When you are buying a new camera, go to the store and handle it for a while. See how it fits in your arms. See if the menus are annoying. Fall in love with it. Because if you do not, then you'll hate to take it with you, and you will not be able to just take more photos, you'll hate to carry it around with you, and your pictures will not be something you'll be proud of. Do not rely on a feeling that you'll grow to love it. You won't.

Poll: OFFICIAL K-01 Styling Poll

-How would you rate the look overall?
I gave it a 2. It's like some child drew a picture of a camera.

-Does the 40mm fit the camera well?
No. It looks like a cap with a hole. Reminds me of the mops (pug) dog.

-Are you planning on buying one based on what you've read about it in the official announcement?
No. It's pretty ugly (since that's what you are asking in the first place), does not have weather sealing, and nobody mentions EVF. I really like to press the camera to my face. Price is too close to K-5 (900$ vs. 750$).

-In buying a camera, how important is the look compared to the features? Very important, somewhat important, or unimportant?
It's not unimportant, but I chose Canon A70 (another ugly camera) over lean and mean Nikon of the time due to performance only.

-How do you think people who've never heard of Pentax would react to this camera?
With contempt and ridicule.
Edit: I asked people who are not photographers (everyone heard of Pentax), what do they think about K-01, and got answers: "looks expensive" and "meh". So, it's not contempt and ridicule. I am sorry for letting my feelings get into the way of clear thinking.

I believe that silhouette of a camera in that position is not too wise thing to do, since it can (and if it can, it will) bring male organ-related comments.

I'd go with Ash's suggestion, making a polo shirt with that logo above the heart, or a regular T-shirt with it on the back (top), with front saying "If you need to shoot, use camera". Or viceversa.

Pentax model shoot (PG-13)

No, I do not shoot models. My shots would certainly be inferior to yours.
That said, I look at model shots, and I see that there is a lot of acting in posing.
Your pics in this series are nice, but they do not produce the WOW! effect on me like Codiac's and Benjikan's do.
Maybe they have more experience, and maybe it's just that their style coincides with my taste.
Nevertheless, I see potential in your pics. Maybe in a shoot or two, you'll make those pics that will leave me speechless.
Have a nice day!

Pictures are nice, and technically well done, but why does your model have "stone face"?
Face is very important, because it transmits mood and feelings. There are pics where a "pouting" face would be perfect, some need a smile, some a frown.
The problem with lack of it is that it looks like: photographer made me do this shoot, and I want to get over with it. (I get a lot of that look from my wife when I try to take pictures of her :) )

But that is my feeling about it. I hope benjikan sees this video and gives his opinion.

Well, that was his first encounter with chocolate (we put a bit into the semolina (I hope this is the word)) , and he learns how to feed himself. He was a lot tidier when he was breastfed. :)

Do not worry Gary, camera is usually far enough that he cannot reach it, although he could throw things (food) at it

Fortunately he does no such thing. He's a good little boy.
And his name is Robert.

Pentax REALLY a Winner?

Hmm, logical reason for staying with Pentax?
There is none. Or there is zillion reasons.

Let's make a small diagram...

Why did you choose Pentax in the first place?
Do these reasons still hold?

IF (you have enough money to change systems) THEN (go through all the thrills and chills of selling your equipment and buying another system and be prepared not to be satisfied because the grass is always greener on the other side)
ELSE stay with Pentax

I hope this helped.

P.S. You could also outgrow your camera. If that is the case, choose your new camera from wherever you want. But remember - cameras are like a hammer and chisel. One could be diamond coated (Pentax :D ) the other plain steel, but that would not matter to Michelangelo. You are the one making pictures. You could buy a new camera (FF, medium format, P&S you name it) and make better or worse pictures than you are making now.
I have recently been pleasantly surprised how good some of my pics turned out to be.

Camera Stores are selling low-priced DSLRs

There was an interesting review in Practical Photography in which they roughly stated that K2000 (or K-m) is a nice camera, but Canon and Nikon (and Sony) are delivering equal or more for less, and that if you do not have legacy lens, it's not worth it.

It surprised me that K2000 is more expensive than K200D.

So, Pentax should revise prices and give best value as he once did. Maybe then it will be more popuar.

Which of the two lenses?

I have just one thing to tell you, which is two things:
1. go to Austria (maybe Croatia) and see for yourself how lens behave. There is a small and friendly bunch of Pentax users near you at hrphotocontest forum, and among them they do have both lens. I believe they get together every once in a while and then you can ask them to try the lens you are interested in.

2. I got Metz58, and it improved my indoor pics enormously :)

3. getting a Metz does not mean you cannot get DA35 or DA40 and vice versa ;)

Pentax snags another POTD!

I could not agree more. I really hate when someone wirtes Pentax snags another POTD.

I wonder if someone who used Mont Blanc fountain pens to write a novel that reached No1 on a bestseller list would write "Mont Blanc snags another No1 place", or would he write "I snagged another No1"?

People using cameras are true makers of a beautiful picture. Cameras are just tools. Like circular saws.
Never heard anyone say: Hey you really have a good circular saw. You can really see its impact on that wooden table you made.

So, go and take your circular saw and make some nice furniture... err... take your camera and shoot some nice pictures...

Have a good light,

P.S. I really like your shot.

I remember getting all kind of (tacky, useless, wouldn't give them to my enemy) Christmas decorations, but the best worst gift I ever encountered was when my GF got earrings for pierced ears from her best friend.
My GF has never pierced her ears and has no intention to.

What's the price for 100mm macro? Around 200$ less than this affordable limited...
I believe that for macro, 100mm would be more convinient than 35mm...
And then, there is that Tamron 90mm...
As you could imagine, I am not so enthusiastic about this lens...
