Lens search for third-party Pentax lenses! (beta)

This is great, Adam. While I am not likely to be looking for a new lens any time soon, it is a great answer to the "no third-party lenses for Pentax" complaints.

These are all great. Number 6 gets my vote but it was a hard choice.

Interesting history and the rifle looks to be in fine condition. I still have my father's WWII compass (and his medals) and I know a few of the stories there. Last Friday I recorded material for a radio program on his experiences from January 1942 to January 1943 in New Guinea (based around interviews I recorded with him many years ago). It's hard to believe it was only 75 years ago.

Good catch. I like to see wild animals comfortable around our homes. The squirrels might have a qualified view of that though.

Definitely "period". The guy in costume in the 6th is holding a Canon. He is looking down at it as if he is thinking "I wish this was a K-I"! A really interesting set of pics. It is good to remember our history.

Nice shot which captures the mood. I see the inside walls still retain their mud render and there is still a bit of mud above the doorway. I would guess it was all mud rendered once and it was probably a fairly comfortable (for the times) little house in its day.

Welcome to the Forums, but you have not attached your pic. You need to upload to an album on the Forums and insert it in your post or embed a link to something like Flickr.

Great shot of a lovely little bird. They sit on our grape vine and look in the kitchen window. If I cleaned the window I could probably get a shot. But I doubt if I could match yours.

I hope Ricoh/Pentax are not reading this thread. At 68 I am starting to get the idea that I am one of the youngest here and the popular view is that the K-3 will see us out. Maybe they will stop development and cut their losses.:lol::lol:

I can't see a need to upgrade. But only this week I realized that Pentax digital is only about 20 years old. Who knows what kind of quantum leap will change what we do and how we do it. I bought my MZ-5n when I reasoned that it would be quite a while before digital overtook film. So who knows what might turn up and whether I could afford it.

Did you do this just to stir us up, Kerrowdown? It's more like some form of mallee gum - an Australian interloper. I don't recognize the thin, clumpy leaves but it may be from down south or Western Australia.

It works well. Nice silhouettes in shades of grey and an orange orb for a focal point makes a great shot.

There are economics of scale issues for a third party manufacturer to turn out AF lenses for Pentax. But there are lots of choices from Samyang. Mitakon ZhongYi and Laowa. They may not be AF but they seem to be very good at what they are designed for. Also there are all the backwards compatible Pentax lenses and all the old M42 lenses kicking around. Because Pentax has in-body SR, you get SR with any lens. Also, for what they can do, Pentax bodies stack up well against the competition. They are probably not reasons for a professional photographer to switch to Pentax but I think they are part of the reason that people don't leave!

I have compared the Cosmicar-Pentax 8-48mm f1.0-1.2 with the Pentax 06 (see link) and found it quite acceptable. Despite a comment that it would be only good for a 1/2.3" sensor the image would cover a 2/3" sensor by my measurement. I seems to be just over 12mm which fits a 1/2 inch designation on the box.

You had a very good eye for this shot. Amazingly sharp considering the wide aperture and low light.

Thanks for this link (and all the work). I sit in the camp that says digital pics are easy to take but the mechanics (if I may call them that) are very complex. Your site is a great resource for adding to my store of knowledge and the way I make comparisons which are relevant to me. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with you (or me) is irrelevant
