Touristy lens: DA 16-45 mm F4 vs. DA 21 mm F3.2 Ltd

A vote for the DA 16-45 here. It's truly a superb lens for the money, plus it has macro like close focusing. If it is too big I would definitely look into the DA 35 LTD, it's a small wonder in it's own right.

DA70 ltd or DA35 ltd

Maxwell hits the nail right on the head about the DA35 as a great walkabout prime, it usually leaves my K20D. However the DA70 is one helluva lens in it's own right tho! For portraiture work it's a stunning lens and very portable to carry around (I do miss that!) I replaced mine with the DA* 50-135mm only b/c I needed a little more versatility for portraiture work.

As stated above, buy both if you can.

K-7 replace K20d? or not?

Something to me just doesn't feel like this is the replacement for the K20d, I feel as if Pentax was going after the Olympus E-30 and the Nikon D90 with the K7D.

Poll: When, and if, do you plan on to purchase the new K?

If the price is right, then I will purchase in the fall. Only if there's a huge spec/performance upgrade to my K20D. Other wise, I will purchase another K20D as planned during this time.

Anyone else have this DA* 50-135mm problem?

This thread is concerning, as I just received mine this past friday. I have not had any problems with my K20D. However, using it with the kenko pz-af 1.5x teleplus shq teleconverter is another story. I did not have alot of time to test it this weekend, but when I did try it. There was a serious problem with autofocus locking in. Not sure what I am going to do with that issue, but other than that. I have been pretty happy.

If it were not for my DA 35 LTD, then this lens would almost never leave my K20D. As mentioned before, it is surprisingly good at close focusing work.

If you search on ebay, there's a brand new one going for under $200 right now from a reputable U.S. dealer.

$1600.00?? Did I convert the price correctly for this lens from babelfish? If so, I guess that I will opt for the DA*200 for my distant portrait needs. Wow!

DA 35 Limited - Filter Incompatibility

I don't know if this still applies, but I have the hoya hmc uv filter always on my DA 35LTD which allows for me to use it with the original cap attached. The trick I later found out is to pull the lens hood out just enough to cover the filter itself and you will be able to use your original cap with the filter.

Hope this helps,

Theory on DA 35mm ltd 'greatest lens ever' (?) tag

I can't figure out why this lens would spark up so much controversy? I'm on the side of fence that really likes this lens for what it is - it's a very good walk-around lens that can produce some excellent images. Besides, tagging a lens the greatest of all time is subjective to the beholder of that lens any ways.

One of the found benefits that I have come across between the two, is how much sharper the 16-45 is at closer distances than that of the original kit lens. Btw, the 16-45 focuses really close to your subject - like 4-5 inches away. There was a post somewhere on here that stated the 16-45 as a macro. Don't know when I read this but there were pretty good points to consider in that post.

Diego, your food photography shots are very inspiring! I have a product shot session coming up here in a few weeks for a local catering service. I have been researching night and day through various mags, and food photographer's blogs for inspiration. I can tell you that your work can hold it's own against all of the material that I have seen thus far.

K20D - memory card problem

I remember this when I first purchased my K20D. I also recall taking that pos ADATA card and tossing it into a brick wall as well. Once I purchased a Transcend 8GB SDHC, then two 8GB Sandisk Extreme SDHC cards, I have not had a problem! It only takes once to learn your lesson on cheapo cards.

Yeah, this lens is off and on my want list. It seems everytime I am ready to spend the money for it, I come across something that tells me not to buy it. Oh well I have no spending money for lenses right now but will be able to start looking again in a month or two. Just have to see where I am at, b/c I know that I want this lens.

You have 3 fantastic choices that could easily do the task at hand. The only problem that I see with those choices is that the Tamron is not that wide, I would probably look to replace it as a choice with the Tamron 17-50mm or the Sigma 18-50mm. Both of which should be more of a comparison with the other two on your list. I know that the DA* is weather sealed, but just as the poster previous poster said - use a plastic bag to help against moisture.
