Seen in a recently delivered Christmas catalogue.
I don't claim encyclopedic knowledge of Pentax models but this has me beat.

Wooooot,... 4K !!!

But .... Pentax don't have video as a priority.
4K is probably the minimum they can get away with.
Good AF during video and mechanical stabilisation may well be possible with the technology under the covers but I see nothing in the specs.
I wish and hope that I'm wrong ... time will tell

Why go far Japan? I have nothing against imports and I've done a few but there's no shortage of K3's from UK sources so why take the chance?
There have been several K3's on the UK user forum recently as well as e-bay.

New Pentax KP vs. used Nikon D800

I think both cameras would give very similar results overall. There will be differences but they would probably only appear in your use case when the camera gets used.
To me the question is do you want to buy an older second hand camera with no knowledge of how it has been used or abused compared with a new camera with 2 year warranty - maybe extendable to 3 years?

Why I need 4K video in a new Pentax camera...

Although we still don't know the full spec for K-new it seems to me that what has been revealed so far (no flippy screen, enhanced viewfinder) suggests this camera is going into some market area which does not care about video, not much about action photography and no desire to compete with the big boys in general.
While I have no problem with Ricoh/Pentax choosing and following their niche (it's their business after all) I'm sad that the manufacturer I have followed for 6 decades is moving away from my use case.
I have often had the need to capture stills and video at the same event and tried carrying both sorts of camera - it's a PITA.
I know this view does not fit with the majority view on the forum - it might be wrong headed but it's the truth as I see it.

Pentax Video Question

I have seen quite a few semi-serious video fans using a smart phone on a stabilised gimbal mount.
These seem to be available from Amazon etc at reasonable prices, but to be fair i haven't tried one myself.
A stabilised mount for DSLR will be expensive and it may well be that a smart phone will give sufficient quality for your application.

K5 still worth buying?

+1 for the K5iiS. I bought one a couple of years ago for not much more than your budget to use alongside my K-S2.
Other than not having a flippy screen which I have used extensively the older camera is very capable and generally seems to get used more often.
If you only have older lenses than the lack of support for KAF4 isn't an issue.

Jammed battery cap

No further suggestions about removing the cap but once it's out look carefully at the thread on the camera body - it has jammed for a reason.
It may be some grit in the thread or more likely it has been cross threaded and jammed in by a previous owner.
You need to identify and solve this problem or a new cap will have the same problem.
You may find a whole "new" base plate complete with cap is the easiest solution. e-bay is your friend in this case.

Large debris showing up in all photographs.

If it appears on the images and on Live View but not through the viewfinder that suggests something on the back of the mirror which appears when the mirror flips up.
Have you put the camera in sensor cleaning mode ?
If it's a shutter problem then that wouldn't show in Live View.
If it moves when you shake the camera that suggests a physical object.
So as suggested above, camera in sensor cleaning mode and plenty of rocket blower and Pentax lollipop sensor cleaner

Prime or (better) Zoom - Wide Angle for K-70

I have Pentax 10-17 and Sigma 8-16 both of which I'm happy with and should be available at your budget level

The Pentax is very fishy at the 10 end but not much at 17. The Sigma is rectilinear but still a bit fishy at the 8 end.

I find uses for both. The Pentax has the advantage of being light and small so is part of my travel kit.
The Sigma had most use when I was often in the situation of not being able to distance myself from the subject I wanted to capture

R&D and profit.

Another thing to remember is that not all R&D ends up with a product.
It might end up with a decision not to produce anything, for example I'm sure Ricoh keep an eye on
mirrorless and have probably done analysis of cost vs likely market share and decided against.

Or they might investigate new materials for bodies or lenses and again decide against.

That is to me R&D

ME Super Exposure dial locked in L position

I seem to remember having a similar problem years ago while travelling on holiday.
A small piece of dirt had somehow got under the dial and jammed it.
Desperate to fix it and not miss pictures from the second half of the holiday I used my Swiss Army knife to undo the screw which surrounds the shutter button.
This allowed the dial to come up and I could remove the dirt and all was well.
But beware, there is some small spring ( I think) which supports the white button and which will make a bid for freedom.
Sorry not to have more detail but this was 25 years ago.

DSLR as webcam?

Many thanks for your input. I can use my phone but I was hoping to be able to use the bigger screen on my desktop.
I understand that this is not a priority for DSLR manufacturers but it seems a pity they don't include the necessary software
given that all necessary hardware is present.
But then that's true for a number of features we might all like to see.

DSLR as webcam?

Thx for above suggestions.
Sadly in UK at least it's difficult to find an acceptable webcam, lots of cheapies which are really low quality, other better offerings mostly sold out.
I just thought that before I buy anything I have several digital cameras here, mostly Pentax, that might be persuaded to do the job.
Ah well back to online shopping.

In these days of social isolation and meeting via Zoom etc I find I have missed the boat as far as buying a webcam is concerned.
But I wonder if any of the Pentax DSLR's I own can be pressed into service - has any one done this? If so how?
A quick scan of manuals has not been very instructive so I turn to my top source of Pentax info - PF

Brand of bayonet lens hood compatible with Pentax? (16-85mm/72mm especially)

I note in the title of this post the word "bayonet" - generic 72mm hoods are threaded not bayonet.
JJC offer many compatible copies of Pentax hoods but I don't know about the 16-85.
The original will have a Pentax code on it such as RBC xxxxx.
An e-bay search on that code will quickly show if a bayonet hood is available.
If not as others say any 72mm threaded hood will fit but may give vignetting at the wide end of the zoom range.

+1 to that. When I had a Theta I had good success editing out the bottom few pixels to remove unwanted bits of the image then resizing back to native Theta specs.
But of course you want to remove as little as possible - I used a selfie stick to hold the camera above my head, cheap light readily obtainable.

Rather belated reply but I enjoyed Cordoba more than Seville but the Alhambra is the best.
But take some time to just enjoy the places, on my last visit I saw at least one person who only saw the Alhambra though the lens of his camera.

Just picking up on Mark's analogy above - while a 2020 Ford Ranger will never be a Ferrari it's certainly more car-like than its predecessors with comparable comfort and conveniences , why?
Because that's what the market demands.
