Using Nikon sb 25 with a Pentax K 3

A flash with an optical slave will fire when it "sees" another flash fire. It doesn't need to be on camera, attached to the camera with a sync cable, or triggered by a radio transmitter.

Filter Brands and Quality

The only filter I use is a variable neutral density filter. I use it for outdoor off camera flash and long exposure waterfall shots. I bought a Hoya, in the bottom third pricewise among the choices at B&H Photo. The quality of this filter has proven to be excellent. IMO you don't necessarily have to pay top dollar to get good quality, but I would stick to well known brand names.

Thanks!

I have in my head a specific idea of what I want the light to look like. This isn't it but it's close, or at least as close as I've gotten so far.

Trade in Tamron 24-135 for Pentax 18-135 ?

As far as I know, the new version of the Tamron 10-24 will not be available in K-mount.

If you decide you want the Tamron 10-24 over the Sigma 10-20 drop me a line, I might be willing to part with mine.

Thanks, it was delicious. One day I came across instructions for using a microwave to make a parmesan cheese bowl, and I needed something to fill the bowl and this is what I came up with.

The two lenses I use most for food photography are the DA 35 and the DA 70 Ltd. They both do a great job.

Here's a couple with the 70:

I see you live in Virginia. Does loco stand for Loudoun County by any chance? If so, I live nearby and I spend a lot of time at Loudoun County wineries. I'd be happy to meet up with you and let you try out a couple of lenses. I have an M 135, an F 35-70, an A 50 f2, and a Sigma 70-300 (not sure if this one is APS-C or 135 format) you could try.

I gave mine a gentle shake (not something I would normally do) and detected a slight rattle front to back but not side to side.

Can't get my lens to 3.8 even though it is a 3.8 -22 lens

Yes, it will, but 3.8 is neither a full stop, half stop, or third stop, so your camera display rounds to the nearest, which is 4.

There's a third choice: Auto thyristor flashes, such as the Nikon SB-25 or SB-26 will work on camera, and can be acquired used for under $100 US.

You should come back! Thomas Jefferson, after all, thought the view of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers coming together was worth a trip across the Atlantic! (And that was no easy trip in those days).

I like the post-processing you did on this image. I live about 15 minutes from Antietam National Battlefield, site of the bloodiest day in American history. I cross Antietam Creek everyday driving to/from work, and frequently think about "the day Antietam Creek turned red".

I checked before posting. Both the HD DA version and the SMC DA-L version of the 18-50 have DC motors. I didn't see any mention of screw drive 18-50s.

OP doesn't need to use the screw drive for the 18-50. The 18-50 is not a screw drive lens, it has a DC motor.

I use DxO as well. It brings out the best in all my lenses, especially the 18-135.

(I don't have a K-S2 so I didn't chime in earlier :) )

Try sticking the corner of an index card or stiff piece of paper into the shutter button and run it around a couple of times. There may be a bit of dirt or something that needs to be dislodged.
