Full-frame lens on a crop body not advisable?

Aside from extra weight, as long as you know what you are doing there is no real downside to using a FF lens on a crop body.

Pentax FA 35 f2 vs Sigma 35 Art 1.4

I've not had an opportunity to use the Sigma, but I had the FA 35/2 and it was practically glued to my camera ... at least until I picked up the FA 31 Ltd.

Do you still use a hand held light meter when shooting with a Pentax DSLR?

Rarely for digital, but yes for film, in particular a Crown Graphic 4x5, it's pretty much required for that.

Velvia ... unless you are shooting portraits, in which case Portra 800 ... unless you want B&W, in which case Tri-X ... unless you want chromorgenic B&W, in which case Ilford XP2 .

Ilford Pan F and FP4 are also excellent B&W films.

Just my 2 cents. :)

FA 120 4 macro vs FA 150 2.8 vs ?

I can honestly say no, I've never missed it. The FA 120mm is one of two lenses for the 645 that are "must-haves" for me, the other being the FA 35mm. The FA 150mm is a fine lens and worth having, but if I had to choose between it and the 120mm, I'd pick the 120mm.

I have both and if I had to choose only one it certainly would be the FA 120mm. It's sharpness is outstanding and it's bokeh pleasing enough for me.

K1 Lens Choice: 43mm? 28-120? Some other normal lens?

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the K or A 50mm f/1.2. Legends surrounding them are of mythic proportion!

Perhaps you are looking for something actually in production, though? I have there 43mm Ltd, it's a wonderful lens on the K-1. Not the fastest lens in the bag, of course, but it really is a fine performer on many fronts--sharpness, color, bokeh.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I was finally able to loosen the grip using the method of a thin cloth and flathead screwdriver.

Battery grip stuck

I find myself faced with an odd problem--I cannot remove the battery grip from my K3. I took the K3 to a model rocketry launch today and had success getting the images I wanted, but now I can't get the battery grip off the camera. It was warm this afternoon--well into the 90s--and now, much cooler, I can't get the grip off the camera. It was only finger-tight when I put it on the body but now it simply will not come off, I can't move the dial even a millimeter. Any suggestions are welcome.

Get the FA 31mm Ltd and you may never touch the FA 28mm again. I kid you not.

I got mine used about ten years ago, also about $400. It was (and still is) in excellent shape, not a mark on it.

Source for FA* 600 polarizer?

Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably affordable source for the drop-in polarizer for the FA* 600mm? (Pentax part number 35184.)

I attempted to purchase one about 2 months ago from World Link Japan but it never arrived. Googling for it only seems to turn up places that seem dubious or sketchy.

Are thinking of just head shots or head+shoulders shots? For head+shoulders I think you'll want the shorter length of the DA*55, especially indoors. For just head shots I think you could use any of the three you mentioned.

Pentax is advertising again!

Oddly, I've see one quite frequently, just not in an ad for Pentax. It's an ad for a tripod and, although not prominent, the camera on the tripod is clearly a Pentax 645.

Oh, most definitely true! The problem is that if even if you start with pure water, once your equipment is in it it won't stay pure.

Personally I am not quite that hard-core--I do have liquid cooling on my CPU and GPU but they are commercial all-in-one loop units.

I think that's more likely mineral oil than water being used as an immersive coolant.
