Black Magic Design has a product line for HDMI capture. I haven't looked at it too closely, but,

Blackmagic Design: Intensity

The Intensity Pro (PCIe card) and Intensity Shuttle (USB 3) are $199, might be worthwhile.

Lens advice for K5 starter

Just one point, if you're looking at older manual focus lenses. The A series, which have an "A" on the aperture ring, are electronically identified by the camera, and will imbed EXIF info on the lens and aperture. Older lenses (K, M, M42) do not have any electronics, so you will not have this data in your photo files. This was kind of a big deal for me when I got into photography via pentax. Being able to look at lens/camera info later would help me figure out what I did wrong/right.

A way to clean focusing screen dust (K200D)

I read about this trick for applying screen proctectors to touch screens.

Go to the bathroom. Turn on the shower, hot, full blast for 5 minutes. Switch it to cold for a few minutes.

The condensation should trap most of the dust in the air. do swap in the bathroom.

Crumpler Bags

I have a Crumpler 5MDH. Wonderful bag! A bit big for a K20 and DA pancakes. Maybe and excuse for you to add the DA35. :)

It'll all fit rather easily with lots of left over space. It comes with a divider setup that has 3, uh, columns for storage. The camera will block 2 of the 3. You should be able to stack 2 or 3 or the DA ltds in any of the columns.

I think a 2 column bag would be a snugger fit for this setup. Maybe 4MDH?

What gear to take on holidays ?

Hehe so which is it, vacation first or photos first? ;) I have a bunch of nice glass but in the situation you describe, the 18-250 lives on the camera. Yeah I'd love to use the DA* zooms, but too big/bulky/heavy/lens-swap-intense, etc. And I have no problems with the 18-250's IQ, especially for these types of shots.

My last vacation, the K20d+18-250 was okay to carry all day, but adding just the FA31, my back was complaining late in the day.

Vacation is the priority?

Use it as an excuse to grab a 18-250 (not 28-250!), pentax or tamron. :) Bring as much as you want, and carry the 18-250 and one prime, preferably not an all metal one. Walking around 8hr+ for a few days with a bunch of gear sucks.

AF360FGZ problems

You're asking the camera/flash to do something very very specific (just add a little fill, but keep ambience), but automatically (P-TTL). While I _think_ Av tries to do this, I think your best best is to be in full manual mode, on the camera and on the flash. Set the camera up to underexpose slightly without flash, then add a bit of flash in manual mode, chimp, adjust. Once you've got it set up, as long as you control your distance to subject, you should get consistent shots.

Move the flash off-camera to get rid of the onboard flash look.

AF540FGZ question

You can get faster shutter than 180 in PTTL, it's called High Speed Sync. But, you need one of:

- flash mounted on camera
- proprietary pentax flash cable for off camera flash
- a hotshoe flash mounted on camera, to act as a wireless commander to the off camera flash.

This is a good way to delete the ambient light.

For P-TTL that means $50+ on cables and adapters...

If I were you I'd just get a 540, sell the 360 if funds were tight. The proprietary cable is expensive, and brackets are burly.

Digital Concepts flash 918AF reviewed and tested

Thanks, really great info.

So we have one significant negative. Without manual controls, it makes it pretty much useless for off camera radio triggered flash.

Really wondering about HSS and wireless. If it could do wireless commander for PTTL, it'll be a hell of a cheap way to do off camera HSS.

I say the 100mm. You have 31mm covered with a DA*. You have fast covered in 50/1.4. You have 100mm and macro covered with the 70-300, but I don't think it's covered neary as nicely.

Thanks for the review! Nice to see there's a good cheap PTTL unit out there. Can you do me a favor? How are the manual controls on the flash? Easy to adjust power?

FlashZebra.com, email the guy there, I think Loni. He'll get you what you need at reasonable prices.

Also, Alienbee Cybersyncs are the sweet spot right now for radio triggers.

There are some monster threads on flashwaves, do a search!

But I'd recommend Alienbees Cybersync. Cheaper, does much the same, I think the radio antenna outperforms the Flashwaves.

Here you go. But whoa! I didn't think a 43mm would be so expensive. I believe the B+W multicoated UV are considered at the top of the heap.

DA 21mm + UV filter + lens hood -- help me?

I'm looking at a DA21 right now. You're right, a 49mm filter on the lens would block the included hood.

But, I see filter threads on the inside of the hood! Markings on the hood say 43mm, so that might be the thread size. You should be able to screw a filter onto the inside of that hood.

Yup, just confirmed it with the online manual. 43mm filters, attaching to the inside of the hood.

EDIT: Ooops too slow!

Seems your doggie needs some sunglasses. :)

Please keep updating this thread! Very interesting. I'd love to set up a lightstick with this. But maybe with some cheap old flashes, 2x540 is too rich for me.

Upgrading from Tamron 18-250

Hm, proof is in the pudding, and I need to post pics, but I have plenty of zoo shots from my 18-250 that are in that ballpark. I know some are more picky than others, but I would be very very suprised if anyone could tell which images were taken with which lens.
