I love seeing what you all have posted in this thread! I've enjoyed using the 14 2.8, and the 50 and 135 recently have caught my gaze. Samyang has really been on their game with the update and release of this year's lenses.

Great kit for APS-C! I might personally change out the FA* 24 for DA 21 but otherwise it's a capable and versatile kit that brings home unique images. :)

These days I'm on FF so I use a 24mm, 85mm, and 200mm lens and I'm pretty happy with the results. I only feel like I have a hole in the 50mm range, and I'm looking for something special in that range.

With wide lenses, zone focus is your friend - estimate the distance using the focus scale. Alternatively, using Live View + Magnification is also helpful for nailing focus.

Great shots, everyone! I love seeing what these Samyang lenses can do!

I've owned both the DA 15 Ltd and the DA 14, and I'd say that if you want to do close focus photos with a bit of interesting bokeh, it's a very good lens for that. If you're buying it for landscapes, there's quite a bit of field curvature that makes those particular shots a bit uneven in terms of resolution. The DA 15 Ltd is very good for landscape shooting and lacks the field curvature. The DA 15 is also legendary in terms of starbursts and flare resistance. It's remarkable even if you don't consider its size.

FA 43 or DA 15. Both had properties that I just loved. Probably leaning more toward the FA 43 than any of the others.

DA* 55 is my favorite lens that I have ever used, and I own a FA43 Ltd.
It depends on what you are looking to do.

The F/FA 135 is also a very good contender for long portraits (headshots and such).

Shoot in black and white? The DA 35/2.4 delivers very well in that regard.

Good day!

I'm selling a good deal of my Pentax kit because I am looking to go Canon full frame. In this thread, I am selling a couple of camera bodies, the Pentax K-01 Yellow and Pentax K20D.

This Pentax K-01 is black with a yellow grip, comes with box and accessories and memory card, and is in great shape. The shutter count is 8766. I am the original owner of the camera and purchased it about a year ago. The camera has a little scuff where the paint has faded on the access door of the camera, but otherwise it's in pristine shape. I really enjoyed using it and it helped me to get out of a creative rut I was in. $240 + shipping

This Pentax K20D has been a workhorse camera for me. I learned most of what i know photographically because of experiments with this camera. It's still in quite good shape. It comes with the box and accessories as well as extra battery and a memory card. The shutter count is 24272. I am not the original owner of the camera. It has a split prism focus screen (not Katzeye) installed, however, when I installed the focus screen, there was one piece of dust that showed up on the viewfinder afterwards and I was never able to get rid of it. It doesn't bother me while shooting, though. SOLD $140 + shipping

Shipping is $10 per camera in the US, and I do ship elsewhere - PM for shipping price for international shipments. I do combine shipping if you purchase more than one item.

Payment methods - I accept Paypal.

Return policy - I want you to be happy with your purchase. Return the item within 7 days if you aren't happy with it.

If you have any questions about the items, please PM me!

Expect to pay $600 or so for a good used copy of the FA 20. You could put a "Wanted" post up in the marketplace - you might find someone willing to sell.

DA 2.8/14 vs Lim 4.0/15

The DA15 has less field curvature than the DA14, so landscapes tend to focus better for having sharpness across the frame.

I didn't notice anything specifically different about flare and ghost control - the DA15 keeps it's contrast better in direct sunlight and the built-in hood is way too convenient. But both of them perform pretty well in situations where flare would be a concern.

Also, the color cast on the DA14 is a bit cooler in my recollection than the DA15. Also, I find the DA15 renders colors more vibrantly than the DA14.

Yes. If you want to take close pictures of stuff with a WA, go with the 14/2.8. If you want super good landscapes with minimal distortion (and really nice contrast), the DA15 is your baby. Having owned both, I'd go with the DA15 in most situations.

Yep, that's bokeh fringing and common on lenses. It clears up in the OOF as you stop down to f4.
Great shot of the birthday candle smoke, that's a keeper!

I love the F 135/2.8 so much I bought it twice - same formula as A 135. It is magic for portraits in the 6-15 ft range at f2.8-5.6. Especially good in low light.

DA 40 Limited lens wobble

Wobble is more noticeable if you keep a UV filter on the lens. I owned the DA70 at three different points, and two of those times, the barrel had a wobble. DIdn't affect performance, but it was moreso on the one that had been stored with the filter on the lens. My DA40 also had a slight wobble, DA21 and DA15 were solid. All of them made me happy in terms of IQ, though, no decentering issues.

ED = Extra Low Dispersion - features some elements to manage chromatic aberrations
AL = Aspherical Lens - one or more elements have an aspherical surface to reduce spherical aberrations wide open
IF = Internal Focusing - the front element does not extend from the body when focusing
DC = Digital Crop - A Sigma term, it means that the image circle covers the APS-C sensor size and was designed for the sensors of digital cameras

I agree, but I think Av mode won't let you shoot at anything other than wide open on a K or M lens unmodified. On a K-01, unless it's really dark a bright VF is less needed because of the auto gain feature on the display, and thus M42 lenses (at least presets and Takumars anyways) give you a WYSIWYG approach.

It's also a good opportunity to use a M42 lens in auto mode since the display features auto gain for Av mode.
A series lenses are nice, though, if you want to use shutter priority.

That's what TAv is used for. You can run TAv by switching into M mode and setting ISO to Auto. Then you can set the shutter and aperture settings to what you want them to go to.

Have fun with your K-01!
