D FA 21 Limited is one of the three.

The DFA 21 LTD will be a must have for every K-1 user. The fact they are finally moving in this direction is a plus plus.

From the images it does appear it will be ƒ 4. The pictures also show infinity focus is everything beyond 2 feet/1.3 Meters. This nature to UWA lens they could have used a simple screw drive instead of focus motor. Especially if the screw drive where to make the lens smaller and less expensive. As long as this lens has Quickshift focus it doesn't really matter what type of autofocus they use since infinity focus is so short there never really is that much focusing going on.

Now we know what the past lens roadmaps were hinting at for the UWA D FA. There still is the large aperture WA to fill. A great candidate would be a compact DFA 28mm ƒ2 LTD WR. 28mm matches well for APS-C.

A simple articulating screen certainly makes things easier when shooting lower and higher subjects hand held. A simple tilt screen like the MX-1 digital has wouldn't hurt this new body. I have often taken advantage of the K-1 articulating screen but it does make the K-1 bigger than it already is.

Shooting from a tripod using a smart device works even better than an articulating screen. With the device controlling the camera for Macro work you don't ever have to touch the camera while making the exposure. The lack of an articulating screen isn't without a substitute but still doesn't make up for such handheld capture.

This is great news for the future OVF. If they can revamp the APS-C OVF as such the next FF viewfinder hopefully will see the same improvement.

The best news of all is the D-FA 21 LTD. From the size it may be ƒ 2.8. Still to come is the D-FA large aperture wide angle per the lens roadmap. A compact D-FA 28mm ƒ2 LTD WR should be a good candidate for the comments the interviewer asked about future more compact lenses. 28mm fits well for both FF and APS-C. If the D-FA 21 LTD is ƒ3.2 or ƒ 4 and the larger size is due to the focus motor I would rather see a smaller lens with screw drive.

K1 shutter not responsively in manual focus mode?

pschlute if you own a K-1 it suffers from Early Shutter penalty. It's as simple as that.

---------- Post added 12-02-19 at 07:28 PM ----------

buittospill it is a real thing this Early Shutter Penalty. It causes me to miss images all the time. I am never half pressing. 99% of the time all my parameters are set were all I have to do is press the shutter. No focusing etc. Unfortunately in single shot mode the adjustment to my workflow has been a lot of missed images not necessarily that it misfires every time but knowing to keep it from misfiring I can not press the shutter to fast which results in missed opportunities of its own.

But in general when ever I use my K-1 I manage to trip up the Early Shutter Penalty. I am only ever trying to take 3 images in succession. What I was used to with every other Pentax DSLR I had owned before the K-1 getting those three images was 123. The K-1 is more like 1..2..3.

It is not a "perceived" problem. I experience this problem every time I use my K-1. I don't have to point to any thread to validate what I experience. I raised this issue here at PF when I first purchased my K-1 were I was told by users that I am not using the camera properly when it turns out that it has nothing to do with how I use the camera but is a drawback with the camera itself. I went from the K-5 which does not suffer from Early Shutter Penalty to the K-1 so I noticed it right away.

Whether you want to acknowledge this limitation of the K-1 or not it exists. I pointed to the review of the K-1MKII at Imagine-Resources where they point it out to avoid this very issue of people jumping in claiming somehow I am making something up. The Early Shutter Penalty problem of the K-1 isn't something I am claiming it is a matter of fact i.e. not my opinion. Whether 99% of people using the K-1 realize it or not the K-1 suffers from Early Shutter Penalty. It may explain to some user who do shoot in Single Shot mode why the K-1 often doesn't release the shutter when you press the shutter button while shooting consecutive images. I didn't understand what was happening until I finally saw the Imagining-Resource review explaining exactly what was causing the problem I was experiencing. It wasn't what I was doing it was a limitation of the camera.

It is a major problem because it affects 100% of K-1's whether the users are aware of it or not.

---------- Post added 11-27-19 at 10:40 AM ----------

The user until now didn't say whether or not they were using Single Shot mode which is why I brought up the Early Shutter Penalty problem as what they described was happening i.e. pressing the shutter release and nothing happens is the affect of Early Shutter Penalty.

---------- Post added 11-27-19 at 10:50 AM ----------

Be aware then if and when you do use single shot mode and sometimes when you press the shutter button and the shutter doesn't release it's the affect of the Early Shutter Penalty of the K-1.

