K20D Hangs up after shot

I have noticed that on my K20, if the preview is set to "digital", and if I turn the power switch on aggressively and move it to the "preview" position momentarily, the camera will seem to hang up when I shoot the first pic. I power it off and it takes a few seconds to turn off. I now have the preview mode set to optical, ie, you have to look into the viewfinder to check depth of field.
Maybe you did something like that by accident??

K20D Warranty Promotion

I ordered the K20 from Amazon (Cameta) on 10/22 and received it 10/28. Then I heard about the 3 yr warranty and inquire to Pentax. They told me what to do and it arrived yesterday. I registered on line and all is set. Thanks Pentax! BTW, I paid 829 and now it is down to 789. Oh well, I still got a good deal. That is less than what I paid for my K10 almost 2 years ago.

T-mount?

T-Mount lenses are not as readily available as in the 60's to 90's, but are sometimes a bargain. Mostly used for 200mm lenses and longer, but also available in all fl's.
I picked up a 350mm f/5.5 about 12 years ago that remains to this day one of the sharpest lenses I have ever owned.
The beauty of them is that they are very compact and lightweight most of the time and with another adapter the lens can be used on a different camera type.

Some shots from GFM, NC

The Eagle is a captive at the Visitors Center/Museum on GFM.
I honestly do not remember the flower variety. Some type of wild azalea I believe.
The flowers were at their peak when we were up there and the photo opportunities were unbeatable!! The weather was a little wet at times and no times of full sun, but I had a great time anyway. Definately will return next year!

The maroon one has a V16 insignia so it may be a Packard but not sure.

The yellow one is probably a 49 or 50 Ford.

Nice shots. I love my 10~17 FE!!

Slides - Scan or Copy?

It depends on how many slides you have or plan to scan.
If you only need to scan a few dozen, do it with the bellows/macro lens. I got some pretty good results that way with a point/shoot digital a few years ago. The K10 would be even better. The most difficult part is getting the lighting right.
If you have hundreds or thousands, then definately get the fixed film scanner, like the Nikon or the Minolta. I have an older HP film scanner that I love and it really does great scans at 2600 dpi. That has proven to be good enough for 13 x 19 prints.

Suggestions for macro photography

I recently purchased the Cosina 100mm f/3.5 from B&H. I got the manual focus version for about 120.00.
It is sharp and contrasty, easy to focus, and goes to 1:2 without the included closeup diopter lens that takes it to 1:1.
I don't tend to do a lot od macro work but wanted the capability, and this one fits the bill nicely.
I also agree that some of the older Pentax lenses from KEH would make a good choice as well.

Correct Exposure on the Beach

I typically will dial in minus EV from .5 to 1.0 in high light conditions. It really depends a lot on the overall light and subject matter.
Surprisingly, in film days, the tendency was more toward under exposure rather than over.
Another problem I have discovered with my K10 is that in high ambient light when I am chimping, otherwise good exposures look too light to me. Then, after I adjust accordingly, I later find that the origonal exposure was more correct. Not always but more often than not.

Looking for a printer

The R1800 is old technology, and even though I own one and am very pleased with it. The latest version is the 1400. It is priced at 399.00 and does the same 13 x 19 print. The R380 (I believe) is the equivalent version for 8.5 x 11 and runs about 130.00. If you seldom do the big prints go for the smaller printer. The smaller footprint is much more managable in a home computer environment
I strongly recommend the Epson brand over any others out there, but I am sure there are others just as dedicated to the HP's and Canons. :-)

I don't usually shoot raws but I have found that I usually have to set a minus 1/3 to 2/3 ev on most shots to get what I like. Sometimes it doesn't hold true but is easy enough to fix. I have always preferred a little higher saturation, and I don't like to blow out highlights.

Anyone Seen or used this?

The adapter allows the use of PK645 lenses on any K mount Pentax. However, there is no auto stop down, so you will have to use in manual mode only and stop the lens down manually. Focus confirmation may be possible at the larger apertures but may not work once you stop down several stops. Naturally the trick is to focus and compose wo and then stop down for the final exposure.
All this is slow and tedious unless you are working on a tripod or in a studio.

K10D: 1 Concrete: 0

I had my DL mounted to a refractor telescope thet was pointed straight up. The camera was about 3 feet off the concrete driveway. I walked away during an exposure but as I got about 2 steps I heard it fall onto the concrete. I was horrified as well, but upon inspection, it was found to be ok. I even took it inside in the light and could find no sign anywhere of where it hit. That was about 3 weeks after purchasing and it is over two years old now. They are tougher than we think, fortunately!

I don't know about "which version" of the Remote F, I thought there was only one. I bought mine from Amazon for under 20.00 and it works with my DL and K10D.

Depending on your length of stay, and finances!!!, you might want to look at going over to the Cape Canaveral complex. The Kennedy Visitor Center has a great tour, but pricey.
Ther is a local Gator spot, Gator Land, that is within a few miles of Disney, that is very good.
If you need to talk send me a PM. I live in the area.

Sigma 500DG Super Flash

It has been rechipped. Before that it would work with the DL and not with the 10D.
Like I said, on the DL it is a great flash and very repeatable. Not so on the 10D.
I supect that the degree of sophistication of the 10D has given Sigma problems in attempting to reverse engineer their flashes to be fully compatable with the K10D.
I have not used the Super version but in all honesty I doubt I would pay the money for the extra features. If I am going to pay that much I will go with Pentax.
