Just to show how ridiculous the 35mm is, this is wide open. My older son just joined scouts, so we picked him up his uniform. I took a bunch of shots at the store only to realize I'd screwed up and left the camera on 200mm so the shake resistance actually killed my shots.

Wound up racing the sunset to get down by the lake here, and I was stuck using on-board flash (something I usually avoid like the plague).

This is f/1.4 (yes, wide open), ISO 3200 1/180 seconds. Bower/Samyang 35mm.

My older kiddo just got his uniform.

While not a sunset picture exactly, it certainly made the shot for me here. Wound up having to resort to on-camera flash, and somehow it worked.

Samyang 35mm @ f/1.4 (Yup, wide open), ISO 3200, 1/180 second

My K-3 grip has died, anyone know how to troubleshoot it?

I'll need to see if I can find the D-Li90 attachemnt - never used it so its been shelved somewhere.

Quick silly question, are the pins supposed to be uneven when its off the camera, or are they supposed to be flat? Mine are all over the place as far as how retracted they are when looking at it.

I haven't tried cleaning. Definitely not backwards batteries (I'm using AA's). I'll have to check the pins more closely, I hadn't considered one may have become bent.

I'd noticed my grip was starting to act up for a while - sometimes it would show the batteries as live, sometimes nothing. This had been going on for quite some time, but usually just taking the batteries out and sticking them back in would solve the issue.

I shelved the grip for a while, just loaded it up with freshly charged batteries, and now its acting as if the batteries are completely dead.

I can still use the buttons on the grip - shutter, focus, etc, its just not detecting it actually has batteries in it.

I looked, I'm not seeing any signs of corrosion anywhere, so all I can figure is its shorting somewhere but I don't really have an idea as to where.

Has anybody else run into this and does anyone know a solution?

Its a 202 lens, which means its probably a Samyang as mentioned above.

The 202's seem to be the generation of Sears lenses after they stopped being made by Tokina. In my experience, the Japanese Tokinas are much better than the Korean 202's, but the 202's also (sometimes) have the auto-aperture availability to them.

I wasn't even aware there *was* a 50mm 202 out there in the wild, so I guess I learned something new today. :)

EDIT: I have the orange and green Chinon 50 - its better than the Ricoh 50's by far.

Old photo is old, but one nifty observation about the various Sears lenses is the fact that the coatings changed color when they jumped from one manufacturer to another, or even one focal length to another.

Don't forget the wider you get, the more specialized your use of the lens becomes. The Samyangs are all pretty much even as far as quality goes, so its more of a choice for which focal length attracts you.

The skies lit up last night. High ISO in order to keep the shutter speed down.

Sammy 35mm @ f/1.7

Just learned that if you forget to switch the lens size., it'll still register the aperture correctly!

My only observation would be your color balance. Correct that and you'd be amazed at the blues and purples that may show up.

If the story I was told is right (I see no reason the guy would lie for $400) it was riding the stereotypes for low mileage cars hard.

Original owner was a priest in Lewiston. He owned it for like 20 years until he died, church inherited the car. Church gave it to an elderly parishioner who basically stuck it in her garage for 5 years, until she died. Church inherited the car a second time.

Previous owner's brother worked for the church, who just wanted to get rid of the damned thing at that point. He basically gave it to his brother (prior owner) at 45,000 miles (6 years ago).

Guy gets a newer car, wife starts getting growly about the old one, so he just needs to get rid of it. I'd spotted the car at $900 a few weeks earlier but passed because it was a 30 year old car. When it dropped to $400 I jumped on it.

My knack for collecting 80's glass has taken a strange turn.

1988 Delta 88, 95,000 original miles. Other than the paint and some rust spots, the car's like new. The motor is almost silent.

$400 - I think I did OK with it.

Sounds about right, except theres no A setting in the picture here - the lens is straight up manual. Whats wobbly is the actual aperture lever sticking out of the mount itself. Its come loose.

I might take it apart if I can get a set of decent jewelers drivers some day. Not so much in hopes of saving it as just out of nosiness at this point.
