Pentax DA* 300mm/f4 lens

Asking Price

Item Location

Item Description
[B]Pentax DA* 300mm/f4 lens, $550.00[B]
Price includes shipping. (Continental U.S. only)

It's been a long while since I've used or needed this beautiful lens, so it's time to go to a new home. It has been very lightly used and always handled with care. I had originally bought it for my sons' school sports, mostly rowing, and so I needed the reach. No more sports, and unfortunately I hardly even do any photography, period, so I might as well bring my kit down to basics. It's still kind of sad to see this one go.

This lens is in excellent condition, no scratches, chips, dust, fungus, etc. In fact, due to how deeply recessed the rear lens element is, I think it would be practically impossible to damage that, unless a person was grossly negligent. Lens elements are clear and aperture blades are perfect. It has always lived with a filter attached, which is included, a Hoya Pro1 Digital 77mm UV (0). The ONLY thing which would differentiate this lens from a brand-new one, is the slight wear on the finish of the bayonet lugs, which the lens hood attaches to. This hood is very secure, has a nice rubberized ring around its forward edge, and also has the removable window for rotation of a circular polarizer. Autofocus functions well and has been accurate on my K5IIs.

I have a hard time photographing lenses anyway, and this one was even more so due to the depth at which the aperture lies internally. I admit, my photography skills have gotten a bit rusty. :( If needed, I can try to get some better shots.

Please send a PM if interested. Thank you!

I'm debating / researching the use and future of Flickr myself, thus finding threads like this to help make my decision. I'd been a "Pro" user for a number of years but let it lapse more recently after "Oath" took over. I haven't added any photos in a long time, but I am well below the cut-off (maybe 300 - 400 photos total). I do think Flickr needs to rein certain users in though. There is a person in my Flickr contacts who just regurgitates everything he shoots into his Flickr account. Countless hundreds of very similar squirrel photos in a row, for example, no editing whatsoever. I just checked and he is up to 428,000 photos on Flickr!!! That number of images seems like an unmanageable waste of storage space.

For Sale - Sold: Pentax K-5 II camera body

A forum member had asked to see additional pictures of the "mark" on the rear LCD of this K-5 II camera body. So, I took additional photos to hopefully document the condition. I took numerous photos at different angles and with different lighting, but it's hardly visible. The only image where it can be clearly seen, is #5073, just above the letter "P" in Pentax. It should not detract from the operation or viewing with this camera, in any way. There are a few specks of dust, here and there; a black camera sitting in bright sunlight seems to really highlight such particles! Anyway, this camera is in great shape, like I said I only bought it for a back-up, and then never really ended up using it. It's amazing how the value on a camera body drops; something that listed at the time of its release for around $1000 bucks, (IIRC), can now be had around the $200 range. Although there are of course "newer and better" bodies released periodically, it's still a perfectly fine camera and a good value. It's a great time to be a buyer! Thanks for looking.

Item for Sale
Pentax K-5 II camera body

Asking Price
225.00 USD

Item Location
Michigan (United States)

Item Description
Pentax K-5 II camera body, excellent condition. Shutter count 6,387. Comes in original box with all cables and cords, strap, charger, user manual, etc. There is one very small mark on the back display screen but otherwise this camera looks like new. I had bought it from another forum member, as a back-up for my K-5 IIs, and I never ended up needing or using it. Other than a few test shots taken when I first bought it, this camera has just been sitting in the spare camera bag taking up space. Hopefully someone else can make better use of it.

Shipping will be either USPS, or UPS, and is included in the sale price, shipping to continental U.S. only. Payment accepted through Paypal.

Item for Sale
Pentax FA 43 Ltd

Asking Price
375.00 USD

Item Location
Michigan (United States)

Item Description
Pentax FA 43 Limited lens, black, mint condition. Made In Japan. Comes with original leather pouch, original rear cap, and dedicated velvet-lined FA 43 lens hood/cap. Original box and identification card included. Also included, (but not pictured), is a metal, wide-angle, screw-in lens hood, with generic cap. This hood is threaded and accepts 58 mm filters, if desired; I found this much more handy on this lens, than the original Pentax hood/cap. Lens surfaces are clean and clear, no scratches. Aperture blades function perfectly and are clean and oil-free. Lens interior is clean and clear, no dust or fungus. There is one miniscule speck, which is visible at certain angles, inside the rear element; it does not appear to be dust, and has not affected captured images. I have taken numerous photos of this lens at different angles trying to demonstrate its condition, but the speck is not readily apparent in the images, so I do want to pass this information on, in the interest of full disclosure. For all I know, it's been there the whole time I've owned it. I am the original owner of this lens.

