Making SSL is so cheap because webservers offload all the processing to your browser with javascript. Best case which I've found was 404 error page 1.5 kB/word.

I didn't test these yet, but I after this thread has given some ideas, I hit github:
GitHub - pulsar123/Macro-scripts: A set of BASH scripts and C++ programs representing a complete workflow for processing macro focus stacking photographs. Utilizes other open source packages (dcraw, Hugin, ImageMagick) internally. The Deadpixels scri

Those tools might give some easy to use workflow.

And if anyone is wondering, I use Arch Linux.

The patdavid.net link looked quite promising. Maybe some code to automate the process with zero effort would make great tool...

Concratulations. You have good target and simple use case. I wish I had too.

I have number of resistors in row, each resistor is in focus in one image and image count comes closer to 30. And I have image sets from four directions.

That thread is older than average whisky people drink :)

Thanks for direction.

However one hour surfing around panotools didn't got me closer to my target. Some people had done it with a lot of effort but I still can't believe this isn't really solved problem.

Hello!

I would like to try to focus stacking on Linux. What are my real options? Hugin wasn't really co-operative.

I wouldn't want to spend a day to set some environment up and get just bad results if someone can tell me not to go there or tell what workflow would lead easy and good end result.

Do you even consider balancing your camera on a tripod?

I have two rings which have 12.5 degree faces below my head. So if legs are uneven, I can compensate from zero to 25 degrees and turn them until bubble is in centre and then I lock them. The quick release plate has also long travel so that usually I get horizontal panning and easy tilt. With that heavy tripod the levelling is five seconds job.

But with something light weight, I don't bother.

Infrared capacity of your camera

In digital the IR/UV is required to tell the sensor what it is wanted to be sensitive. Sensor actually doesn't care if it is red, blue, IR or UV. It just reacts to it.

The AA filter has been removed from most modern cameras so that people can get their moire and the last ppm of details. Pentax shakes the senor to make AA-filter if that is wanted

My ist*DL got hit by a rock. I was photographing blasting of the end of a tunnel and I had camera in the middle of a tunnel. Setup was 15 sec timer on the camera, 15 sec shutter time. I armed camera went behind the corner, when the shutter opened, the explosives were fired (or actually their delays). When the rocks started to fly, one hit my straight to the old tele M lens front of my camera. Tripod fell on the ground, camera got scratches on the back and still worked. Mirror box was full of broken glass so the lens didn't survive. Anyway on next week I got the photo with new tele M lens and cleaned up DL.

Same thing happened to Sony camcorder. Only camera in 500m from blasting zone and single rock flew away. That camera didn't survive. But it had same tripod. So if somebody blasts some rock, the safest place to be is five meters from the camera:)

They should. If Pentax released reference potato, it would indeed give reference line, but wrong end of the scale...

So far I've kept wondering when the limit hits and the photographer is wanting something which the lens can't deliver. And what is the pathological use case where the lens doesn't make good photos.

This comes from the idea how it is teached in schools. Teachers draw some 4-bit (sign and three bits) digital sine signal to black board and say it is the sound. And in photography there are such simplifications which come and bite to you same way.

I find the leg work for tuning the lights to be quite refreshing and giving new points of view. Looking the image only through camera locks my ideas at least. But this depends if requirement is to make M20 bolt sexy product image, options for creativity are quite limited. But for live model some unbalanced light may be the big thing.

The disassembly procedure is told in hacking pentax firmware thread. If someone is interested in K-1 and K-1 m2 differences, those could be compared and see if something could be backported. That requires expendable K-1 . It might get broken.

And RE of firmwares requires a lot of skill.

Not below 20" but small displays anyway...

I have 26" Full HD and two 24" 4k displays in three head setup. It isn't for the pixel peeping but normal text. I once saw the K letter was made from bricks on fullHD display and now I can't unsee it. Reason why I keep the FullHD display is its better color space.

I've had some "normal" and slings. I have setled to this:
Photo-Recon? - Camera Bags - Tactical Gear - Hazard 4

I like it and I have something like five Sigma pouches with lenses inside it.

K1 SD cards

The advertisement speeds aren't average speeds when filling the card continuously. They are some top speeds.

For fast writing you should use identical cards and never delete files. Always format.

Rest of this post is some technobabble and trying not to go of abyss of flash memories of filesystems.

Let's tackle the always format first. When using FAT32 filesystem, there is file allocation table (FAT) which says this file is in these clusters. Best scenario is that file is one chunk of sequential clusters. When writing image to card the camera can first write to FAT that there will be image on these clusters and then write it. The behaviour is then single write to the FAT address and sequential write starting from address which the allocated clusters are until otherwise told. Speed difference is about ten times between single writing and same amount of sequential writing.

