Will this mean even less third party lenses for Pentax?

I'm wondering if the move to mirrorless by most camera manufacturers will leave Pentax even further out in the wilderness as new lenses get developed by third party manufacturers. I know that they are already kind of frozen out, but I think it will be even harder since the designs will be for mirrorless, and that probably will even make it more difficult to rebrand lenses.

OK, I suspected it wasn't there in the menu. It is for the K3, but it looks like I just have to have the remote shutter depressed as long as I want the exposure for - there's no menu option to press once to open and once again to close.

I wonder if they haven't made the formal announcement yet about the new flagship because they got pummeled for the fixed LCD and are back redesigning it so that everybody is satisfied? (OK, I'm sure some of you won't find any humor in that...)

So, called Phototronic.biz and they seem like a pretty decent place. I took the lens out yesterday and it worked great...so sharp and no issues. The guy I spoke to at Phototronic.biz just said to put it on F16 with a shutter speed of 1000 and see if there are any exposure issues, namely, that it stops down properly. It worked fine, no issues - he said if it doesn't show up under these conditions then it's fine and there's no reason to do anything further. So, it appears to be in good shape. It's really a hell of a lens!

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi - There doesn't seem to be a place for K20D questions any more (I still use it for some reason). Unlike my K3, I can't seem to find a setting for when I'm in bulb mode so that I can press the shutter once to open it and a second time to close it. Are there any K20D users who know if that is available on the camera?

Thanks

I'm going to quote myself on this one "And, please no suggestions that I do it - I might as well just throw out the lens before I start because that's the condition it will wind up in."

I expect that that's the case, but it's in really good shape, took it out last night and it produces really nice images, so part of me feels like I'd like to preserve a really nice piece of glass.....that's a judgement call I realize....but of course, I might not need to do this since it's very close to being snappy, just not as snappy as the best ones I have.

Hi folks,

Just picked up a Vivitar Series 1 (Komine) 28-90mm F2.8-3.5 Lens Reviews - Vivitar Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

It's in great shape but I'd like the aperture blades to be snappy (they're pretty decent, not really slow, just not quite snap-to-it snappy). I contacted Eric, but he said he can't clean and re-oil the blades. Wondering if there is someone else out there who does this kind of thing who's reliable and is in the Eric price-range, (And, please no suggestions that I do it - I might as well just throw out the lens before I start because that's the condition it will wind up in.)

Thanks!

Steve

Wonder if much more of the frame will covered with AF points rather than clustering them in the center.

I would think an articulating or flippy screen is tablestakes for any flagship at this point. It’s hard to imagine one without it would have broad appeal. It almost seems like selling a car without Apple CarPlay in 2020.

You mean when more and more surprisingly affordable full frame sensor cams are coming out, Pentax is going to price an APS-C cam higher? Hard to imagine that that's a good strategy to increase market share.

Exactly....it's 2020 and it's a competitive disadvantage to not to have it, and limiting too. I've gotten into positions like this on the street and I would love to not have to get the angles I want. It would seriously increase creative options.

Here's why I think a movable screen is very important. If you want to take shots from really unusual frames of reference to try to create images with very novel perspectives, such as right from the ground in a way that exaggerates things so they look different than how we normally see them, it is extremely hard to do so without lying on the ground. A movable screen would dramatically simplify it. So, if it's not there, it's a really big disappointment on what appears to be an otherwise very promising camera (at least from the little we saw this morning). It's just hard for me to imagine that in 2020 you could have a flagship camera without one.

Do you really think at this point that that's the case?

Looks promising but would like more details. How much of the screen is covered with AF points? And, if no tilting LCD, let alone no touch screen focus, that’s a biiiiiig miss for me. It loses a lot of flexibility without it.

But, is it a niche that is large enough to sustain the brand? It has to be sufficiently profitable, or at least there has to be a plan where it appears it will be, for a large, publicly traded corporation to continue to invest in it (or even maintain it).

Wondering if $1500+ pushes the price too high - esp as competitors are trying to come out with low priced full frame cams and that the market is really tough now with the overall market shrinking.

I think that the new cam will offer some interesting stuff - at least from the speculation - definitely assume it will have the 5-axis IS, snappier, more accurate AF-C, including the addition of many more AF sensors covering much more of the frame (hopefully), and the larger VF sounds great. But, I really want a movable rear screen to help with very low perspective shots, which are a bitch to get when the screen is fixed. But, the images we've seen make it appear as if the cam has a fixed lcd on the back - which seems like a shocking miss in 2020. Who here thinks that that's either not an accurate representation or Pentax has innovated something that will surprise us and we'll get a tilt screen that is so flush that it looks like it's fixed? (Even better if it has touch focus - but I'm not holding my breath on that one.)

I can’t imagine that in 2019 a flagship camera would be put out with a fixed screen. I think the added flexibility is just expected these days. If you want to really take shots from novel, creative perspectives, a fixed screen is a pita.
