URGENT: help with premiere pro cs6 and pentax KR
Posted By iceshiel

I shot .AVI videos with my KR and I've edited them in premiere pro CS6 successfully.

However, my media files suddenly went offline. I have the 'Unsupported Format or Damaged File' error when I restart premiere pro and link the .AVI files again.

I tried it on two different computers and the same error occurs.

I am rushing a school project and everything depends on this video. I need urgent help from the community please. Thank you. :(

I used the DA15 almost exclusively for 5 months in the US. It worked amazingly well as a compact travel lens.

I wish I saw your post and read those articles before I went to the death valley! From my experience this is my advice:

1. GET A FILTER. There will be sand everywhere.
2. Wear well sealed shoes. Sand leaked into my sports shoes and it was really awkward.
3. As much as possible... change lenses indoors or in the car.

What lenses to bring on a trip to NY & DC?

I travelled NY and DC with the DA15 and DA35 limited. I only used the 15. NY's streets were too busy to give me any room to change lenses comfortably.

I have no experience with the 21mm but I love my 15mm. It is a little too wide to be as versatile as the 21. However, I feel that the 15mm has a lot of character and is a really REALLY fun lens to use. If I get it rght, the photos from my 15mm make me smile.

How do you that AV mode has selected the appropriate speed? Is there any indication? What I'm doing now is I always press the green button to meter but it is in M mode.

I didnt get a CPL for my DA15 as I was afraid of it being too wide. The lens itself produces very stunning and contrasty colour without the CPL. My friends who saw my pictures with it actually thought I used one.

As an industrial design major, my DA15 has proven to be indispensable for photo and video documentation during design research.

It is wide enough to capture everything in tight spaces. This is important when documenting research processes because you want to capture the subject in his/her environment. The close focusing ability allows me to take close up shots when I need to. In addition, the small size is an added advantage because it does not intimidate the interview subject. Just here to highlight that this lens is as fun as it is useful for serious work.

Very happy with this lens. I hope to share my photos here when I start using this lens for fun and not for school :P.

Okay so i fixed it.

I used the screw on lens cap of the DA15 and screwed it in tight onto the UV filter. I then used it to dislodged the UV filter. It came out easily. I hope this information helps others :).

I tried the rubber band trick doesnt work because of the way the DA15's hood goes over the filter.

Something horrible just happened to me. I accidently pulled the strap of my KR and it dropped and bounced on the floor along with my newly bought DA15.

Amazingly nothing was damaged. There are no scratches and everything is working fine. HOWEVER, my UV filter is now stuck on my DA15. The filter has zero visible damage so I dont understand why it refuses to come out. I suspect the knock tightened the grip on the thread.

I only got my DA15 a few days ago and this happens. :( Can anyone help me with this?

This is what I was referring to regarding my helios 44-2 mounted on my KR. The metal mount and contact nubs of my KR are exposed. And the holes from the Pentax adapter seem like an open invitation for dust into my camera body. Would this a problem? Am I mounting my lens incorrectly?

Sure, I'll keep a lookout for polarizers on the desert floor :).

On the issue of polarizers... would it make a lot of difference for my photos on my DA15?

First DSLR (K-30) - Legacy glass or no?

I just bought and received a Helios 44-2. It is so much fun I've neglected my Limited glass since I got the Helios. It is not the best lens I have but the pictures it produces has a certain imperfect character that I can't quite explain.

Yes manual focusing can be frustrating but it slows down the process and makes each shot a calculated and deliberate composition.

Most legacy glass don't cost that much. Go for it. You will have so much fun.

My helios 44-2 sits above and exposes the metal lens mount of my pentax KR. I don't know how to describe this (this is my first m42 lens) but this part is not exposed on your typical DA lenses.

Should I be concerned about it? I imagine the metal parts would not do well exposed to the environment.

Thank you so much for the splendid advice. I will take note of everything!

I plan on just bringing my DA15ltd, DA35ltd and DAL55-300. I am not sure if the DAL55-300 is worth lugging around as it is quite large for my bag. Would the DA15 be appropriate for star photography at night? I want to avoid having the stars trail and am wondering if it is not fast enough.

I will be tent camping in Death Valley in March with my KR and Limited lenses. Neither my camera nor my lenses are weather resistant.

Should I be concerned about fine sand and dust in Death Valley? What could I do to reduce damage to my camera and lenses?

Please do share your shooting experiences within Death Valley too!

Should I have AA batteries as backup?

Just to update:

I got myself the adapter and a set of AA eneloops. I have yet to find myself in a situation where my lithium ion runs out and I need to switch to my AA batteries yet but I expect that it would happen when I go on my next road trip.

I am using a third party adapter and it works splendidly. The AA batteries make my KR noticeably heavier but it's fine by me. I havent taken them out for a proper day of shooting but seem to last longer than my lithium ion battery.

In terms of composition I think the landscape shots lack focal points of interest. There isn't anything interesting in the foreground to guide the viewer's eyes. Just my humble (and amateur!) opinion :).

Tripod newbie

I use a Sirui tripod. I can't remember the model number but it offered the best balance of affordability and quality to me.

When I first bought the tripod I went with an aluminum tripod because I wanted to save money. Now I actually regret not getting the carbon fibre version. Travelling with a heavy tripod is painful and I don't mind paying a premium for lighter equipment. This is something you might want to think about.
