Are we really THAT rare?

My first SLR was a used ME Super that I found in a photo store back in 1990, I believe. I had no relation to camera brands back then, and there were a lot more different brands then than now, so it was just a coincidence that I bought a Pentax.

The 28 mm that came with it was a bit too wide for my taste, so I bought a 20-80 zoom and later a Tokina 70-210. I used the camera for a few years, but lost interest and put it away. Then in the 2000's I started shooting again. The ME Super broke down, so I 'upgraded' to an LX. In 2008 the USD was really cheap, so I bought a 50/1.4 and a 120/2.8 from KEH.

Now when I've gone digital, the natural choice was Pentax, or there really was no alternative. None of the other brands tempted me. I bought a K20D with a Sigma 70-200 for cheap, then later bought a K-5IIs, and a bunch of lenses.

So to summarise, me being a pentaxian is just pure luck. If I'd found a Nikon back then, I could might as well have been a Nikon guy. If it'd been a Minolta, maybe Sony now. 😳

It doesn't look exactly like a negative, more like one colour has dropped out somehow.

And imagine having more than one camera body, and being able to copy user settings between them! (Provided both/all bodies are of the same model, or the settings are interchangable between models)

Yeah, maybe writing it to the card shouldn't be an option, but rather transfer to a computer (or even mobile phone) via USB/wifi/bluetooth?

Also, it would be nice to have the settings saved to a file that you could review and edit in Notepad++. It'd give a better overview than diving into menus, + you could exchange settings with other users.

I believe they're saving the best parts for the actual release. What we've seen so far are about details that may would've been overlooked by the press when they release the camera.

Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

I'm told that many bands in England tried to avoid the release dates of The Beatles when they released their own albums, so they didn't drown in the hype. I heard a story of one band that released their debut album on the same day as The Beatles released one of theiralbums, and they went completely under the radar of the record buying audience. They broke up the band soon after.

The same applies to Ricoh, I believe. If they release the K-new at the wrong moment, the release will drown in the hype around a new wonder from Canikony.

In the sixties it was not a smart move to release an album at the same time as The Beatles released theirs.

It would definitely need a tripod collar, then. I have the 200/2.5, and even that's slightly bigger than the M* 300, and quite a lot heavier. A tripod collar on that lens would be nice.

I've taken the 'job' of shooting the various kids' football teams in our sports club when we're out on tournaments, and the one shot I like most is of one of the boys running with the ball and his parents cheering in the background, slightly blurred, but not more than that you can clearly see their expression.

Camera Gear for multi day hikes

If the camera feels like an extra weight when you're on a hike, you should try the Peak Design Camera Clip: Capture Camera Clip | Peak Design Official Site

I bought one this spring, and it feels like the camera doesn't add any weight to the backpack. The camera is firmly attached to the shoulder strap on the backpack, and it's easy to release for a quick snapshot.

Another option is the B-grip Camera Holster: The BH Camera Holster | b-grip

Not as compact as the Peak Design option, but I believe it is a very useful option as well.

When I bought my first digital, I already had an A 28/2.8, an M 50/1.4 and an M 120/2.8. On the 28, the aperture lever somehow stopped working, so that's not in use any more, but the other two I still use, although I have two DA 18-55's (came with the cameras I bought), a DA* 16-50 and a DA* 50-135 in the focal range those manual lenses are covering. The modern zooms are convenient, but those old, manual lenses still gives me joy when using them, and really good pictures. In addition they are very compact, so the camera is easier to carry.

I don't worry so much about the crop factor. Going from analogue to digital I still find the 50 a useful focal length, and the 120 is perhaps my favourite lens now. I've found i to be a perfect lens for taking candid portraits of my kids. With a 'shorter' lens I need to get closer, and then the 'magic of the moment' I want to catch may get disturbed. Besides, it's built-in hood is a piece of genius! I pull it out while taking off the lens cap in one grip, and am ready to shoot.

Welcome to the forum! Like jatrax said, your old Pentax lenses work fine on modern DSLR's. If you have an A lens or an F/FA lens, you just set the aperture ring to 'A', and you adjust the aperture like on any DA or D-FA lens.

If you have an M or K lens, you won't be able to adjust aperture via the e-dials, and the camera won't read the aperture from the lens, so you'll have to do it all manually. But hey! I can do it, so anybody can!

My K20D (used) came with a 512 MB card in it. It held 24 exposures before it was full, so it was like shooting film. The only difference was that there was no way I could stretch it to 25-26 exposures.
