Depends how much you paid for the whole kit and kaboodle and what lenses and other gear are included. Probably you made a fine decision.
Yes, the K-30-->K-70 series can fail but failure is irregular and not very predictable. My Interweb advice--for what it's worth!--is to use it heavily as a learning tool. If it continues to work--and it probably will--fine. For example, a K-50 (internally the same as a K-30) that I gave to a friend is now about 7 or 8 years old and working fine. He uses it as a 2nd body now and has moved on to a K1-II for his main body. Anyway, the K-30/K-50 system is very capable. Use the K-30 and only get a new used body (K-5ii on up) if it should fail or you're ready to move on to some extra features that beginners probably won't need in any case. The wonderful thing about Pentaxes is that the lens collection will work on newer bodies and so you preserve whatever value is there.

I have a Huawei P30 Pro. The cameras on it really are simply amazing for the purposes biz points out. They are simply not very amazing at all for landscape/nature...in Newfoundland, anyway. Camera system just doesn't scale to the environment. That said, for quick simple web stuff I usually just use my Huawei now as biz hypothesizes many others do as well.

Nice. I often use a 50mm for multiple exposure panos. Never tried the 28mm. Maybe will as I really don't use my 28mm lens very much.

1--go to wrench menus #1. Subitem 2 there is "Date adjustment. Access it and there is a 12/24 adjustment in the same line but after the m-d-y format setting.
2--don't know for sure but I think what you are looking for is the C menu, screen #4 subitem #24.
3--the green button settings are shown in the still camera settings, screen 5, "Button Customization", subitem "E-Dial Programming". Don't think it is set there so much as described. Never fiddled at that level.

Those gloves might work well for photography as well as for other kinds of shooting. I'm actually intrigued. $65 Cdn seems a bit steep, though.

Nice. Old iron is great sometimes.
BTW: There is a forum for rusty iron shots somewhere. I don't really follow it, but I've seen it from time to time.

Agreed. I really can't see any diffs from Silkypix Pro 10 at the initial frame processing stage. But the interface reminds me of old Windows 3.1 or Win95 interfaces.
Beautiful detail on the pic you provided here.

There IS a bit--well perhaps more than a bit --of a steep learning curve with Silkypix and the Japanglish help files can be hard to follow at first until you get your mind into their groove. But it is quite powerful. And the menus follow a great workflow visually on the page (basically work top to bottom opening submenus covering all PP aspects--your "hiding"--either accepting what's there or tweaking it). But I found it took me a while to to actually see the elegant ideas behind that workflow organization. I pretty much use Silkypix (10 Pro some $$$) all the time for all PP now as I have no wish to subscribe to Adobe in perpetuity.
That said, rawtherapee at least some time ago was already good when I tried it (another steep learning curve, however, plus the help--and there is lots of it--spread around the internet is not necessarily well organized--think gimp help) for pixelshift. And the price is right, certainly. DCU handles it. It acts like a primitive version of Silkypix as that is what it actually is, I think. Lightroom has it but I often read complaints. Don't know how valid they are. There are others but DCU, Silkypix, rawtherapee, and Lightroom are the most talked about in actual use in my observation.

Since Pentax is being marketed less and less to the casual user and more to actual users, there is a much reduced need for a cheap kit lens imo. I gave mine away years ago as it just wasn't very good.
With cell cameras being the way they are now (I have a Huawei P30 Pro which is ridiculously good for instant casual shooting), the need for a casual camera/kit lens is quickly approaching zero for all brands.

Barely out of babyhood at that count. K-3 shutter has a tested life of 200K.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
PLB (Battery/unit guaranteed to Dec 2023) Asking Price
150.00 CAD Item Location
St. John's (Canada) Item Description
[NOTE: A bit of a weird item to offer here, maybe, but some months ago I thought I had lost this unit and so bought another. Somepentaxian else who goes backcountry/boating may benefit from a cheap deal as these satellite units tend to be more pricey than cell-based units.]
This is a satellite based unit and so good for backcountry or boating away from cell service (which in Newfoundland is most everywhere away from towns!). It also emits a radio signal for local services to use on ground. The unit and battery are guaranteed through December 2023 so there is a goodly amount of use left and the battery can be dealer-serviced/replaced (there are scores around Canada/world). It is registered in Canada but can be used anywhere in the world (though the Canadian Service is always the first point of contact since it is registered there, but registered contacts/user location is global). Unit has a self test function. Passed today.
Unit does not float but comes with a floating case. No packaging. Manual is online.

KP large grip at shipping cost + a coffee. Asking Price
4.00 CAD Item Location
St. John's (Canada) Item Description
I have a 2nd large grip for the XP which I don't need (came with the battery grip after I had all 3 with my original purchase). Offered it to a guy in Australia for shipping, but that's long and expensive from here and it won't work, I guess. But since I dug it out, might as well let someone benefit. I will send it to someone--US/Canada would be cheapest/quickest--for shipping plus 4 bucks Cdn (for a cup of coffee for my efforts). A small bubble envelop is 1.24 Cdn. I have an extra large one. Don't know how long a bubblepak takes to get from Newfoundland to Australia or how much it costs, but if you want me to check it out, I'd send it at shipping cost if you want. Added: Parcel post "surface" looks cheap but would likely take forever, I suppose. Can check on other rates, if you want.

SMC Pentax 28 FA AL is not my most used lens by any means, but it is very sharp and can often be picked up fairly cheaply.

The exif reads "PENTAX PENTAX K-5 II 1/200s ƒ/6.3000001907349 ISO800 8mm" so probably the Sigma 8-16. Or maybe the Samyang 8mm prime.
Whichever it is, it is obvious this photog looks for correct lenses paired with a great Pentax body. Lenses are very often the limiting factor over bodies. This is a good example.

My standard hiking/boating kit is a 16-85 and a 55-300PLM using a KP (also have a K-70 body). I own a 17-50 f2.8 Sigma, but I just cannot warm to how my copy renders landscapes here. I use it for special situations indoors and about town/docks esp. at night where the extra f-stops are helpful. (Plus it really does rain a lot here!) OTOH, my copy of the 16-85 just plain renders my landscape scenes beautifully. One issue with the 16-85 (as well as the 55-300PLM) where I shoot is that Newfoundland is often a very dark environment even during daylight hours what with thick cloud layers and, for much of the year, a low sun angle even at noon. Plus much of the terrain is under dense forest cover. With a KP, this is simply not a problem, however. In fact having a KP is one of the reasons to rely so heavily on this pair of lenses. They really work with each other well. In this regard, my old K-50 (now gone to a friend along with kit lens and an old screw drive SMC 50-300) could get pushed severely by having to use high ISO many days.
I also often put my 40mm Ltd. in a small sock and carry it in a pocket. Adds no weight, really, and my copy really does render golden hour scenes beautifully.
Last but not least, if I think there will be macro shots, I do carry a 100mm WR macro, but in such cases we are talking of more dedicated photo expeditions, not hiking/sailing with a camera along.
Have some other lenses--the DA70 is a new acquisition I am starting to really like--but none in general, everyday use.

You are one of the VERY few I've ever seen criticize the KP for lacking features!
Re. battery, if you really are taking that many thousands of pictures, a battery grip with the large battery is easily obtained to supplement.

The KP is incredibly customizable both in hardware and software. Pretty much in a class of its own on this dimension.
