Hi all!

I managed to get out a bit in Hong Kong yesterday. Part of Hong Kong I've never visited. Both of these were taken with my K-1 Mark II and my 43mm limited...

God and Buddha statues in Wah Fu (there are hundreds of statues; tradition says a graveyard was moved and some people drowned nearby afterwards so people started placing statues to sooth the spirits):

Beautiful shots. I especially like the isolation in #5, but all are lovely. I was admiring the shots and had to scroll back up to see what lens you used. Not at all surprised! I have some ibis shots that I took in Florida with my DA*300. What a lens.

Thanks for all the comments!

There are certainly plenty of mobile phones there now! But I agree that people should be required to travel outside their home countries. Maybe before they're allowed to vote!

Some do, though they aren't as strict with the number of rings (which used to be fairly regimented).

I created an album in my Flickr account. You should be able to see it here: Myanmar | Flickr
Otherwise just navigate to my account (xtimwilsonx) and you'll find it there.

Have a great weekend!

I visited Myanmar over my Christmas/New Year's break. Lovely place - friendly people, good food, beautiful scenery etc. I took a lot of photos. Here are some of my favorites. For anyone thinking about a trip there I highly recommend it. As usual I agonized over which lenses to bring and in the end I brought my 15mm Ltd., 43mm Ltd., 70mm Ltd., 100mm WR Macro and DA*300 (no zooms!). I used all of them and didn't regret any of my packing decisions!

User Blacknight659 has a great post on this site about screw-drive conversion, and the post also includes a link to PKTether via a Google Drive. I downloaded it from there about 3 weeks ago and successfully modified my DA*300. It was very quick and easy.

Hi all. I spent 10 days in Myanmar over the Christmas/New Year break and took a lot of photos. Still going through them, but here are a few from the Inle Lake area.

- The first photo is of a young Kayan woman. The rings on her neck are actually a single, solid coil made of brass. It is shockingly heavy! I think a full set weighs something like 10kg.
- The second photo is a monastery on Inle Lake.
- The third photo is of some people riding a long-tail boat in Nyaungshwe (connected to the lake by a long cut). The boats are long and narrow and are usually powered by an old and extremely loud Chinese diesel engine. The ones made for tourists feature chairs, life vests and blankets, but the locals sit on the floor of the boat...

I visit a nature preserve in Florida once or twice a year as it's a fabulous place to get pictures of ospreys, ibises, roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets etc. For me it's a special experience, but for many people it's just their normal dog-walking, biking and jogging park and they pay little heed to the birds, crabs, lizards etc. Quite often while I'm enjoying the peace and quiet and watching for birds a pair of joggers will run by yakking at a high volume and seemingly oblivious to their surroundings. It's a bummer, but it's a multi-use park and at least it isn't a parking lot or a trailer park or a vacant McMansion...

That is a stunning photo of the frozen falls!

Welcome to the forum. I have a similar story. I bought a Ricoh KR-5 in 1980 or 1981 (wish I still had it). My wife bought me an Olympus Camedia C-700 for Christmas in 2001. We went to Tuscany that spring and my son was born in the fall, so the camera got quite a lot of use. In 2008 I was ready to upgrade and bought my K200D at a duty-free shop at Incheon airport in Seoul. Upgraded to a K5 in 2012 and a K-1 Mark II in 2018.

This forum is a fantastic place to learn about photography, cameras and lenses and to just share photos and experiences with people around the globe. It's probably largely responsible for getting me hooked on photography and Pentax.

My DA*300 stopped focusing back in March. I had it repaired by the local authorized Pentax repair shop (Jebsen, in Hong Kong) and it worked for about 6 months and then died. I used the lens only lightly during that period and the lens has been treated well. I think the repair was not up to snuff and I've contacted Jebsen to see what, if anything, they will do for me. In the meanwhile, I have a trip to Myanmar coming up and couldn't stand the idea of having to manually focus (the last failure was just before I went to Australia for two weeks - splendid timing!). I followed the steps here (using my K5) and am happy to say that in about 10 minutes, and with no wrong turns or "oh shit" moments, I successfully converted to screw-drive. The lens is shockingly loud (well, I'm used to it being silent) but it works like a charm. Thanks to Blacknight659 and all the others who contributed to this long, informative thread!

By the way, the pktether.com site is current non-extant so I downloaded from the Google drive provided in the original post. I also used the Notepad program already resident on my PC (I have a Windows 10 PC).
