You're welcome. Given the design of the clamping mechanism on the hood, it can move if mishandled. This is as secure as if the hood were mounted directly on the lens. So, as long as the step-up ring is securely threaded on the lens, and the hood is securely clamped on the ring, then I'd say Yes. If one were to bump it, it will move, but then the whole camera may.

I'll take that as a compliment. ;) Thank you, Sir.
My SMC-A 645 35mm was purchased used more than 8 years ago, when I had a 645N. According to the lens reviews here, a new one originally came with a round hood. My lens, if I recall correctly, was purchased from KEH, as a 'bargain' lens, sans caps. I find it was a bargain, for me, and this clip on hood, which I adapted later, has worked well on it. :)
Now that you've reminded me, I've got to go off and see how it fits on my SMC-A 67 45mm...

I use the Pentax PH-SB 82mm hood on my SMC-A 645 35mm lens with a 77mm-82mm step up ring. Works well.

645z finicky shutter release button?

I have a tendency to use those $5 wired remotes one finds on the Bay. The manufacturer names are Neewer, Yonguo, Shoot, etc., and they frequently look similar, except for the name printed on them. I use them on all my bodies that have the remote socket (*istD, K10D, K-50, K-5, K-3, K-1, 645Z). I'll buy 3 or 4 at a time, since they're so cheap. They typically last a couple years, and then the simulated gold contacts seem to wear away, and I get intermittent operation from them. When they start to fail, I can half-press the button and nothing happens. If I wiggle the connector, rotate it in its socket, or pull it out and reinsert it, frequently it will start to work again, for a while, and I know it's time to order more. They're so cheap, I keep them in every camera bag (9), and backpack (3) I own. I even have one in the car.

My 3-year-old 645Z has an admittedly low shutter count of 12,700, and has had no issue with the on body shutter release or remote socket.

Does the shutter operate properly if the lens aperture ring is in the 'A' position? If so, you should be able to shoot wide open using the aperture control on the camera. Good luck.

I had the lockup problem in Scotland last year. It was fairly repeatable, in ~1°C weather, shooting panoramas with mirror lockup. This, even with freshly charged batteries. I stopped using mirror lockup, which helped considerably.

I'd like to see:
1) a firmware update to the 645Z to add catch-in focus
2) a light ultra wide for the 645, maybe 20mm, f4, no OS
3) firmware updates across all cameras, where possible, to add the depth bracketing of the PK

This looks like a useful one:
Changes to V1.40

[Enhanced features]

Red-lighted LCD monitor display function
The PENTAX K-1 provides a red-lighted LCD monitor display function, which prevents the pupils of the photographer’s eyes from closing down after they have become accustomed to a dark environment during astrophotography.
Bulb timer function
The bulb timer function comes in handy when photographing celestial bodies or fireworks. The PENTAX K-1 allows the photographer to expend an exposure time up to 20 minutes in Bulb mode.

*For more details click here

[Others]

During slow shutter speeds the PENTAX K-1 features white dot noise reduction processing. (*1)
Overall Improved stability for general performance.
*1: When Slow Shutter Speed NR is OFF and JPEG image.

Just tried it. Looking through the viewfinder, pressing the shutter release once raises the mirror, pressing the second time the bracketed shots are taken, then the mirror drops. The mirror doesn't return between the bracketed shots.

I contacted them via email as requested. About an hour later that 'used' item was gone, as if someone had made that purchase. About 4 hours after I sent the email I got this reply:
"Thanks for your interest! Pentax K-1 Full Frame DSLR Camera (Body Only) is Brand New, original box, sealed, never used, not scratches or any problems, comes in the manufacturer packaging with 2 Year full warranty and all manufacturer supplied accessories, US model. The total price is $1,098.00, including all shipping and insurance fees to United States / Canada. (3-5 business days).

The price is less than usual, because we have special offers and discounts in this period. The offer lasts 7 days. Take advantage while the offer lasts.

The transaction is through Amazon Payments; payment method is through Amazon Gift Card and you are covered by A-to-z Guarantee Protection. You can easily buy an Amazon Gift Card using your credit card directly on the Amazon website.

Return policy is full money back or replace the product, you can return it for any reason at all within 30 days.

If you want to buy, please confirm your full name and shipping address and I will place an order on Amazon for you; and then you receive the order confirmation from them with all details about the next steps to complete your purchase.
We will reserve the item for you and soon you receive the order confirmation from Amazon.

Many Thanks,
Media Market"

Does sound like a scam to me. I might consider a 'used' item for that low a price because I can see where the price would drop that much depending on circumstances. But a "Brand New, original box, sealed, never used, ..." item, at that price, is waaaay too good to be true. And only accepting an Amazon gift card as payment is another red flag.

Buyer beware!

Lens wish list for Pentax 645

Sorry, but I disagree on this point. Whatever you call it, OS or SR, it makes the lens too heavy. With the ISO performance of the 645Z, a shutter speed 2-3 times the focal length is quite practical. And I'd go for that DA 23mm (or anything in the 20-25mm range) in a heartbeat, if it were light and sharp.

OK. The files are now available. Ed has been busy and hasn't been able to give me details on the files, so what follows here is my best guess from the EXIF data in the files. Ed can clarify things as he gets time. It appears, from the EXIF data, that Ed shot in manual exposure mode, and bracketed 3 exposures at 0, -2 and +2 EV at ISO100.

This is a huge amount of data, 33 files total, so I've tried to break it down so it's relatively easy to get what you are looking for. If there are any requests beyond the organization presented here, just post and I'll do my best to make things available. I have zipped the files into archives by lens type. Those can be found here:
A35 12 files, 671,279KB,
DFA35.zip 12 files, 682,904KB,
DA28-45.zip 9 files, 508,980KB

Individual files, by lens, can be downloaded here:
DA28-45
IMGP5622.PEF, IMGP5623.PEF, IMGP5624.PEF, IMGP5625.PEF, IMGP5626.PEF, IMGP5627.PEF, IMGP5631.PEF, IMGP5632.PEF, IMGP5633.PEF

A35
IMGP5634.PEF, IMGP5635.PEF, IMGP5636.PEF, IMGP5637.PEF, IMGP5638.PEF, IMGP5639.PEF, IMGP5640.PEF, IMGP5641.PEF, IMGP5642.PEF, IMGP5643.PEF, IMGP5644.PEF, IMGP5645.PEF

DFA35
IMGP5652.PEF, IMGP5653.PEF, IMGP5654.PEF, IMGP5655.PEF, IMGP5656.PEF, IMGP5657.PEF, IMGP5658.PEF, IMGP5659.PEF, IMGP5660.PEF, IMGP5661.PEF, IMGP5662.PEF, IMGP5663.PEF

For those curious to see the scene Ed shot without downloading the files, here's a taste; DA28-45, f16, 1/60s, ISO 100:

Given that I don't know how many will be downloading these images, I may be testing the 'unlimited bandwidth' aspect of the agreement of my web site host, inmotion hosting. If there's any dialog about this, I'll give as much notice as I can before taking any 'action' they may deem appropriate. ;)

Enjoy!