It's not odd. The K-1 suffers from the Early Shutter Penalty when shooting in Single Shot mode. I noticed this the first time I used the K-1 back in 2016. And it is a major problem for the K-1 in Single shot mode because it results in missed images. It happens whenever I use the K-1. Just because people haven't noticed it doesn't mean they haven't experienced it. Most likely they are not even aware of this problem in Single Shot mode.

The reason I brought it up to the OP is what they described sounds exactly like the Early Shutter Penalty problem in Single Shot mode.

If you are shooting in Single Shot mode what you may be experiencing is Early Shutter Penalty as described in the Performance section of Imaging-Resources K-1MKII review.

This is a major problem shooting the K-1 in Single-Shot mode.

The Samsung engineers knew what they were doing. Sad the executives were so corrupt it shut the whole thing down. Along with the Quad Core Processor to handle the 28mp sensor to deliver everything they wanted out of it in particular 4k video they needed the support and leverage of the thing apparently can no longer be mentioned you know i.e. it starts with U and ends with II. :^)

The KP in 2018 did have what you claim is needed. The KP had new sensor new electronics including the Accelerator Unit. The one thing it lacks is UHS-II which is, IMHO, the sole reason the specs against the XT-2 are so poor. The XT-2 clears the full buffer of 22 RAW files in 5 to 7 seconds. They are clearing that fast due to the UHS-II bus. The K-3II is even a better comparison as buffer size holds the same amount of files. The reason the K-3II takes so long to clear the "buffer" compared to the XT-2 is the limitation of the UHS-I bus.

swanlefitte why don't you compare the K-3II or the KP with the Fujifilm X-T 2. I did after all point to both Samsung and Fuji as using UHS-II since 2014.

These are very similar cameras with 24mp sensor all released relatively at the same time. The K-3II and KP don't even come close to the numbers the XT-2 delivers due to the UHS-II bus in the XT-2.

Show how the GRIII is writing as fast as the NX1? It doesn't fit the narrative because the GRIII performance specs are not even close to what the NX1 delivers.

This is completely misleading statement. It only addresses how UHS-I and UHS-II SD cards perform in the NX1's UHS-II bus. This in no way means there is no difference between what a camera delivers using UHS-II bus over UHS-I. The specs of the NX1 proves that. A comparison of the specs of the NX1 and the KP shows what a camera using UHS-II and UHS-I deliver. People using the KP for action photography would welcome the NX1 specs.

The main reason the NX1 and NX500 had such great specs beyond the 28mp sensor which is excellent was Samsung used UHS-II. That was back in 2014. There would have been no 4K video, fps with 28mp sensor etc without it. Fuji also in 2014 used USH-II in the release of the XT-1. The reviews of these cameras reflect the advantage UHS-II brings in performance and responsiveness etc. The DPR review of the XT-1 points this out.

The main reason Samsung shut down the camera division was the on going corruption charges with senior executives. The camera division was a victim of the ongoing scandal.

Like I said you should just move on to another brand. If you can not avoid touching the moving focusing ring during autofocus using a non-QuickShift lens how will you manage using QuickShift lenses? It will be unbearable for you to use a QuickShift lenses in AF because you will always be inadvertently changing focus by always touching the focus ring.

The PF unofficial testing says the vignetting happens wide open at 1.4. How many stops down that it goes away isn't clear to me. PF gives it an A rating beyond wide open. Those three K-1 DA*55 user reviews all say don't use the hood which is the reason the hood should be made to be usable on the K-1. Best case the lenses itself should be made to not vignette on the K-1 at all. Ricoh/Pentax just "tweaked" the hood on the DA10-17 to work better with the K-1 so let's hope they will eventually do the same for the DA*55.

I have considered this lenses except for these problems which has held me off from getting it. It is good to know that outside wide open which I will most likely never be photographing at the DA*55 is excellent on FF. I think 55mm serves well for both FF and APS-C.

Ricoh/Pentax revamping the DA10-17 is the right step for the road map. I don't think the revamp of the FA35 was the right direction. Revamping the DA35 to work on FF that would be the right direction. Ricoh/Pentax should have one lens line that works both on FF and APS-C. Obviously the extreme wide angle is the exception. Still the DA14 is a probable candidate for "revamping" to FF.

What is the point to this post Mistral that I am wrong which some how makes you right? Someone who post's here like they are in the know and an expert you don't sound like it when you act like UHS-II isn't important. So you don't think Ricoh/Pentax should fix the hood on the DA*55 so it doesn't vignette on FF?

Seriously folks do you really want better equipment? Everything seems to be an argument against that. Right because UHS-II is so not needed.
