GR sister coming?

definitely seems like an OVF seeing how “33” is on both sides of the camera in the diagram (and Pentax’s current aversion to EVFs)

i can’t read the kanji letters, so wonder if IBIS is included as part of this

thanks for posting this, was curious to see what "33" was in this particular diagram, but it clearly says “FINDER" in katakana (and separate from the "MONITOR" too) :o

"32" looks like the return of the flash but could also be the AF lamp

I've managed to pair my GRIII on bluetooth w iOS but not sure what it's supposed to do, just transfer location information? The instructions plainly state it doesn't support capture or image transfer..

isn't this just the same 26mp sensor used behind the x-trans filter of the fuji X-T3? nothing prototype about it

mine too. the actual difference was quite small but did end up mattering to me. such a silly little thing to mar this long awaited launch

cool thanks, please keep us posted. loving my GRIII but do wish carrying an extra battery wasn't something we had to worry about

the whole point of the GR is carry less and focus on shooting...

GR III doing very well in Japan

Not really a concern as their only other currently available mounts are GXR and Q

only problem with K-Mount is how deep the flange distance is, even compared to other SLRs. the K-01 proved that removing the mirror can't mitigate this

that said, a newly updated GXRII with K-Mount module would be very exciting

cool thanks for the note. these also claim to be higher capacity than stock, is that your experience? probably hard to tell with a DSLR which last forever..

Best strap for GR so far

butterfingers matter when it’s a $900 compact

the included Ricoh strap doesn’t even have a tightening slider, and I’ve had a Gordy string detach from its strap on a Sony RX100II. yes I’d use it to pull it out of my pocket, but still. never again

seems this person couldn’t either and made their own too. i actually did something very similar and attached a keyring directly to my K-5’s strap lug. (only using Limited Lenses of course)

DIY FTW

Edit: this was used to connect a strap, i’d just use the ring alone...

really hope Ricoh remembers to ‘activate’ those PDAF pixels in the new sensor with the next firmware, because it doesn’t make sense that it’s worse than one without them. and in their defense, it’s much much easier to fast autofocus the tiny sensor of the GRDs where most everything is already in focus anyway

I looked far and wide for a commercial version of this, but all the wrist and finger straps I’ve seen are attached by a flimsy string that I trust way less than an industrial zip tie. plus the string just flops about and you have to stop to put it on. with this I just grab the camera and it's already on

which leads to the gaff tape, or better said, my “best case for the GR so far”. namely I don’t use a case, my GR goes in and out of my jeans pocket dozens of times a day and wanted to preserve the paint job a bit if and when it comes time to sell it. I actually like the subdued logo they used for the III, but my jeans (and the coin pocket) would do a number on any device

nothing quicker. or stealthier.

surprisingly comfortable, but may need bigger ziptie depending on your pinky finger. shutter finger up top works too, but then you can’t let go and use the hand for anything else

GRIII - X100F comparison video

thats definitely an extreme case, not one you'd encounter often. power drain has been a universal knock on the GRIII so far (even with its bigger battery) and I still question the ability to take handheld low-light shots when the other universal knock on the GRIII is its terrible low-light focusing

I don't know if its a patent issue, but Olympus's IBIS physically locks the sensor in place when disabled, drawing no power. as it stands now, SR seems like a very sophisticated (and expensive) nice-to-have, not necessarily essential to the GR shooting experience (definitely not up to this point). with Pentax/Ricoh's implementation of SR, I'm not sure the battery life tradeoff is worth it

this is because SR still takes power even when disabled, physically keeping the sensor “locked” in place

the GRIII inherits the infamous “sensor knock” of the powered off SR system from Pentax DSLRs. powered on but disabled, the knock goes away because the SR magnets are still active. i’m still amazed they managed to put this system into a GR sized body. usefulness w a 28mm equivalent lens aside, it really is quite remarkable

Build quality of GRIII - the problem of wobbly control dial

Update: I returned my original GRIII at B&H for one just out of the serial number range

made sure to get it shipped to the NYC store to compare it side by side with the original and the conclusion is that the 'new' one does wobble less and feels better. there IS still a little bit of play but it is less than the original when it first came out of the box. I remember being immediately disappointed when I first opened the first one, so it wasn't use.

let's be clear, we're probably talking about a 1mm vs 2mm of play here, but on an expensive piece of gear ostensibly refined over decades, it does makes a difference. will it get looser with use? time will tell, but at the very least Ricoh is aware of *the perception* of a problem and are doing something about it quickly, so I ultimately applaud them. in lieu of being more careful from the beginning with such a highly priced and praised piece of gear they actively market as revered.

again, yes, of course. that's assuming there were any in stock at this retailer to replace it with.

Ricoh Asia is quoting a 4 day turnaround, if Ricoh USA can do that, likely I could have it before their next batch comes in

and again, none of this ideal
