After reviewing possible alternatives I am not clear which way to go...
Currently I have several Speedlights, a small Cactus Softbox and some Umbrellas - and in case accesss to a heavy Bowens System with 2 500WS heads (no HSS/TTL).
- One big advantage of bare flash bulbs (like studio strobe or RQ250) is the better light distribtion in big soft boxes (I do not have yet)
- On location the 60x60 SB is not too bad . the easiest and geapest way for more power would be a bracket that can fix 2 speedlights inside
- If I realy extend to a big SB for Studio use the bowens would do the job - I do not need HSS indoor
- many of the Akku-Alternatives are expensive, heavy or need another sender backpacked on the Cactus to enable Pentax HSS.

I think I will do some testing with a Bowens Studio-Flash and Pentax/Nikon Speedlights in a 60x90 Softbox to get a feeling for the needs before Photokina starts

I backed for a SuperEarlyBird with a Bowens-S-Mount and hope they will find enough backes.

I am using Cactus since they brought out the 1st V6 and meanwhile use V6II and RF60, It is a great system and the firmware support after purchasing was good so far - I realy can recommand to use that system.... and spend some bucks in the Kickstarter Campane.

are you happy with switching to FF?

Hello

I got my K1 app. 2 years ago...coming from a K3 & K01(which are still in use).

Even having a lot of lenses at that time I underestimated the effort for new lenses.

I started with a Tamron 28-75/2,8 and was very unsatisfied with - changing to a DFA24-70/2,8. For ocasional purpose (weight/range) I added meanwhile a Sigma UCIII 28-105 and a Tamron 24-135.

On the wide side DA12-24 and DA10-17 have the advantage that they cover FF with app. the same perspective as in Crop (> 16mm) ..... but I could not resist a Tamron 14/2,8 (AF) and a Fisheye-Takumar 17/4.

On the long side I still use the DA55-300WR on the K1 often because it is small and light - even it does not cover FF at all focal lengths. The weight of the long DFAs was much too high. My first compromise was a Sigma 100-300/4 (including 1,4 Converter) and later I added a DA200.

On the fast side the DA*55 works well on the K1 (as long as you do not use the original lens hood). The Sigma 30/1,4 and 24/1,8 were replaced by a 35Art and the Samyang 85 was replaces by a Sigma 85/1,4.

But I do not regret the change to FF.

Hello

Just in case you need some replacemets (like I needed) : The lens hood and the front ring (part with filer thread) are identical with the Tamron 24-70 G1 parts, but 1/2...1/3 of the price (in Germany at least)

Hello

I have the 135Macro, 165/2,8 and the 200/4 - in most cases I take the 165 with me and leave the others at home. For both non-Macros you should look an extension Ring I - minimum distance of the lens ist often too short.

The only way for these cameras is the use of LS-Lenses or permanent (Halogen/LED) light instead of flash light

From my experience a distance of 3 stops between ambient and flash light is enough to be ok even with 1/30 of a second for most subjects

"Cactus help": I did too

HSS on old V6 - in my view over-evaluated. I have 2V6II, 2V6 and 2RF60 - makes 3 units that are HSS capable - but I never had a need for more than 2 HSS- devices. HSS always means lots of ambient light - most of the time 1 flash unit is best if you don't wand to destroy the ambient moode.

Hello

I use a G3-100mm for 6x7 and a G3-50mm for the K1.
For the use on K1 the focal length of the 67 is too long and the sweet spot too big - same situation is the G3-50mm on a Crop-Pentax.

A 53mm on the Q will be much worst - It is on of the sensless Q-adaptations....like the 35mm-6x7-Fisheye ;)

I talked about TTL .... HSS is working fine with the RF60 - that update was the reason to purchase my 1st V6II.
Meanwhile I got a 2nd V6II - waiting for the Pentax-TTL-Update.

Curently I enjoy the option that the old Pentax flashes now can be zoom-controled

btw:I enjoyed my combination possibility during the Isle of Man TT recently - only back side is that files do not tellyou whether you used the TC or not.

Hello

As a long Tele I am using a SIgma 100-300/4 on my K1 ...and if that is not long enough I use a sigma 1,4 TC.
What I really like on the 100-300 is the fast AF (mechanical) and quuality/weight of that combinations is quite good.

To my questiod: Has anyybody compared that to the lenses mentioned in the thread title?

A combination of Cactus LV5 and V5 or V6 would work for motion on the K1/K3 or in a dark environment a conination of Blub mode and flash triger might be even better (delay ~0)

Hello

Recently I was able to find a used K-Lensbaby 3G with macro, wide angle and telephoto adapters - and the good thing is that all these adaptes fit the 100mm LB for my 6x7 too.

Today I got my CineStill films from a Indigogo/Kickstarter project I supported 1 1/2 years ago and used the K-LB to take some simple product shots:

Hopefully there will be more pictures soon

Hello

I recently was able to get a used Lensbaby 3G for my K1 - in a set with macro, wide angle and tele photo lens. I already had a 3G (that the one with the 3 thread pins for fine adjustements), bit using the 50mm on the K1 with LV, Tilt Screen and Focus Peeking is a perfect combination.

Are you aware that there is a specific Lens-Club for Lensbaby-pictures?

HSS on Cheap ? and Cactus V6 ?

Hello

I am using Pentax flashes & Cactus V6i/ii in combination with RF60.

1st - already mentioned HSS is taking away a lot of the flah power - the remaining rst is suitable up to e.g. 1/500 but on even shorter exposure times is is only siutable for very small flash/Object distances.

The Cactus V6II with the RF60 flashes is working HSS - but without any automazation - right exposure is purely try & error. (but for soem setups I like it anyway)

Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 on the K1?

Hello

I have the Rokinon now for several years and it replaced my M85/2 because ist was much sharper (on the K7 that time) - and allways was sad that I gave away my SMC-Takumar 85/1,8 when I changed to K 2002.
I used the Rokinon on K7, K01, K3 and K1- and beside the MF I was always happy with the results - but yesterday I coudn't resist a Sigma 85/1,4 - so I will give it away now. Sharpness wide open seeems to be very similar for both lens. The only thing I will miss on the Sigma is the aparture ring for MX/ME analog.

I found another negative effect: For short exposure times the rolling shutter effect is much worst than using mechanical shutter.

Take pictures out of the sinde window of d driving vehicle and look to vertical elements like lamp posts:
Here is a link toa german forum showing some picture examples: K1: Rolling Shutter

31 limited, Sigma 35 1.4 or 24-70 for the first lens on K-1

Hello

Goming back to the initial Question: If you liked 35 mm on Crop you should look for e.g. 43mm on FF and leave out the zoom (which you did not use on crop if I understood right)

I have the 35/1,4 Art and the DFA24-70 beside others.
I thought about the FA31 but I think the newer design and I licke th Dock-option for AF-Adjustment. I love 35mm and if I have to deside for one focal lengt I would always choose 35mm. The DFA24-70 is a great but bulky lens - but I can recommand it too.
