I thing the quite well known source on ebay.com is the better one for people in USA and Canada.

Or to get them from a damaged *ist/K10/100/20/200D or a K2000/K x

Or MZ5/6/7 but those can have opposite polarisation so one has to switch cables for correct plus and minus! (not MZ5n, nor 30/60)"

Hi Photogem,

My post was in response to Perlblau saying he was looking for a white solenoid in Germany.

Like other posters can I thank you for all the advice you have given on this topic (and thanks to the other posters too)? You have inspired me to fix my K50 and I took it apart two days ago (successfully) and am now waiting for a small (15watt) soldering iron to arrive from ebay.

I have had the white solenoid (from USA) since October. That's October 2017!!! I am almost ashamed to admit it! Too frightened to screw up my camera completely by doing it wrong.

The K50 is back-up to my K30 (still going strong, touch wood). Built in February 2015, I bought it used in April 2016, with about 700 shutter actuations. It started to give the odd black frame in June 2017 and failed in September 2017 (every frame black). Approximately 2,800 actuations.

By the way, this week I ordered a blue solenoid as a spare for the future (for the K30), about 15 minutes before I read your comment not to buy a blue one, as the impedance is wrong!

Never mind, when it arrives it will be good for practising my soldering!

Thanks again.

Walter

Hi Jim. Many thanks for your prompt response, please accept my apology for my tardy reply! (Christmas, etc!)
When posting my question last week, a question popped up asking whether I wanted to start a new thread, as this was quite an old one, however I thought it would save people referring my back to this thread.
Since getting my K30 some weeks ago, I have purchased several old 'legacy' lenses and have enjoyed playing with them and learning about focus peaking with my K30. My idea was that for subjects which can't or won't remain still (such as grandchildren), or just people in general in lowlight situations, an auto-focus fast lens might be helpful.
I subsequently decided I had been a good boy all year and have just bought myself a 'near mint' FA 50 f1.4, for £195 ($290). Not cheap, but listed new at around £325 ($485). Fortunately I have just sold some of my archery equipment, so writing a cheque for £195 didn't hurt quite so much!

My new lens arrived on Christmas Eve and I have to say I am very happy with it. I know these are early days, but the auto-focus seems to work well with my K30, I just need to get out more and use it.

With my 2 kit lenses, a Tamron AF18-200 F3.5-6.3XR, my legacy lenses and my new AF 50 f1.4, I don't think I will be buying any new lenses for a while. (Although I do have more archery equipment for sale, so you never know!)
Merry Christmas.
Walter

Just got a K30 with 18-55 WR and 50-200WR kit lenses, after years of using an ME Super. Amongst my old lenses I have M-50 F1.7 and A-50 F1.7, which are fun to use, but as focusing is tricky in dim light, thought I might go for an autofocus lens.
With a used FA 50 costing about 21/2 to 3 times what the DA 50 costs (here in the UK), is the extra f-stop worth it?
