Sorry for not reposting as of yet. Thanks for the 1-800 #'s. I'll have to start calling tomorow after the holiday. I still do have the box that the body came in. The rebate form said nothing about which UPC to submit.

Whatever you do, don't plan on getting a rebate from Pentax. I sent everything they asked for along with the rebate form and they would not honor it.

I just got a card in the mail saying my rebate on my recent K200D purchase from Amazon is not being honored. It says that:

"1. You did not submit a UPC or the UPC submitted was not valid"

Well, I did send the UPC from the kit box.

"2. One or more of the products submitted was invalid or the required product was not purchased."

Well, I did purchase the K200d. And I have no idea why it would not be valid. I sent in everything that was asked for on the rebate form. So just how do I go about getting the rebate that is due to me?

What is it about all the people upgrading from Canon P&S to the K200D? I'm in the same boat. I have had Canon P&S for years and don't think anybody makes finer P&S Digcams. But the Pentax DSLR's make thier Consumer DSLR bodies feel like toys.

I don't have a pile as of yet. Less than 200 total. This is my first DSLR. From my film days (10-20 years ago) I had a 28,50,and a 135 in my bag. I as remember the 28 was the least used of the three. I do realize the short end of the 28-75 is longer than 28 in film.

The speed of the kit is not what I desire for my main lens. I am really looking for a sharp/fast lens that I can keep on my body for the majority of my shots. I would agree with the need for a wide zoom as well. As I will need a min. of three lens, I was thinking that the main 28-75 tammy (or other) and a long solution 55-300 (or other)would have to do for now. The keeper of the funds isn't real happy about even that. Then, maybe next year I could replace the kit with a 12-24 or 10-20. I also think that I would replace my M50 with another AF 50 in the future as well.

I am also considering the 17-70. But, I am not real keen on the variable app i.e. 2.8-4. Looks like the sig 17-35 is that way also. Maybe it's not that big of a deal.

I am searching out the options for a replacement for my kit lens and trying to figure out which lens that will complete my Pentax system. If I would go with the Tamron Macro SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD as my main lens what would be a good low cost wide solution? I was thinking maybe just keep the 18-55 kit to fill in the wide void. Here's what I am thinking for the short term:

DA 18-55 II
Tamron Macro SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD
DA 55-300
Tamron 90 macro

I am just not sure that all that many of my shots will require a wide solution. Do you guys find that the 28 on the short end is a pain that requires changing lens often?

Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 EX DC

I'm looking for a replacement for my current kit lens. It seems that the Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 is well received. My question is that there seems to be 2 models of this lens. One has semi macro and the other does not. Other that the macro is the IQ the same between the two? There is quite a price difference between the two.
Amazon.com: Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 EX DC Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo
Amazon.com: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC SLD ELD Aspherical Macro Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

The macro would be nice. But I will probably add a Tamron 90 macro to my collection in the future. WDO

"....Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5"

I friend of mine that is a Pro has had his hands on one of these in another mount. I'm not sure if it was a production model or not. He did some testing with it and was very impressed.

All I have so far is the 18-55 II kit lens , 135M, and a 50 1.7M. I want to get a decent long zoom (I'm thinking the DA55-300). I think my next purchase will be a good Macro (the Sig 70 or the Tammy 90). So I hope this long zoom will work for the short term. My hope is to get a few months out of it then move it so I can get the DA 55-300 or something comparable. WDO

Going to Purchase K200D Kit...

I just got the k200d kit myself. It came with the II kit lens. I have been looking at longer glass myself. I am going with the DA 55-300. The postings I have seen is that it is much better than the DA50-200. And it is way better than the third party 70-xx offerings. WDO

Well I've been picking up some older glass to get with the new K200d. I have a nikon lens pen that I have been cleaning the glass with. It seems to do a great job. Is that a good way to go without damaging the coatings? WDO

I too am in need of a replacement for my kit. Although it has very good IQ, it does have limitations. The range of the 16-45 really lets something to be desired in my mind. 1mm on the wide end means close to nothing. 25mm on the long end means a great deal. After all, that’s one reason I mount a zoom in the first place. The more range I can get without sacrificing IQ the better. Another plus in the sigma’s favor is that it's a 2.8 @ the wide end. WDO
