Why Pentax SHOULD make a full frame, an answer to the link on homepage

"hahaha... valid point. by the time Pentax have a FF, those old glasses are really "too old" (designed for film). sad, but true.

Read more at: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/169-pentax-full-frame/272489-why-pentax-s...#ixzz3M8eVfP26"

Explain how a lens becomes "too old"? As long as the lens can be mounted and is functional it is still useable. Some people are still using Pentax (Takumar) glass that was manufactured during the 1960's and before.

Obviously all the Autofocus fans will want to buy new Pentax glass anyway. Allowing for using vintage glass has not hurt Nikon any. Some 1959 Nikon F cameras and lenses are still in use. And many Nikon users use vintage "film" lenses on their digital cameras. "Film" lenses cover both "FX"/FF and "DX" /CF sensors as well as film anyway. Pentax FA lenses are basically "digital" versions of K(F) lenses.

That FA 31mm lens looks like a great one. I could use it on both my Pentax DSLRs and older Pentax film SLRs, and hopefully on any future Full Frame camera.

Yes, but I still would have to buy the body. And a lot of Pentax users have tons of old film glass not just me. Those that want or need AF will buy new lenses probably or hunt for the use pricey F / FA ones. As someone else pointed out used glass has not stopped Nikon from making many FF (FX) cameras as well as new FX lenses.

I do see your point, did not think in that direction, I'm thinking as a advanced amateur / hobbyist photographer not a marketing executive. I want the best I can afford. I can't afford a $8k Pentax medium camera (plus the glass). For that I have to go to 4x5" sheet film as again I already have the cameras and lenses. A side note, I used to own a Pentax 6x7 camera until it died.

I might still buy more new glass to refine my collection. The M42, K and K(M) lenses are not fun or convenient to use on a digital camera (from a metering stand point as I rarely use AF anyway).

A bit long, but I agree with you. A Ricoh Pentax FF, say a "K-3" with a 36MP ~23.5x35.5mm Sensor ASAP. And with the old K(K) / K(M) aperture ring body lever/flange back. I have a bunch of Pentax / Takumar "film" camera glass that I use all the time on my three digital APS-C Pentax digital bodies as well as my three Pentax film bodies. Out of 22+ Pentax branded lenses I only have three DA or DA* ones. I'm all set for FF with K(K), K(M), K(A), and M42 mount lenses. Wish I could find some affordable F & FA lenses. I find the metering with my K(K) & K(M) lenses gets very confusing on the digital cameras.

Many of my beginner hobbyist friends are buying FF Canon 5DmkIII and Nikon D810 cameras. These are not pro photographers. Pentax needs to get with it. I've been using Pentax since 1978.

That likely was my earlier join date. Don't really remember. That date actually was showing before Adam consolidated the accounts. Or I used Doctor Who's TARDIS! :)

I also may have used my email address that you use on here as a username as well. Rather dumb idea. I'm not posting that openly, so perhaps you can check and put everything -- if there was a third name -- under the rather cool "Pentax-K" that I am currently using. Thanks.

Thanks for the warning. Now you have me worried. I too have a K-20D and it too has a black line along the very left edge of the frame (right edge of sensor). I have thought of having it repaired if the problem extends to where I can't crop it out. But after reading your horror story I think I will need either a brick and mortar repair shop or send the camera to LifePixel to be converted to a second IR camera (after having them replace the sensor as well). That seems to be a defect in that model. Perhaps Pentax should take responsibility for it. Grrrrrr!

Hi, I am actually not totally new here but I forgot my log-in information and had to reset everything. I seem to have registered under more than one name in the past.

I have been a Pentax user since before actually buying my first camera in 1978-79 (I forget). I used the college's Spotmatics and then K1000's. I've owned a large number of Pentax cameras over the years.

film
KM -
K2 DMD
K1000
K1000SE -
ME +
ME Super +
MX +
Spotmatic

digital
K-20D
K-100D (IR Converted)
K-5

+ sold
- stolen in 1987
Bold still own and use

I also own 21 Pentax brand lenses; as K(K), K(M), K(A), DA, DA*, and M42 (Screw Mount) Mounts. And a 19mm Vivitar K(A) lens.
In addition I have a couple Kodak and Samsung digital Point-N-Shoots, and two 4x5" film View Cameras.
Plus a few vintage 35mm and 620 (6x6cm) cameras.

I am thinking of a K-5IIs or K-3 next.

That is just a 72dpi for Web use, it looks better at 300dpi. Now that you said something about it is a bit "light here. It was processed for printing on our huge Chromira Digital Color printer and is much darker printed. I almost always have may cameras set 1/2 stop underexposed. The "objects" in the image covered probably 12 feet in depth. I can't say what F-Stop I used as my K-3 does not record such metadata for M-Series lenses. But with a shutter speed of 1/750 s, I could have gone two stops down and used a smaller aperture, but that might have made little difference on a crop factor with a 100mm (as 150mm on a film camera); shallow depth of field. Had I shot with one of my several 50mm lenses there would have been more depth of field but that is not how I shot it. Thanks for the feedback anyway.

This is straight photography, no HDR, no Topaz, no Nik. Just CS-6 adjustments.

Hi,

I just joined. Well, I set up an account. I may have had one as I have been receiving Forum emails for years. I currently have a number of Pentax cameras, both digital and film.
