I have been thinking of photos in the COVID-19 era I could do, too. I am not stuck at home, yet. I am practicing social distancing everywhere including my law office. If I can get a few hours on a weekend, I'd like to do a trip around NE Iowa photographing churches. We have some really grand old architecture in NE Iowa. I suggested to a Catholic priest who is on a board for a residential care facility I serve on that the faith of our forefathers is apparent in old church architecture, and he - about 86 years old, and a better historian in these matters than me, suggested it was not faith as much as trying to show up the other area communities (he didn't say it, but maybe it was vanity). But, I must say 130 years later the structures and interior accoutrements make a big impression on me about the importance of their faith if they would put that much effort and expense into their endeavors.

And, one photo would speak 1,000 words. So I am limiting my words here. I need to take a short trip and entertain you.

Long explanation. Two years ago, I was checking out Arlo Guthrie's concert schedule. Cripes, I missed him in Iowa City, but his schedule placed him in Tucson. I contacted family members in Tucson, and my sister, just retired from the police dept. knew someone running security for an Arlo Guthrie concert at a theatre. So I sent her a photo of my old VW Microbus, to ask if she could get it autographed, and yes! It was about almost as thrilling then as scoring a package of toilet paper in March 2020 !

A local artiste, and photographer, who has done framing for me was commissioned. I gave her my photo of the Microbus with Arlo's signature. She knew the song, and the background about it, even the red VW Microbus - she's 4-years older than me. I didn't know the background until the past 5-years. My VW Microbus was a 1970. I hauled Ramsey Clarke in it in Tallahassee. It was 10-years old when photographed. Look at the antique guides around the photo of my Microbus. She is an artiste and I gave her complete license to create something I could display. She put this collage together. I am not posting this anywhere else, just here. For those who don't know the background of Alice's Restaurant, go here:

There is a B-movie for free on youtube, too.

I drove this thing Dubuque to Tallahassee RT about 4-times.

I saw this full moon in Iowa tonight, but the sky was still blue. Here is what I like about your photo. The focus is spot on especially at the right and lower perimeter, and I can appreciate there is some altitude on some of the craggy formations against the moon's horizon.

It will be a few months. The EV charging station is not complete. The hitching post isn't yet here.

Give me a day or two. I heard the bank president on the radio talking about the hitching post and EV charging station after I discovered the EV charging station. The new bank building just opened in the past week I haven't actually seen the hitching post, so I'll have to look. I haven't seen a horse tied up just yet, but the Amish don't have radios either so news travels slower to them. I might talk one of my Amish friends into bringing a horse up here, for fun, which could take weeks. They don't ordinarily drive their buggies 7-miles into town since there is smaller closer town for them to go to. But the hitching post was intended for the Amish. Pretty smart banking move since some of the Amish are well off, even though they absolutely don't show it.

Talk about a green revolution, we have a mini-one in Manchester, Iowa. Be patient, and I'll get pic(s).

We just had a new bank building go up in our town of 5,000. In the parking lot are our town's first two electric vehicle charging stations, and a hitching post for horses.

We actually do have snow on the ground in Iowa, but it is the warmest winter in memory. It is January and temps hover around 30-34 degrees F during the day. Only somewhat cooler at night. Unseasonably warm for this time of year here.

The past several winters we have been cooler than normal as the jet stream adversely affected winter weather in the Midwest U.S. But this year we are warm.

Abstract DV, Virgil Hawkins, and me

I was a law student in the early 1980s, but I didn't know before I entered school the law school building where I attended classes was named after a Florida Supreme Court justice who defied the U. S. Supreme Court, and notwithstanding multiple orders, he led the Florida Supreme Court in rejecting the admission of a black student on multiple occasions who admittedly was academically qualified to be admitted at the University of Florida law school, solely because he was black. Instead, Florida opened a law school at Florida A & M, a historically black college, only for him. Well, he continued fighting for admission to a regular law school, and ended up ultimately going to a law school in New England after fighting to integrate the state university system in Florida for 10-years, unsuccessfully between 1949 and 1959.

The law school building at FSU bears the name of the Florida Supreme Court Justice who defied the U.S. Supreme Court multiple times to admit Virgil Hawkins to the University of Florida Law School. So, in 1984 I was a member of a group of law students who invited Virgil Hawkins, then in his 70s, to come and speak to us. He obtained a law degree late in life. I didn't expect much. But he delivered more than anyone expected when he spoke. Virgil was articulate. He gave us a moving address. Virgil is Florida's Rosa Parks. I am so proud just to have met him, and to have been a part of inviting him to speak at the law school named for his nemesis, who completely rejected him. And, I also interviewed B.K. Roberts in preparation for Virgil coming to Tallahassee. He wished Virgil well, but didn't apologize for what he did.

In 50-years from now fossil fuel companies will be paying through the nose like cigarette companies. For now they pay politicians who claim to know more than scientists. The Dutch probably are brilliant. In the 1960s and 70s we were taught how they could put their finger in a dam to stop a flood. Probably not, but when Greenland is more melted, Holland, NYC and a good part of Florida will be gone.
