Item for Sale
Pentax SMC-M 200mm f4.0

Asking Price
46.00 USD

Item Location
Cherryville, NC (United States)

Item Description
This is a really nice example of the M-series 200/4. I read about it here before I bought it, but since I got it I landed a couple other nice 200s, so it's kind of an extra.
Glass is easily 9/10, with minimal if any dust, no fungus, and no issues with the coatings. The barrel is clean, focusing is smooth, the built-in hood works properly. The blades are clean and snappy. The mount shows minor signs of wear. Includes proper Pentax front and rear caps.
Price includes USPS parcel shipping and PayPal fees.
Please contact me with any questions. I don't have any particular presence here or on FM; like a lot of GAS sufferers, I don't sell much. But my eBay ID is dilligafdon.

...D**n.

Okay, okay. Now that I've recovered, the 50/1.2 you refer to is the SMC-M version, yes?

That’s what “The Survivor” is. Rediscovered it after languishing in a box for only God knows how long. Click on the link in my last post if you’d like to read its story.

Okay, Less than three months ago, I wrote:

My "toe in the pond" was a nice 105. Then I discovered The Survivor in a box upstairs.

Others have opined that this forum is a bad influence, or at least an expen$ive one. Since the 105, I've had an amazing combination of luck and lack of willpower. Joining those two are (in rough chronological order):

SMC 28/3.5
35/3.5
150/4
SMC 50 Macro
135./3.5 (free)
17 Fish-Eye
SMC 200/4

Not meaning to brag; I think this may be an affliction.

I gotta shoot more.

And yes, you buzzards are bad influences.

Pentax M42-to-K-Mount Adaptor STUCK to lens

Absolutely f'n brilliant! I know I'm coming in after the fact and with a slightly different problem, but this coupled with some judiciously applied force saved the day.

I recently scored a Fish-Eye Takumar 17mm that had been "converted" to Canon EF mount. I looked at the photos and (thought I had) determined that it only had an M42 to EF adapter screwed on. The "conversion" had made it a relative bargain, so I took my shot, thinking I'd back the adapter off and use it M42-to-whatever. Well...it was mated up good and proper. As was discussed, it's hard to get purchase on the thin rim of the adapter, so I had decided that adhesive had been used. When I read the tip about using the rear cap in reverse, I took a strap wrench to the lens and to the cap and BINGO! I now have a freed lens and a spare EF adapter.

Many thanks to the contributors!

The color version of these wasn't much. It looks good in B&W, but the yellow markings were kind of neat, so I pared it back to just that.

So riddle me this: Today's digital sensors are very good at what used to be fast film speeds (ISO 400+), are they just not good enough to produce a low-noise image at sub 100 ISO?
Apologies for taking the Takumar Club OT...

These lenses are an affliction, aren't they? Especially with the incredible lens database here on the forum feeding the data-driven excuse for acquisition.

I need to stop looking at this thread, especially on a large screen monitor. Costing me money and explanations to SWMBO.

Funny: I was looking at those images and thinking "if that was film, it would have to be Fuji..." Interesting the family resemblance to digital.

So, do you have the 72mm version or the 67mm version? And, how does it perform? Thanks for the pix.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place; feel free to move it if it is. I have read the reviews of the Vivitar 17mm/3.5 that is reportedly a rebadged Tokina RMC 17. There is a different 17/3.5 out there that I'd like to get some info on. This one appears to predate the "Series 1" lens that's pictured in the database. The thread diameter is 72mm, not 67, and there are "ears" on the front flange that look to serve as minimal hoods. If anyone can direct me to information on this version, or provide feedback/review of it, I'd appreciate it.

Shot of a closed textile mill near home. Like a lot of southern textile facilities, built hard on a creek in the late 1800s, expanded and rebuilt until it closed in the early 2000s.

Whoops. You know, that's probably true. I made the assumption of water due to the bore size.
