Kodak Discontinues slide films :(

I really do hope that isn't true. I first found slide film last June after scoring eight fresh rolls of Boots Colour Slide for just 10p each! I really want to keep shooting slide as long as I can (hopefully around 10 years) as it's just so beautiful!:D

APS-C K5 successor

That would be a nice specs list, but I often wonder whether Sony's 24-megapixel APS-C sensor is something of a step backwards in terms of signal-noise ratio and dynamic range. Samsung also has a record of producing sensors which aren't quite up to the standard of Sony or Canon (smaller R&D budget, I'd expect) particularly when high ISO is concerned. In truth, I'm really hoping that Pentax just fix the known K-5 bugbears with a K-5 Mk.II, and then devote their time and money towards other things, such as DA* lenses or something.

Regards!

HAHA! Same. As soon as I got the April 1st. connection, I took it down pretty sharpish, though!

These rumour-sowers really shouldn't be getting people hopes up, though.:hmm:

I used Fuji Superia 1600, though in hindsight I probably could have got away with the 800 stuff (which is fantastic stock). Thanks so much everybody for your kind words on my pictures! I'll maybe post some more in a little while...:)

Very sad indeed, but this may serve to strengthen Fuji's position, as all the Kodak slide film user will have nowhere to go but Fuji.

This camera is 100,000 times more gorgeous than the K-01, which puts me in mind of that hideous tupperware car the Top Gear bunch built. Consequently, this Olympus deserves to sell 100,000 E-M5's for every K-01.

The K-01 is a VERY ugly camera, and in my opinion, could be something of a deterrent for people looking at the K-mount DSLR system as a whole. I'd love to know why Pentax hired that Marc Newson joker (no doubt at great expense) when they could have been setting to work on that much wanted full frame DSLR, which would actually BOOST Pentax's DSLR credibility, rather than detracting from it.

If Pentax makes just one more stupid gimmicky camera like this one, then say no more, my next DSLR will be a semi-pro Nikon. Simple as that.

I just tried turning off highlight correction...and, err oops! ISOs 80, 125, and 160 are back on my screen. D'oh! Feeling a bit silly now...:o

I'm fairly confident the focus point itself is not misaligned, just the inidcator point, but of course I'll need to check for sure tomorrow in good light. If there's nothing wrong with the focussing itself, I'll just take the camera to my local repair shop and have the focussing screen adjusted. Gives me a chance to buy all the spare lens/body/rear caps I'll no doubt lose throughout 2012.:p

Sorry folks!

Nope! I popped the camera straight into Av mode, have haven't touched anything which would override expanded ISO settings. I presume the misaligned focus point is down to manufacturer error, and I have done nothing to touch or move the focussing screen. I wouldn't dare!

I just got my K-5 today, and my central AF point is displaced by about the same amount, but to the other side (to the right).

Sucks, doesn't it! :(

Hello there!

After many months of fervent saving, and a gift of cash this Christmas, I was delighted this to recieve my brand new Pentax K-5 this morning, in the post from SRS Microsystems. However, on powering up the camera and testing it, two faults soon became very apparent:

Firstly (and perhaps less importantly) the centre AF focus point indicator is slighty misaligned in the viewfinder. It's not misaligned by much, perhaps by about the size of one of the red squares, but it's still immediately appaerent when looking through the viewfinder. It doesn't appear to affect the operation of the camera, though. AF locks on ver quickly and accurately.

The second problem is a lot more concerning (and dissapointing) to me. After familiarising myself with the basic controls of the camera, I set the camera to expanded sensitivity mode (80-51200) and as you'd expect that's the ISO range I got. However, after about forty test shots the ISO inadvertently switched itself from 80 to 160, and will not go any lower. I tried taking the camera out of expanded sensitivity - at which point the minimum ISO becomes 200 - and putting it back again, but it makes no difference, the minimum ISO still remains at 160. This is really dissapointing to me, as that lower stop of sensitivity was really important to me, and a key motivating factor for me to buy the camera in the first place!

What I'm basically wanting to to know is if these problems have been reported by other users, and what tends to cause them? I want something factual to tell the people at the camera shop over the phone, in case they try to be difficult when I ask if I can have my camera repaired.:(

Thank you in advance!

I believe so, yes, and the new Ricoh M-mount module. The 12mp Sony sensor isn't really that old, at all, even in digital camera terms! Besides, isn't the 6mp Sony sensor still being produced for Epson's RD-1x?:)
