My condolences to the lady's family and loved ones.

I agree with ZombieArmy. To quote Bilbo, "It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to".

My favorite hikes have always been off the beaten path. No railing, or fence, or signs to warn of the dangers (that should be obvious anyway). It's also possible, with the right lens, and a good angle to get a picture that looks much scarier than it really is.

Great idea for a thread I'll have to see what I can come up with. Pictures would be great too. I love food pictures, my wife calls it food p0rn, LOL.

I miss Rupert... My real first name is Rupert and I always felt a connection.

DA 300 F4 autofocus not working

That's a great suggestion!

After sitting for 6 or 8 months my DA300 autofocus (which previously had been fine) wouldn't work. I tried cleaning the contacts, moving the auto/manual switch, and also switching to live view. At first, in live view the focus would work intermittently but the more I used it the better it got. Eventually I switched back to the viewfinder and, again, at first, it only worked intermittently but eventually it started working reliably.

Great shot. I was familiar with the term and have seen it a couple of times skiing.

So sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved schnauzer Tulu three years ago very unexpectedly. It's always sad to lose a pet but losing one suddenly is especially painful.

I'm not constantly searching for camera bags but I do keep my eye open for deals here. For example I have a Lowepro 17L (for $17) and a 35L for about the same price.

I bought a K-50 (my first DSLR), rather than a Canon or Nikon, so I could use all my old M series lenses that I purchased back in the 80s with my Pentax ME. I don't use them a lot but they are fun and add an extra dimension to my photography. You should check out this thread, The M Club

Thanks Adam. I don't know how I missed that.

I got an email notification for the contests in July and September but not August or October. I was really disappointed to miss August since BIF photography is my favorite. Life has gotten in the way of my photography recently and I'm trying to get more active by posting in the contests, but life has gotten in the way of that too (sigh). I keep hoping though...

Again thanks!

Wow, I'm jealous. I've spent a lot of time in the backcountry but never seen one. Even higher on my list would be a Fisher but at my age I'm not optimistic of checking either off my bucket list.

My contribution isn't nearly as exciting but they are furry and aren't squirrels...
