One from yesterday, was initially thinking of brightening the blacks and keeping the colour, but dark black and white won out in the end.

Thanks, its a look I often strive for so good to know I am hitting the mark. To be fair scenes like this don't need need much work, you just have to be there.

A colour and a black and white version. My aim was to strike a balance of doing some editing but still keeping it natural, to that end I didn't want to go too far with retouching but used the heal brush on a few areas and had a play with the skin correction tool in Capture One (something I don't normally use). 5x4 crop just because.

Pentax k-r time gets reset

I wouldn't think it would be a trivial replacement, nothing is on modern electronics, but I think its some kind of rechargeable cell. My k-r sits mostly unused nowadays but this did happen after sitting for a while with no battery in it, leaving it with a fully charged battery should charge it back up, might take a while though.
I ressurected an old gps unit that the battery died on and it took a good few days with fresh batteries to come back.

Thematic Post your Church images

Its a shrine and not an actual church but I think it fits here, St Josephs Shrine is located on the edge of the woods near the ruins of the old Errwood Hall in the Goyt Valley. The hall survived the reservoir being built but has since burnt down, the village it was part of is long gone underneath the water.
This little shrine however remains, seemingly in the middle of nowhere sited opposite some dark and slightly ominous (on dark British days anyway) woods.

The standout feature of infra red black and whites to me would be the bright white foliage and deep black skies, so to that end I brightened the green/yellow channels fairly significantly, as well as darkening what little blue there is in that sky. Then zoomed in and selectively darkened the more prominent man made objects and farm animals to match my experience when shooting IR.

I might come back to this and try a colour IR version too.

Apologies for being a day late with judging. Normally I would like to give my thoughts and comments on each of the images but if you will forgive me just this once I will be a bit more brief.

When I processed this scene I felt it needed very little work, (maybe a few dust spots needed fixing) but I think there is still different ways to take this, included sky replacement which I will be honest and say I am not normally a fan of but a few versions here have used it to great effect. Namely Kerrowdown's version which when combined with the cinematic colour grading has worked a treat, also the much more dramatic flair of xs400's edit.
Fdooch has really enhanced the misty moorland feel and I do appreciate the additions of the stag and bagpiper in tuggie76's version.
The black and white that stood out the most to me was the tighter crop by savoche.

For those interested my version was a fairly simple grainy black and white conversion, keeping the dark and rainy atmosphere of the real thing.

I liked all your versions, but as I have to pick a winner I am going with Kerrowdown, congrats and over to you for the next round!

To be fair this was taken 1 1/2 years ago, I have totally(!!) cleaned it since then.... Its one of those jobs that gets put off time and again, easy enough to clone out the obvious spots in skies like this is my thinking.

Appreciated, indeed I too like the original, it was one of those scenes that naturally presents itself to you. I had only just parked up and this was literally the first thing I got a photo off that day. But there is always room to stamp your personal style on these things I think.

Nice entries all round so far everyone.

Welcome to Post Processing Challenge #375

First off thanks to Fdooch for hosting the last round and providing an excellent image to work on.

A rainy and misty scene for you this week, taken in the Goyt Valley above Errwood reservoir in the Peak District, on the aptly named 'The Street'
I will let this run for a week ending next Sunday the 27th June.

Thanks, I couldn't help but keep my version a bit dark with the cooler blue tones remaining prevalent. It seems like you weren't entirely happy with the result but to me the base exposure was just perfect for the scene, even more so with your added narrative. I like dark and moody, and regularly shoot with that in mind with my own work so it was only natural for me to embrace it.
Thanks for a great image to work on and I am really glad you liked my edit.
I will try and find something worthy for the next round tomorrow.

Thought I would try and add a lonely figure to match your narrative, its a bit crappy close up but at this size I am happy with it.

Have you got the negatives back yet? If it was an exposure issue you should be able to tell, overexposed would result in thick and dense negatives, conversely underexposed results in thin negatives. Also worth checking outside the frames to see if its fogged and if the writing along the edges is clearly developed.

Right then, a fantastic set of entries and fun as well. This farm could easily serve as a spooky location and I love how you embraced the horror theme that I went with for my version.
I'll give some thoughts on each image and then try and pick a winner.

mariwalt Straightening the image and cropping in nice and tight changes the feel of the image, I like the darkness of the hallway which contrasts nicely with the bright detail you have pulled back outside. Interesting that you chose to remove the chair legs neatening things up a bit.

Kerrowdown Again you went with the straightened approach but keeping it wide this time. I have noticed you flip images quite a lot, it does add a new dimension. I do like the cool unsaturated look to the colours you have gone with, gives it quite a chilling appearance.

astomn What an interesting effect, something I would never think to do, it adds a certain ghost dimension look to the place which works very well. Nicely done.

jmacias Love it! The chains and message on the door certainly take you down the horror route. The edit looks pretty convincing at this scale, in fact the image as a whole to me looks like a computer game. Another great one.

pkboy Self confessed lazy masking is not really an issue at this scale, a great take on the image and well done. I feel like I'm being sucked in.

stevejo Very creative, the figure is perfectly placed and indeed quite creepy. Keeping a bit of translucence and matching the light on the surroundings with the glowing presence makes for a well done edit.

Pelto A good black and white edit on its own but the addition of the screamer at the door is awesome, it just fits so well.

xs400 Genuinely quite sinister, the tilted door frame, blinding light behind and then inky blackness of the figure all add up to something special. Glad we didn't run in to this guy.

tuggie76 Groovy man! Changing tack completely after the horror scenes above, would much rather run in to them through the door. The colourful graffiti blends in well even if the artist looks a bit pasted on. Refreshingly different.

I am still none the wiser... honestly I could pick several of these as the winner but as I have to pick one.
I think as it was the one that I thought was most sinister xs400 is the winner. Congratulations and over to you for the next round.

Once again great entries all round, you made my job difficult this week.

Something I can definitely relate too, having a task to focus on (be it daily photography or whatever else) has been quite important through this Winter and Spring lockdown number whatever.
Going forward I am never taking another hug for granted!
