DFA 150-450mm needs repair

I finally got around to sending my D-FA150-450 to Mike at Phototronic.biz per Aslyfox's recommendation. After talking with Mike, I'm confident he can make the repair, or at worst, just make it a fixed 450mm lens.

Also, found out that he is familiar with the aperture block issue that many Pentax cameras suffer, and had a relatively inexpensive repair for that too (he said he doesn't actually replace the solenoid, but has a work around that fixes the issue). So I sent him my aperture blocked K-30 too. Getting everything fixed.

My wife's hobby is woodturning and I like taking pictures of her work. Here is one of the baby rattles she made, although one person purchased one to use as a cat toy.

Here is one I took with my FA 50mm F2.8* macro at F/4, to see what the bokeh looked liked. Just goofing around.

Actually, Norm, that's a good example of what I meant by "unless it was one that was critical to their particular needs". As far as what you did before that feature, I assume you often went home with wet, sore elbows and knees. :D

The issue for me is, there is a distinct technical advantage to doing macro with APS-c. More pixels squeezed into a smaller space for more real world magninifaction.

Yet I've almost stopped using my K-3 in favour of my K-1 based on the fact it's so much easier to do low level images with he K-1 and the flipped up screen. I can't get up and down off the ground as easily as I used to, and I've grown to be totally not OK with rolling around in the mud for low angle shots. In essence, the images would be better taken with the K-3, but I use the K-1.

But, not everyone (my wife included) even understands why I even take these images (she's like "what another mushroom?" Usually followed by something blasphemous and possibly obscene., so it doesn't surprise me that others might not understand the issue.

Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter- with 3 moons visible. 55-300PLM, Astrotracer. I replaced the very blown out Moon with another exposure from an earlier frame... just for fun :)

This is not the brand's forum, Nathan. Nor is it some sort of public service. It is privately owned, no association with Ricoh.

Particularly, it's not some sort of place to vent - I don't come here to witness other people stamping their little feet over something they don't understand. I insist on this place being better than that, or if that just happens thread after thread, it's not worth my while paying for it annually. I don't sell stuff in the Marketplace, my Loyal Site Supporter status is because ... I support this site and its members.

People can tell very quickly if someone is just a whining loser. Or a fanboi. Particularly over time - they can't hide it.

But if people see all sides of your character - if you've invested in *them* first - it's amazing how big a criticism you can propose.

In one thread I've admitted I've supported the lawsuit initiated against Ricoh over the aperture block issue, even supplying the lawyers with advice. No shortage of the people I like have then disagreed with me, but all factual, all respectful so far, because there's no doubt I'm one of their brothers.

So, it's how you conduct yourself in a community, what you put into it first.

For someone who can't be bothered joining in, they're unhappy with their life and their hobby and just want somewhere to complain, I'll suggest DPR - basement dwelling trolls and open warfare between brand supporters are de rigeur.

Nice shots. The KP holds its fame as one of the best cameras for low light high ISO shots. Thanks for sharing

You guys have busted cameras.:lol::lol:
You are also doing it all wrong!!! You can't take pictures of BIFs!!! Send your cameras back for repair.
You're both defying the rule that Pentax can't shoot action shots!!!:lol::lol:

Nice shots by the way. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I own 2 silver KPs, and I do keep different lenses on them, of course and I find that to be a handy thing at times. The other reason, is backup. I do have other models to use as backup, but they are not KPs, and I do not have assurance that once the new flagship arrives will the KP continue to be made?? It was not meant to be a flagship replacement, so I am assuming this unique design will be continued along with the entry model and the flagship, eventually an upgraded KP II or K?

So I consider extra copies as protection against not having any in the long run.

Merry Christmas and such events to all!

I went and took some foggy Christmas photos with the IR-Chrome filter. I was quite surprised how the scenery turned out. Cannot wait to shoot this during the summertime.

Forever Autumn -filter. It also seems to filter out most of artificial light during the night when shooting some cityscapes. Quite handy actually.

Given the glass you own.... I'd get a K1.... maybe a lightly used 2nd hand one (K1ii doesnt offer much more in my view).... then later maybe a crop camera to compliment it... (KP is cheap)... it's what I've settled on.

First test run with Zeiss 50MP. No filters. Reds are highly magnified as expected.

Setup reaches infinity barely requiring f/5.6 for sharp horizon. It was not perfect before either, required about f/4. Some flares are present which were not there before (as expected). This scenery is as hard as it gets for a test run. Almost pitch black foreground and very bright background light spots. On the lower left there is an intense highlight spot which is a frozen rock mirroring the background lights.

No, the solenoid is in the entry level models.

The KP, K-1 and 645Z use stepper motors.

Enjoy your beautiful purchase!
