I wish they would take a note out of Cactus's book and just bundle all the firmware for the different OEMs in one unit. But then again, they probably stand to lose a lot of money that way. Cactus as a company doesn't look too financially healthy right now after the RQ250 failure last year.

I'm surprised. Do the engineers on this app really not understand such a common design pattern as lazy loading?

DFA* 50mm f1.4 repair not offered by Precision Camera

Believe it or not, it actually still works just fine. It's truly just the shell that needs replaced. If the the top barrel piece was metal instead of plastic, the elements probably would have shattered.

Same as my K1. They actually do make fairly durable products.

and I hope we do get this straightened out for the sake of the rest of the customers here in the US who are one drop away from being SoL at the moment, which is inexcusable.

I thought that's what I was doing when I asked them the first time and explained the situation.

I'm just disappointed I have to annoy them with emails to get their operation together.

I'm in the US. I dropped my K1 attached with this lens recently and the top plastic ring directly above the focus ring cracked all the way to the top of the lens. No lens elements were harmed, thankfully, but it's now exposed. After realizing the flagship prime lens of this company wasn't listed in the dropdown on Precision Camera's website, I was redirecfted to Ricoh's contact page. After emailing them explaining that repair of this 9mo old $1200 lens isn't listen on their official repair vendor's options and asking what my options were, I was told:

QuoteQuote:

I am sorry you are having problems. Below is the link to the one authorized repair center in the US. The number is their direct number.

Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation - Service & Repair

860-272-2100

Thank you for being a valued Ricoh Imaging customer.

Ok, so I thought I'd try calling Precision Camera directly and asking maybe they haven't updated their site yet?

"Yeah. We so don't offer repair on that lens unfortunately."
"...uhhh I'm surprised. This lens came out only 9 months ago from the company you're which the only authorized repair center. Does someone else do repairs on this then then?"
"Why don't you try contacting Ricoh Pentax. Would you like their contact info?"
"..."

So I guess we're playing pass-the-buck. And this is just for a non-warranty repair. I don't even know what would happen if the SDM or Aperture diaphragm failed within warranty.

Has anyone had to have one of these repaired yet? Am I unreasonable thinking repair of this lens should be offered by their official (and only) US authorized repair center?

Oh yeah she's fine. All things considered. This kit has suffered a lot of drops and given me no problems. This time was just squarely on its head with all its weight.

The pentaprism is also shattered. AF still seems to work fine, though.

Insurance... now that's something I should have looked into a long timr ago!

Fo you think at this point I should just have the shutter replaced as well while they have it? I've already had the camera over 2 years and use it pretty regularly.

So a few weeks ago I dropped my K1 right on its head onto solid concrete. A large shard out of the shell and a cracked pentaprism are all the damage i've found. Still works but I obviously need to get this repaired.

If you're in the US, PrecisionCamera is the only official repair service for Pentax. I havent had a problem in the past. I know they charge a flat fee which used to be $200 the last time I used them, but has since increased to $350. Ugh.

Does anyone know offhand if they do body repairs? A large piece would have to be replaced entirely, and they don't seem to respond to questions until you actually pay them and send them your gear.

Tokina is using their own lens coatings. That's the one things lens manufacturers don't share with each other without you knowing it.

Has a real full-frame mirrorless been rumored anywhere else? I saw the hubrid viewfinder patent which seemed close, but nothing that specific. What do you know!

Not a chance in hell that first sensor comes packaged in anything resembling affordable. Looks like a new sensor for their cinema line to compete with Red. Maybe an FS9?

I ordered mine Tueaday, got here Wednesday =)

I can safely say that Godox is the way forward and Cactus unfortunately lost the plot this summer.

And the ones on Amazon being sold directly from Godox seem to have their stock number decreasing, so maybe they have them. I dont think they can sell them non pre-order unless Amazon has them on hand.

It would have sold like hotcakes if it was a 400w strobe. People buy their strobes how Americans buy their sports cars: hp per dollar.

Their pricepoint was too high for the wattage they offered. All the compactness and add-ons mean nothing if your competitors can offer a similar product for cheaper. It's a shame because I genuinely liked their product, but $525 (at the 25%-off introductory price, mind you) for a 250w strobe was too much no matter which you sliced it. And they probably knew it as soon as their numbers came back from accounting.

Godox AD200 for Pentax by June?

The price might not be as competitive for what for what is a fairly similar product, but this was new ground for Cactus so I'm not surprised their R&D costs were probably much higher and the price was needed in that respect.

Definitely interested in the process. Does Tee Spring charge the campaign manager extra to even offer a premium as an option? I had figured since these were all made-to-order it wouldn't cost you extra.

Also interested in a premium T for our premium camera brand [emoji108]. I work in the basic-wear industry, and that stuff goes a long way with association with quality lot if even subconsciously.

Hopefully that means they come out faster. All things told, 1 year R&D to retail is pretty good. I'll keep an eye out for the wide angle prime. Looking for that 35 [emoji102]

It was the K1 2016 shirt mentioned earlier with the LED under a microscope look. The first time was definitely a more premium shirt that was softer cotton and the blank was other than Hanes. This time, not so much.

Do we have any idea how many of these were sold yet? The last 4 digits of my serial place my lens it in the 2000 range, and I"m wondering where the latest is at. Imagine if Ricoh sells 4000-5000 copies at 1200 = $4.8m to $6m in revenue. Not bad for them.

So I received my 2016 contest shirt in athe mail a few days ago. I remember Tee Spring offering a much more premium cotton shirt that was silk-screened the first time around (ie. 2 years ago) but I was surprised it was a freakin Hanes blank this time around. Time to bust out the bandaids.

Adam, does Tee Spring give you an option to offer a more premium option when setting up this campaigns? Because I'm honestly turned off by buying another $25 shirt that's going to fall apart in about 5 washes.

We're seeinf the exact same thing with the affordable sports car market with companies like Toyota partnering with Subaru and BMW to design the drivetrain for their cars. These things have massive development costs and shrinking markets. Seems like the way forward in the future as minimum expectations ($$$) increase.

I just shot a bridal shower today using the new lens. By far the most performant lens I've ever used. All my previous lenses were manual focus only and it's been amazing seeing such high IQ while locking on every time. Will completely change my approach to shooting events in the future.

Who else here has already done professional work with it?
