All cameras to have USB-C charger by 2024

A couple of items to add. The UK government has said that it will not follow the EU ruling, no surprise there.
And my personal experience of USB vs Lightning is that I constantly have to replace cables for the one Apple device we have - an IPOD.
I have only replaced the many micro-USB when there has been a mechanical failure in the cable, not the connector.

The WiFi Commander is intended as a remote control rather than for bulk transfer.
I know some people are unhappy with this approach but I have always removed the SD card from
the camera and inserted it in a reader to make a direct transfer. Sometimes it has been a built-in
reader (like my laptop) but most often a reader permanently attached to a USB port on my desktop.
Currently USB3 is fast and reliable (famous last words!)
I have tried WiFi Commander as a remote control and it is reasonable but to go back to the original post
your router will not be involved. Your PC can either communicate with the router or the camera but not both
at the same time. And you will need software on the PC (or phone) that can control the camera via the
WiFi link, it will not appear on the PC as a drive.

Problem with Samyang 135mm f/2.0 on K-1ii

Every lens I have which has an A setting requires a button to be pressed before the aperture ring will turn to that point.
Is there something similar on the Samyang? sometimes it's quite a way round the aperture ring.

Not quite what you're looking for but I made a display for my company's lobby with an ordinary TV which had a USB slot and could be programmed to show a slide show of images on a memory stick.
As I recall it was a 24 inch TV and had the advantage you could watch a program if you got bored with the pictures.

Would it be possible to run an XP virtual machine under Windows 10 that could then host Remote Assistant?
I did this on Windows 7 to run an old CAD package and retrieve some drawings.
It was a fiddly process and probably more so on Win 10.

Given how old the K10d is and indeed Remote Assistant any solution is bound to be fiddly.

Understanding Ricoh/Pentax strategy announcement

Another thank you for this post.
When I was last involved in the motor industry 25 years ago we had the capability to build a car to exact customer specs and put it on the dealer's lot in 5 days from the order.
Most of the time was taken in transporting the car from the plant to the dealer. The manufacturer chose not to use this capability because they were used to a build-to-plan
model - which worked then. The risk is that the market doesn't follow your plan. I think this is a bold move by Ricoh in a volatile market where it's easy to be left with product in stock
which doesn't sell.
I suspect they will follow a hybrid model of short runs of "standard" models to suit some markets together with offering "custom" models around the world, air freight for a camera is cheap and easy.
It may well be that in the US and Europe we will have the best of both worlds.

istD problems with cards

This post reminds me of two things.
First, I should get my *istD out more often, older and simpler but still very capable.
Secondly, boy am I glad Pentax switched to SD cards. I too have much experience with these sort of
connectors on IT equipment and they are easily damaged with bent pins or blocked sockets.
Of course SD cards have their problems but I haven't had any mechanical issues over many years now.

Interesting video. I wonder if he takes more than one camera to each session.
At one time I carried a Pentax for stills and a Sony for video - the user interfaces were so different it was difficult to switch back and forth as needs arose.

After a lifetime in IT I'm also keen to keep up to date but there's always a moment of uncertainty as you switch on with the menu button pressed.
I've just enjoyed it when upgrading a new-to-me K3 with a fully charged battery and reading the instructions twice as it's been a while.
Will this be the time the previously perfect battery fails? Did I use a Pentax battery or a copy? Will there be a card failure?
And then the moment of relief when COMPLETE appears.

I have a K-S2 and a K5iiS

I would replace the K-S2 with the K-70 as the current upgrade I could afford.
Tried a KP and didn't find it comfortable for me to handle.
K3iii is functionally good but lack of flippy screen means it wouldn't replace the K-S2
and it's too costly to replace the K5iiS

I have a KS-2 and a K5iiS which get used regularly. I mostly take pictures at motorsport events when have one with a long lens and one with a short lens enables me to switch quickly as I move from track side to pits and back. I have tried swapping lenses in the past and it's just a PITA. I also have a K-01 which I used to use as a travel camera although my wife's P'n'S is now so capable that those days are passing. Oh yes and an *istD which I got for next to nothing to see what Pentax's first digital was like.

As far as the 110 goes I was only thinking of the lenses and flash which I have and which are unique to the 110 range.

I will try to get to the video in the next couple of days.

I have an Auto 110 Super, hasn't been used in quite a while but I can certainly video it.
I realise your focus is on the bodies but I can put some of the unique accessories and lenses with it if you wish.

Well, I just tried a CF card in my reader (only 1Gb) and it behaved fine, same Win 10 build as yours.
Not a Hama reader but a 7 day shop proprietary one with no special drivers.
Only use the CF input when I drag out my istD so it doesn't get a lot of use.

Recommend lens for classic & hotrod cars

I've covered many of these shows and found that the major problem in getting pictures of cars is that other people get in the way.
I used a Sigma 10-20 for years and then upgraded to a Sigma 8-16. I have rarely been embarrassed by this choice at a show.
So my advice would be to take the Tamron 10-24 and crop if you need to - with a K3 iii that's not a problem.
But if you can't move away to get a clear shot there's no substitute.

Just a thought for the OP. IN this case COVID may be your friend?
There is some interest in drag racing outside the US in Europe and Australia but with travel restrictions the normal journalists haven't been able to visit the US.
You may find that a magazine or web site in those territories would commission you to cover an NHRA event and provide suitable paperwork to persuade the NHRA to allow you trackside.

+1 to that. As an old mainframe guy it still amazes me that PCs with as much complex software installed do usually work.
It's not perfect but doesn't need a a software support team like the good old days.
What ticks me off is the Win 10 habit of launching into a major update at just the wrong time.
As the in-house support team I find this always happens when the "most important user" is doing something urgent.

Oh boy, not an easy gig.
In a similar situation I used two cameras as you suggest. One cover the whole stage, this is the minimum which will show all the performers. Anything more is a "nice to have" in this situation.
So I would use the K70 for this, probably the best video of what you have available, and a lens which allows you to record the whole stage. This might be your 50-135 but depending on the position you may have a prime that is more suitable.
I would spend time making sure this is as good as it can be and in a place where it can't be knocked or shaken.
Not sure if the K-S2 or the K-3 is better for your detail camera but a zoom lens will give you more flexibility although my experience is that the Pentax video software isn't good at handling too much zoom action while shooting.
I have used a Zoom H1 for audio to link with my video and it is very capable.
I have always used Sony software and there is a 30 day free trial at Video editor free download

Focal reducer for MFT

Conventional wisdom is that a focal reducer has an adverse effect on image quality.
Is there a reasonably priced wide angle in native MFT format which would be as cheap as a "good" reducer?
Or close enough that improved image quality would bridge the gap.