This has been one of my favorite lenses over the years. I have used it on the K20D, and K5iis. Sadly, due to various personal and medical reasons, I've hardly even picked up a DSLR in the last couple of years, let alone this beauty of a lens. Rather than let it just languish in a camera bag, hopefully someone else will be able to make better use of it.

Shipping will be either USPS, or UPS, and is included in the sale price, shipping to continental U.S. only. Payment accepted through Paypal.

I am also listing a Pentax K-5 II camera body, which would make a great combo with this lens. Discount available if both items are purchased together. Thanks!

Edit: Someone was asking about the generic metal lens hood (not pictured). This is the lens hood, which comes with a 58 mm cap:

Photo Taken Date vs Making Date

"Letter of the law", vs "spirit of the law.". These three-year rules seem pretty common, and a lot of people probably say, "Ah, who's gonna know?" I've never seen any enforcement at these local contests- but it's a point of personal integrity. This extends to categorization as well. We have an annual juried contest, with entries for B&W, Color, and "Digitally Altered." The woman who took 1st place "Color", was then asked to speak to attendees about her work. With the organizers present, she revealed how she'd removed the entire background in Photoshop, so as to better isolate the butterfly subject. This should have clearly put her in the "Digitally-Altered" category- where she'd have faced much tougher competition. Those of us others, who were also juried into the "Color" category, felt cheated, yet nothing was said by the judges about her revelation. It certainly was discouraging to those of us who "played by the rules." And wouldn't you know, that same "winning" butterfly shot later popped up in at least four or five other shows afterward. What's that saying, "Cheaters never prosper?" Or was it, "Rules are made to be broken?" ; )

So true! One of my Flickr contacts would post shot after unedited shot, of nothing but squirrels. Out of focus? Poor lighting or composition? Who cares! Literally thousands and thousands of squirrel photos. So after seeing this thread, I went over to Flickr- as of today, that guy has 363,000 (!!!) images on Flickr! Today's latest batch? More squirrels! :O

Cactus V6 Mk II Announced

Hi Paulster,
You know, the V6ii ID was set to "0000". Pretty sure I checked it before and after, but I did change it to "0001". I'll try changing it back to 0000 plus do the factory reset, and see what happens. Yea I've been keeping the channels consistent, tried a few different ones but for most attempts the RF60 and V6ii have been on channel 1.

---------- Post added 01-29-17 at 09:48 PM ----------

Paulster you-are-a GENIUS! Changed Radio ID back to 0000, did Factory Reset, and we have a winner! V6ii and RF60 flashes communicate perfectly now. Thank you!

Any other suggestions? It seems like it"s got to be something simple that I've overlooked... I was pretty excited about the new HSS capability of the V6ii. Maybe I should return it for an exchange, and see how the replacement works? I just think all the trouble-shooting possibilities should be explored first, but I'm fresh out of ideas...

I've now tried changing the FW on the RF60 back to Ver. 200, but the V6ii still does not communicate. Then upgraded the RF60 FW to Ver. 204 (latest, which is what I had installed yesterday) again. Still no communication with V6ii, but the V6 again works perfectly. I've downloaded the user manuals for both RF60 and V6ii, yet neither seems to indicate other than, turn both units on and they should work, no fancy hocus-pocus needed. Again, RF60 on Slave, both V6ii and RF60 on Channel 1, Group A, Working Range short (tried from about 6 - 10 feet now, AND I've tried long range too just in case). I've also tried switching channels and groups to no avail. I have tried both with the V6ii on-camera and off, but it seems for this kind of testing, off-camera should be sufficient, right? (The V6 works fine that way for testing.) The V6ii camera profile is set to Pentax. Another question, could the flash profile set-up make a difference? I have tried both "Auto", as well as "Manual". I didn't think that it should be set to "Pentax AF540", for example, when using the Cactus flash. I'm stumped, any ideas?

