Couldn't agree more Adam. The 35mm has exceeded all my expectations for sharpness and bokeh. Just shot a family wedding and the clarity of the images is amazing. teamed with a K3 Silver, it's an awesome combination.

I am agonising over the FA31/1.8 - I might just have to bite the bullet. Thanks for the info re the Sigma 70-200 and although I take your point re the IQ of the 50-135, I do want the reach and it would complement the 24-70/2.8. More cogitation required :) I haven't experienced LBA for years but I think I am having a relapse. By the way, great photo!!
Cheers
Rob

:) We of the elite few - so lucky!

Thanks Mutters and Sandy for the recommendation of 50-135. Did look at that but I thought it might be useful to have a little more reach. I guess the 70-200 has been touted as a great lens (FL wise) for so long my thinking may have been coloured. Need to take a deep breath and think again.
Sandy, is your 31mm the FA 1.8? How do you find it?

cheers
Rob

Mine too, delivered to the office so I can't use it until the weekend.
Have a question though if someone can help. Got a wedding to shoot in January with K3 and K5. I have a 70mm 2.4Ltd for close.portrait shots but looking to buy a Sigma or Tamron 70-200 2.8 or the Pentax 60-250DA* for longer shots in the church. Does anyone have a recommendation. Not sure of the lighting inside as the wedding is interstate. Any other suggestions very gladly received.

How often does one need to recalibrate a monitor eg Dell 2208 LCD?

I know CRT's can sometimes drift a little with age but does that also apply to an LCD?

Thanks

TC advice

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Palmor - good thought re measuring clearance, but it might be a little shocking for the camera store guy if I ask to look at a new lens and then shove a ruler up the back end of it:eek:

Sounds like Kenko make good and bad so it would be nice to check the machined finish before buying. Will have to look more closely for Kenko product - haven't seen any here so far.

Thanks again.

I have read many of the TC threads but I would really like to know if there is a TC that works well with all lenses - Sigma, Tamron AND Pentax?

I have a 2x Sigma that is limited only to certain lenses in the Sigma range and certainly won't work with other brands. It has been illustrated in other threads that the limitation is the fact that the front element of the TC protrudes to the extent that it will interfere with the rear element of most lenses.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate the advice.;)

What a diverse group we all are -

Two days from now I go for an all day hike through Deep Creek Conservation Park in South Australia - travellling light so I will take the K10D, DA16-45 and SMC M135 F3.5, spare battery, 2gb Extreme SD card and CP filter for the 16-45.

Other times I take pretty much all in my sig, Bigma, 16-45, Sigma 24-70, Sigma 105, DA 70Ltd, SMC 135, Sigma 70-300, Sigma 2x Tele, filters, Manfrotto Tripod, Manfrotto Monopod, blower, Velcro straps ('cos ya just never know) spare SD cards, AF540FGZ, Cable remote and IR remote - like I said - 'cos ya just never know. Weighs a ton but I'd rather be prepared for anything. Got an almost new SMC A 50 1.7 coming, have no idea where I'm gonna put it though. Need a bigger bag. (are you listening dear wife?) Please . . . . . . . . . . begging doesn't become me:o

Just several more reasons to shoot Pentax. Compatibility - what a lovely word. That BG storage option is fantastic and apart from the comfort of the grip, keeping the remote and a spare card is a real boon!!:D.

Daniel,

As my sig shows, I have DA16-45, DA 70 Ltd and Sigma 24-70. Some folks have found the 24-70 to be too heavy and sometimes soft but I have no issue with it.

The 16-45 has been used for portraits as per the attached - no problem getting in close with this. Haven't really done anything useful yet with the DA70 but it shows promise. No time for photography of late
Good luck with your decisions.

Edit: Forgot to mention this shot has been downsampled in Vallen Jpegger for convenience. Sadly it loses a little bit regarding saturation and sharpness but illustrates the close in aspect of the lens.

Are you saying that Ricoh screens fit Pentax K10D?

Thanks to everyone for your comments so far - much to consider.

Does anyone know if there has been a definitve chart or such posted anywhere which lists what TC's (all brands) goes with which lenses. Would be a great post on this forum. I did have a quick Google but didn't turn up anything useful - maybe my syntax was at fault.:o

Interesting thread Bruce - I am 54 and finding similar issues. Lack of streadiness in the hands and reduced acuity in my "good" eye. Just posted a thread in the Accessories area asking abouth the best type of design for split focusing screens. Thought about some form of magnification too so your thread is timely and I now know - I am not alone. . . :D

This is a wonderful forum with so many helpful members. Thanks all.

What is the best type of focusing screen?

Hi guys and gals;

I have read several threads about the the various focusing screens available, however, most seem to revolve around the vendor (Katz eye, Chinese, Taiwanese, etc)rather than the type or design if you will, of the focus area. Some have a diagonal centre section with and without a grid, some have N***n type designs and there are many other styles as well.

I know a lot of you folks use Manual lenses and my intersst is growing in that area. So to my question, based on all your collective years of experience, what do believe to be the best design of focusing screen (I know Katz Eyes are popular).

I am aiming over time to buy some manual Pentax lenses amd maybe other compatible brands as well. Does one type of screen suit Pentax (K10D) better than others? Or is it best determined by the type/brand of lens?

Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated!!:)
