Who is becoming nervous after the K5 vs. the D7000 announcement?

I've thoroughly enjoyed my Pentax K10D and the 30,000 exposures we have been through together. The K-5 looks mighty tempting. The only thing that put me off initially was the reported price tag of $1699. Now whether this price is MSRP or street price makes no difference thanks to the arrival of the Nikon D7000, whose street price will START at $1199. I don't believe the management of Hoya/Pentax are stupid. If they have any firing neurons, they will make sure the K-5 is competitively priced with the D7000. We will all benefit. I anticipate that by the time DPReview and many Pentaxians have reviewed the K-5, the price will be somewhere in the ballpark of $1199 to $1299. If the reviews are favorable, I for one will gladly purchase the K-5 in this price range.

if the D7000 is spec'd/priced as rumored

It is fact, not faith, that the retail price of the D7000 is $1199, at least according to DPReview and Amazon.com. I do have great faith, however, that the retail price of the K-5 is going to be slashed because of this competition.:)

Thank your lucky stars for the Nikon D7000, which has a retail price of $1199. Based on the specs of these cameras, a fair retail price for the K-5 is going to have to come down to around $1299.:)

That is what I consider a fair price based on the specs of the Nikon D7000, which will sell for retail of $1199.

I believe the estimated retail price of the K-5 is currently $1699. The retail price of the Nikon D7000 is $1199 (body only). Pentax must cut the price of the K-5 by many hundreds. Thank you, Nikon, for providing awesome competition! Our bank accounts will be a little less empty after the purchase of a K-5.

Will Pentax compete against Micro 4/3's?

I certainly hope Pentax will NOT try to compete in the 4/3 market. I would much rather see Pentax enter the FF market, so at least many older Pentax lenses could be used with it.

I just received a 50mm f1.4 and 135mm f3.5 Super Takumars and I am awaiting arrival of the m42 to K mount adapter (for my K10D). Your photos are inspiring and I hope to be able to add a few soon.

645D lost the competition

The 645D has 11.5 stops of DR compared to Mamiya's 12 stops. That is probably due to the difference between 14 bit color and 16 bit color. That being said, I don't believe you would be able to tell the difference in a photograph any smaller than BILLBOARD size. If this trivial difference allows Pentax to sell the camera for less than HALF the price of the Mamiya, then Pentax has displayed genius in its strategy.:D

Thank you, Ben. I'm learning something new each time I use the lens, so my photos do not adequately demonstrate just how good this lens is . I will be a happy camper if my skill one day can match the capabilities of this lens.

Focus is fast and quieter than a whisper. No BF FF issues.

The Bokeh is not bad either:

They were originally shot in PEF then converted to JPEG in Photoshop Elements 5. I apparently processed the two photos of the iris somewhat differently. I used mild sharpening (60, 1) on all images.
