Taken today. I would definitely vouch for the Meyer Optik / Pentacon 135mm if you like monstrous bokeh.

I love the new sub forum. It saves me time scrolling through the different threads involving different camera models especially at this time that I only want to read about the K5. When the K4 comes out, thats all what I want to read, too. This is the idea of sub forums - quick access to a specific topic. Just imagine if there is only one forum for everything. It would be frustrating to wade through the sea of threads just to get to what you want.

For general use, parties, traveling, photo journalism where multiple FL is required:

DA* 16-50mm
DA* 50-135mm

For specialist shooting where IQ is demanded:

DA 15mm for landscapes
DA 35mm for flower macro, street scenes
FA 77mm for portrait shots

extra: D FA 100mm WR for serious macro & bokeh production

Pentax: give Benjikan a K5 and 645D

+ 1. I do hope Hoya/Pentax get to see the value of endorsements from famous pro photographers like Benjikan. My interest is for Pentax to succeed in the DSLR market which in return would benefit us users who have substantial investments in Pentax lenses and accessories.

Poll: Those getting a K-5 : What will you be upgrading from?

I had a K10d for 3 years now. I guess it is due for an upgrade.

With the K5, I wouldn't anymore have to worry about: inaccurate metering (with and w/o hot shoe flash), slow AF, AF not locking in low light, noisy high ISO, no very high ISO - 3200/6400, back/front focusing lenses, unstable adjustment dials, low res LCD and less than 100% viewfinder. These are the not so few issues I had to contend with the K10D:mad:. I couldn't imagine the relief I would feel once I get my hands on the K5. Whether the wife agrees it or not, the K5 is mine!

What does expanded ISO really mean for Pentax?

Expanding on the above definition (no pun intended), I guess you can say "Expanded ISO is like alcohol consumption, it is there for you if you want it but don't use it regularly".

Sorry I can't help it. My kids say they hate my dad jokes but they still laugh. :D

+1. Well done paperbag846 for a very insightful and intelligent input. I don't think Hoya/Pentax decision makers are stupid and your analysis makes sense on why the DA 35mm f/2.4 was released instead of any other lens.

Why the remorse? Isn't the Voigtländer 125 a much better lens than the Dine or Vivitar 105?

With Cosina re-releasing the 90mm SL, I am expecting the 125mm to follow soon. I already have the Vivitar 105mm, I wonder if it is worth getting the VL 125mm.

I have Lester's twin brother - the Vivitar Series 1 105mm. It's one of the four lenses I purchased which was influenced by Jay's shots.

I have a soft spot for bokeh as you can see.

The XR Rikenon 50mm f2 sharpest 35mm lens claim

Hi Steve,

One of the 50mm lenses in your signature is the Sigma 50/2.8 EX DG Macro, is it correct to assume that the Rikenon beat this one, too?

The problem with the Volna 9 is that it is not as available compared to the Nokton which produces similar results. Plus, the nokton is much sharper and can go wider at f/1.4 for a smoother bokeh.

Voe: Please correct me if the above has changed lately.

To the Volna's credit, it's only 1/4 of the price of a Nokton.

Help - can't remove lens from my K2000
Posted By AlexJ

My first manual lens purchase was almost a disaster. It was a P/KAR mount which got jammed in my camera.

There were only two available information found at that time in the internet. One was to locate the pin and depress it with a super-thin feeler gauge but that didn't work. The other advice was to destroy the lens with a drill. It was too destructive an option for me and I considered it only as a last resort.

I experimented with a less invasive option and it worked for me. See here for tip on how to remove the lens without destroying it. Let me know your results if ever you would follow down this path.

Vivitar 105mm f/2.5 Macro - Flora under the rain

Your Viv 135mm photos is what inspired me to take the above shots after the rain has fallen. So I can now say, "I blame Igilligan" for these photos.

Also, I needed a reason to resist the temptation of getting the Viv 135mm after seeing your photos. And to stop desiring after other Macro lenses e.g., Pentax M 100mm, Tamron 90mm, Voigtlander 125mm, etc. I only had the K10D for these shots, so it would be good to see what the K20D can do for the Venerable Viv 105mm. Looking forward to see your shots.

After a week of blistering heat, the cool rains has come back to Sydney. My wife's plants are ecstatic about its return and so am I. Meanwhile, my beloved macro lens has begged me to capture this refreshing moment. Also to celebrate a moment of redemption, the rain surely speaks of hope and renewal.

@@@ Legendary PENTAX SMC-K 135mm f/2.5 Performance @@@

Wow! Starscream's photos are indeed impressive. Attributable to the lens' legendary performance - yes, but most of it must be from the the photographer's talent and skill.

Everyone seeing the above photos must be feeling encouraged to go and use their 135mm lenses some more. In that case, Starcream or someone should start a 135mm thread and lets all post our samples to it. ;)

The 135mm lens is one of the most common FL among manual primes. If you don't have one, there is close to a hundred 135mm prime lenses currently available in Ebay for Pentax users. They're relatively cheap especially the M42 ones.
