Lens suggestion for a parade and rally

I'm going to keep it simple. I'll have a small backpack to carry snacks and water so having the 55-300 in the bag will be easy.
i'll try to get there early, but looking for steps is a really good idea, camera or not.
thanks,
David

Lens suggestion for a parade and rally

I'm planning on attending the parade and rally celebrating the Washington Nationals World Series Win.
They are expecting "tens of thousands" of people. I don't know how close I'll be able to get.
I don't think I'll have much opportunity to change lens, so I'm wondering which lens I should depend on:
55-300, 50-135*, 18-135? I have others too.
I may also take my GR for wide angle.
thanks,
David

I also like the designs with with colors of the rainbow coming out of a prism.
As suggested by Jean Poitiers, it's best to better align the split light with the prism.
I'm not upset or confused by the use of a rainbow (and I'm American.) It's fine. Anyone who gets this confused with anything political should be pointed to an elementary physics text book.
By the way, my neighbor, Roy G. Biv, suggests using the rainbow colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

It does seem strange putting cheap filters on such an expensive lens, but including the lens with the body is certainly tempting.
I had an opportunity to try out this combination recently, and this lens makes for a very comfortable combination for hand-held situations.

USB stick drives?

Excellent advice from jatrax all around. Don't neglect the "multiple locations" part of the advice.
I knew an organization recently that made daily back-ups of their computer files to tape, but they put the back-up tapes on top of their servers.
There was a fire in the building that destroyed their servers, and, of course, their back-up tapes. It's hard to believe that folks would do that, but they did. This was just a couple of years ago. I would have thought people would know better.

USB stick drives?

What do you mean by "long-term". Are these photos that you would like your children and grandchildren to see? The most reliable longest term storage is paper storage.
Think of documents that are hundreds of years old. I doubt if there will be readers that can read USB drives sometime in the future.
If you lock them away and forget about regularly updated the technology, your children might not be able to view your photos.
I have files (and digitized photos) on 5 1/4 and 3 1/5 inch disks that are unreadable. I also have some computer tape drives from the 1950's that were discarded in the 1970's, not because no one wanted the data anymore, but because readers for those type of tape drives no longer existed only 20 years after they were created.
Just like we have to regularly update our videos from earlier days to DVD's and maybe digitize our slides when we no longer have a slide projector, we need to think about what digital media we want future generations to be able to view.

There is no doubt that the 50-135 is of the highest quality, and I love it, but for travel, I frequently want the further reach of the 55-300, coupled as was said before, with a high-quality prime. Next trip, I may try the 50-135 with the 1.4 teleconverter, but that is a pricey option.

How important is WR/AW to you... and why?

WR is important to me.
I like to take photos when I'm traveling, and I can't control the weather. Sometimes I have no choice.
There are also times when I'm somewhere where water can unexpectedly splash on me such as near a pool, beach, or parts of a zoo or animal show.
It's nice to not have to worry about my equipment.

Amazon Prime is $99/year. Because you also get shipping benefits, it may encourage you to buy more stuff from them.
All of Amazon's promotions seem to be designed to drive more customers to them rather than short-term profit.

That's very interesting.
He certainly has a good commercial model.
I saw Pele's Whisper when it was first released. (look under "volcanoes" on his web site.) Impressive in person. It conveys a lot of energy.

I also saw a photo of Peter taking the photo. I don't think it was easy being in the right place at the right time.

if you want a viewfinder, you can always get the Ricoh GV-1.
I have it, but frankly, the LCD screen has been fine, even on sunny days.

I think the Nikon D750 is a good benchmark for price. I think it will sell at that price.
If P/R can come in a little under that, they would have winner, if they announce soon.

I feel the same way as EssJayEff. I'd have to look at the price and comparison with the 645Z.
If I decide to go with a larger format than the K-3, the price and IQ would have to be right.

in addition to sports, you mentioned concerts.
the DA*50-135 is great for concerts. It is quiet and the faster f-stop helps too.
(Assuming that you are not in the third balcony, it should be long enough.)

I was also there. I was glad that we could walk around with the camera and try out different lenses.
I was pleasantly surprised that with the 55 mm lens, the combo was much lighter than I expected.

They also had a GR there that I played with too. I was impressed with it. Very compact, light, with a great sensor and features.

My thanks to Ace Photo for hosting the session. I hope they get some sales out it.

Where to buy?

Ace Photo in Ashburn Virginia is a great photo store with a large selection of Pentax products, great service, and knowledgeable staff.
They recently held a day of hands-on workshops with the 645Z, several lenses , studio lighting, a model and John Carlson of Pentax coming out from Colorado to answer questions. I think they would take phone orders. I also think they sell through Amazon or ebay. they also carry used Pentax equipment. (I am not affiliated with them, although I do buy a lot stuff from them.)
I'm sure there are other stores as well, since I am seeing more references to other stores carrying Pentax. With Calumet going out of business, there seem to be fewer camera stores in general.
