FA 20-35 unobtanium ....Not sure what to expect from Promaster 19-35 alternative lens

For that price get it !

Maybe it's good : it's a great score. And it's even better than that ... i mean 48$, makes everything even better :D

Maybe it's average : at least you'll know if you like the range, and you can look for some alternatives*. And when you upgrade you can probably sell this 19-35 for the price you paid it !

It's a Win situation whatever the quality of the lens !

*alternatives like : Sigma 17-35/2.8-4 - Tamron 17-35/2.8-4 - Sigma 12-24 /4-5.6 - Sigma 15-30/3.5-4.5 - Sigma 20-40/2.8 - Tokina 20-35/2.8 - Tokina 20-35/3.5-4.5 - Tokina 12-24 /4

Modern fifties: Samyang vs Sigma vs DA*

The DA* is perfectly FF. Only the hood is a tad long and accentuates a bit the vignetting.

Adobe programs have a profile for it. Works perfectly.

Never used the other two, can't help you about that.

I agree too. Ebay is a very special market when your goal is to do profit or at least end up with a neutral bank balance. Still, it's a great place to buy and sell if you're not in a hurry.

The older version of this lens (A03 - same code name as their 28-200) is already very good. Quite hard to spot, but very usefull ! I heard the Sigma 17-35 can be good too.

I've used the 17-35 for 2 months, and it's really a keeper. And i'm quite hard on what lens i find good.

So far, the article only say new backs and no words on the body. So far it's pretty much nothing really new in the modular aspect compared to previous body.

Wait and see.

It's not a KA lense, hence no aperture setting recorded.

Is it with or without the filter ?

(I find it very strange to buy such lenses and put an unecessary filter in front of it.)

DA*55 Auto Focus Sound?

I don't think low battery increase chances of the SDM dying.

But low battery (1 bar icon or less) seems to slow a bit the SDM motor on my previous k5ii. On the k1 i don't see any differences.

Northrup on Mirrorless

Well, if you think Mirrorless is the future everything, you can jump ship. I mean use watever float your boat.

Pentax stated many times during the last years that the brand is commited to DSLR and won't go into mirrorless in foreseeable future.
Pentax ain't in video either. Photo oriented and will offer basic video capabilities.

If you wan't a great discussion about the direction of Pentax, you can put a hundred milion on the table and get it were you want it to go  (kidding here).

This is like : Sometimes i think i've won the lottery and then i wake up

Considering the DFA*50, it's absolutely unlikely that the 85mm will be small by any means.

Go get the Sigma if you need a 85mm. It's the kind of lens that won't loose much value over time.

DA*55 Auto Focus Sound?
Posted By aurele
Replies: 30

Mine does squeek like in the video. I have it since 11/2012 ( as second hand) and it work flawlessly (no wake up time, no slowing, never any problem).

The Squeek sound is made when focus ring change rotation direction.

To my understanding the DA*55 is less prone to SDM failure. Maybe because the focus group is lighter than in the other lenses ?
