would get money from the brewery, because it was cheaper to reuse bottles than make more. I can remember buying a bottle of coke or later when older a beer, and the bottle would be scratched and the painted on label worn. All cans back then were steel, no aluminium. Later as plastic bottles came along, no refund, it went away with the introduction of the throw away plastic, but cans, now being aluminium, could be collected, and you could get 17c per kilogram.

I think the reintroduction of the refund in Qld, is more about carbon points than actual responsibility. Regardless of that, it's a good thing to reduce landfill, which it really does. As would, using reusable bottles and filter water instead of buying a 30pack of water bottles to drink.