When deleting files the disk space is freed in FAT. The data is still there and flash memory can't be rewritten unless erased first. When rewriting, camera and card does a lot of magic and it takes time to get the data on disk. Formatting erases the card fully and gives possibility to just write.

I don't have experience on the exFAT filesystem but someone who wrote driver for it said, it's like FAT beaten to beyond recognition and then put back together to keep patent royalties continues to flow....

There are many possibilities when SD-card can ask for delay. So using both cards identical the timing model is same and camera may or may not prepare for it. Also larger cards usually are faster on small writes like few MBs of JPG. I believe this is result of the addressing model of the flash chip inside the card. So far I haven't seen any processor which has two independent SD hardware, but I've multiplexed one to many cards and then it is just small matter of programming. So when both cards are equally fast, the writing is fast.

This stuff is usually hidden in many layers of abstractions. On computer there is card reader, maybe USB, all other HW and OS with its buffers and delays, but on embedded world this comes important.

Arduino sdfatlib provides some performance data: sdfatlib/CardPerformance.txt at master jbeynon/sdfatlib GitHub which is using SPI interface, not SD interface to communicate with the card but same rules apply.

My favourite brands are by the way Sandisk, Lexar and newest Trancends. I like how they behave.

Pentax 135mm F1.8 SMC Pentax-A* at a Finnish used camera shop

I know nothing about this specific lens.

However I have only good experiences from this seller, Kameratori. I have used that camera shop quite many times. Few bodies, some short and long lenses. I've always left satisfied and I keep reloading that page and actually just bought GPS-module for my K-3 while writing this message. I highly recommend this shop for used Pentax gear.

Well, that sounded quite advertisement. I have no affiliation with this shop even I'm living in same town.

And then we can see if Pentax is doooooooomed.

My reading says Theta is consider important factor of internet services and 3D environments and its development has to be pursued to gain some market share. It may be good for Pentax DSLRs too. As actively developing algorithms for theta, there might be some same kind or totally different usage on DSLR environment. Like auto-tune was adapted to music.

I couldn't spot any mention of DSLR markets. I interpret it as a good news. There wasn't any hints to crawl back to core printer business. Even the structural reformation might work for Pentax. If people are rotated and knowledge moves from different parts of expertise, there might be something similar inventions like star tracer with SR.

And yes I'm optimistic and keep buying Pentax.

K3II and heat

My experience is from 2015 and is from clever applications of camera more than photographing.

I was imaging operations of heavy machinery. And this was more of a electronics project for triggering camera than photographing. Just to show where the fast mechanics works wrong. How much of failure was from vibration and how much heat I don't know. And the camera was old too. Last frames before total bricking was garbage. So I believe it was electronics failure. Anyway 3 shots from over 2000 were needed to solve the problem It just needed the right right triggering time. My worst keeper ratio.

The limit for *ist DS body was 8 hours 50-60 C and +80dB noise. I chose body to be expendable. 50mm manual lens had no problems.

Any trick to tighten the mount?

Sorry I wrote in a hurry my last post.

The problem is that autofocus drops out and M is lighted in viewfinder. Rotating the lens in mount fixes that. And it moves quite easily. Generally all my lenses have small play so I can tilt it vertically or horizontally. There is also some play in locking pin. rotational is 1-2 millimetres on right next to mount and tilting is just noticeable. However there isn't any light leak. For comparison all my lenses are rather tight fits to old K100 body. Some rotational play is in locking pin but k-3 is much more looser isn't as that tight as K100.

The 150-500 is mounted from lens. It is so heavy and long that my figure of nerd can't handle it. But still when I aim the camera, there is some torsion and it requires very gently touch to do that. It takes all the fun out to just think if AF will be there when I move the camera. So that's the qualification of horrible.

I keep wondering. The 70-300 has screw drive and it suffers also. Is it some pin with bad connection after all making these problems?

I wiped mount and flanges and got my wipe black. Tomorrow is again shooting day and I'll let you know if there is any difference.

Pentax lenses:
18-135 WR works always.
DA 18-55 (no WR) loosest of them all but works most of the time
Sigma lenses:
Sigma 150-500 horrible on tripod
Sigma 70-300 has problems sometimes.
Sigma 18-50 has problems sometimes too

I'll try the microfiber cleaning of the flanges. It's quite understandable how it can make the electrical part fail. Something gets between contacts if flanges or mount isn't clean. Let's see what happens.