One other thing, if I go to Power Mode on V6ii, then try to set to Absolute (set-up), then Sync Flash, it says "no flash found". If I do the same thing with the V6, it immediately finds the RF60. Also, when I first turn on V6ii, "Det.Flash" shows the the little square symbol with lightning bolt at top left corner, the inside of the box which would indicate "P", "N", etc. is blank.

EDIT: Sorry ClassA, I was typing last post apparently during your reply. Yes I've checked RF60s and they all show FW ver 204. Auto HSS is on. Group and channel settings are the same. The V6 has already been upgraded to 2.1.001.

---------- Post added 01-29-17 at 11:22 AM ----------

Both transceivers have been updated to the latest FW, the V6 is ver. 2.1.001, the V6ii is ver. 1.1.006. I have a Pentax AF540 but never intended to use it with the Cactus system, which is why I have four of the RF60 flashes. So I did fiddle with the AF540 for a bit but it seemed more trouble than it was worth for this initial trouble-shooting phase. HOWEVER, I did throw an RF60 on the V6 in RX mode, then tried using the V6ii in TX to fire it. Nothing. Strangely enough, when I switched roles (RF60 on V6ii as receiver, V6 as transmitter), everything on the RF60 worked perfectly- power settings, zoom, etc. With the way these are acting I thought maybe I'd mixed the two units up and mistook the V6 for V6ii, but the model numbers are both clearly marked appropriately on the underside. (And of course the different functionality of the V6ii is readily apparent.) Weird, huh?

Class A or Cactus, I'm looking for advice on the V6ii and RF60 flashes. I've been using the V6 with four RF60's, and they work great. Just bought a V6ii and can't get it to fire them. The V6ii is FW 1.1.006, and all of the RF60's have been upgraded to FW 204. They continue to work with the V6. For my testing I have the V6ii set to Short Range, TX to flash distance about 3-4 feet, flashes on Slave, group A, channel 1, V6ii set the same. I've also tried Reset on the V6ii. How can I get these to work with the new V6ii transceiver? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

What's so special about the 77 limited?

The question was posed, "Why not the FA50 [for portraits] in APSC format?" These respected contributors have hit the nail on the head. I had the Trio, and this may be blasphemy, but I let the 31 go in favor of the DA 35 Ltd. However, I will never part with the 77! I was shooting portraits for a friend, using both the DA*55, and the 77. While the 55 is no slouch, the 77 blew it away consistently. The 55 just couldn't be counted on to deliver the goods at wide apertures the way the 77 can, and nowadays for portraits I won't even bother with any other lens. And, the 77 is also much more than just for portraits! Other lenses may come and go, but the 77 is a keeper.

Item for Sale
Pentax K20D body; Pentax D-BG4 battery grip

Asking Price
275.00 USD

Item Location
Michigan (United States)

Item Description
I have for sale both a K20D body, and a D-BG4 grip (for K5, K5II, K5IIs).

K20D: This camera has served me well over the years, and is used but not abused. I am the original owner. It is in very good condition with a normal amount of wear. Shutter count is 19,930. It has a Nikon K3 grid screen (with split-image range finder spot) installed. The original screen is included. This type of screen proved essential when trying to focus fast manual lenses, such as the Cosina 55mm f1.2. The top LCD is spotless, the back LCD has the faintest of marks on the lower right corner that you'd have to look pretty hard to see. There are a few dust specks that found their way inside the viewfinder over the years, but they are in no way able to interfere with, or be visibly captured by the sensor. This camera comes in the original box, with all paperwork, CD, and user manual included. All of the cables that originally came with it are also included, as well as the charger and an extra Pentax-brand battery. Also included are the viewfinder and hotshoe covers, and a brand-new, unused strap.
Price: $175, which includes Paypal fees and shipping to the continental United States. SOLD

D-BG4 grip: This battery grip is unused, new in the box. It came as part of a package and since I already had one, I don't really need this one. It includes both the standard lithium battery tray (already mounted inside the grip), and the accessory AA-type battery tray.
Price: $100, including Paypal fees and shipping to the continental U.S.
