Weird pattern in astro photos

Gee that shots got it all hasnt it - even a waterfall plunging into the ocean! I have only shot the bioluminescence once so should set it as a goal once the quarantine stuff lifts a little. In Tassie, the "holy grail" shot is the bioluminescence in the ocean with an aurora in the sky - there's a couple of spots that can be done :)

Weird pattern in astro photos

Hi everyone, thanks for the quick replies - had not heard of Newtons Rings before so that is something to look into :)

To PJV - no filters. Given it was a night shot I upped the ISO so I was also wondering if that was an issue (but didnt really think so) but yes - slartibartfast01 and mikeSF - I redid it without the lens profile correction and its fine. That is a really easy fix. I am in the habit of always clicking those boxes but know not to now for astro :)

Thanks heaps, I didnt think it would be this simple to fix!

SLR Lounge- Noise comparison shot K-1 vs K-1mkII @ISO 12800 - good improvement

I get more use from pixel shift on macro than any other shooting style, mainly because the subject usually isnt moving!

I originally thought the enhanced resolution was the main benefit but in the end the colour reproduction is what I really like about pixel shift. I usually shoot once with pixel shift on, and again with it off, and even just toggling back and forth between the two images on the back of camera you can see richer colours on the pixel shift shot.

Interval shooting problem

Or... leave the interval at 2 seconds, go into C menu 2, and into item #13 (interval shooting options) and select option 2.

This will mean that the camera will fire 2 seconds after every exposure, regardless of shutter speed ☺

Wow, can only hope the Australian pricing is just as aggressive - or alternatively that there is a major improvement in the exchange rate by April!

Off the top of my head, I think you can retain each image by clicking the "save" option on the set up screen.

aurora photo op

This is a very strong aurora, I would suggest exposure times under 30 seconds. If you can shoot at shorter shutter speeds you should, as you will capture more of the structure of the aurora ie beams etc

K3 II pixel-shift samples on IR. I'm impressed

This camera is complicating things! I wasn't planning to upgrade from the K3 until the FF comes out, but this feature and the inbuilt GPS (Astro tracer) are making me think twice... Its about time Ricoh started announcing some details on the FF I think!

I too think it is fantastic that they are even asking for suggestions from users, Ricoh are really kicking goals and taking Pentax forward. The K3 and 645Z are fantastic and no doubt this full frame will punch pretty hard too :)

I would like to see:

* AF points spread over a wider area
* If building the GPS/Astro Tracer into the body is possible/practical I think that would be a great and unique feature to help the Pentax brand stand out
* I would like an on-screen timer for shooting in bulb mode. This should be pretty simple shouldnt it? In fact if this could be added to existing models through a firmware update that would be great too. I shoot bulb a lot (with a 10 stopper) so would love to have an on screen timer rather than use my phone
* I think 36MP is a minimum. Unfortunately the MP race is on, and if Pentax were to debut a FF in 2015 with less than 36 it would lack the clout of the other brands. Canon have just announced 50MP and Olympus a 40MP option through sensor shannanigans so I'd like to see Pentax do something eye-catching on the MP front too.
* A nice and fast (2.8) wide angle lens would be great too. Either a prime, or something in the 12-24 range or similar.

Astro Tracer (OGPS1) question

Greetings all, I am wondering if any Astro Tracer users have come across the following results - see attached pic (IMGP2705), which is a 2 minute exposure. I have had success so it's not that all images are looking like this - far from it, I think it is a fantastic addition to the kit, and it gets some nice "oohs" and "aahs" from the Canikon crowd :)

I am using the 70-200mm f2.8 from Tamron.

I have also uploaded a 60 second exposure of the Orion nebula to show that things are going right sometimes too! The mind boggles at what could be achieved with a longer lens...
