Split prism focusing screens?

Thanks. I use a lot of manual lenses so the split screen works well with them. Any advice on which one would be the best choice on the Pentax list? Katz Eye, I noticed have ceased production, which is a shame.

I've recently passed on my revered K10D to my son & bought a KS-1. I had a split screen for the K10D but I can't seem to find one for the KS-1. Any ideas?

Microsoft releases Windows 8 RAW Codec, includes Pentax PEF

This is very good news. I would imagine that Pentax had a hand in it or I would hope.

When I went from XP to Vista, it was a nightmare that I only awoke from on discarding my Canon hardware. The result of that is that I will never buy Canon equipment again. I felt that they were making their equipment redundant.

On Windows 7, I couldn't get the Remote to work on the K10D (some on this forum have, however) and I found that it was unsupported in by Windows 7 by Pentax so I downloaded a third party.

We can't expect manufactureres to update their equipment in perpetuity for free, but if some of us are unwilling or unable to update perfectly servicible equipment, then there should be a way to do so, even if it has to be paid for.

SMC Pentax-M lens 'stuck' to largest aperture on K10D

Ah! Ha! Thank you very much.

It works. Well, that saved a camera & a lens from some damaging mechanical interference. :D.

The three lenses I have (+ a 2x tele) are shown with a P30 Camera. I have had these from yesterday when my wife was having a bit of a scavenge (which is how she got me :) )during our six monthly council cleanup where you throw your rubbish on the footpath & the council pick it up. (Unless my wife gets there first)

The lenses were in their original leather cases except for the Tokina RMC 80-200 which was attached to the camera. The lenes are an M 28 - 2.8 & M 50 - 1.4. I have a couple of M42's (50 1.4 & 135 3.5) and I thought that they would operate the same way.

They are all a bit grubby but I couldn't see any evidence of fungus but I'll have a closer look before I store them with the others.

Interestingly, there were instruction manuals for a Canon Rebel & other Canon peripherals. Someone must have got there first & decided that the Pentax deserved to stay. Lucky me.

SMC Pentax-M lens 'stuck' to largest aperture on K10D

Thanks Pio Rico

So, I would need to remove the lever that extends into the camera to operate the aperture ring? Have I got that right?

Hmmm! I'm just wondering if there's something wrong with my Camera. When I fit the lens, the aperture becomes wide open and connot be changed regardless of what I do with the aperture ring.

Same problem but on attaching the M len, the apperture opens fully and can't be closed. I have three M lens & it happens with all of them. All lens' work on a P30. I have changed to "Aperture permitted" and use in "M" mode.

Thanks

Ricoh to buy Pentax camera business from Hoya

My first SLR was a Ricoh XR-M. I've still got it and if they had made the same camera into a digital, I'd be still using it. I use the lenses now on my K10D.

If Ricoh want to buy Pentax, then they must be serious about re-entering the SLR market because there's not a lot Pentax has in point & shoot.

I'm very positive about it.

I'd be happy with manual focus. It would replace my M 28mm 2.8 which is becoming attached to my K10D by molecular attraction.

My solution to an identical problem & maintain budgetry constraints is a Pentax M28 f2.8. I use it more than the kit. I also use the Supertak 50mm f1.4 & was fortunate enough to score an F50mm f1.7 very cheaply for autofocus. There is a Pentax 28mm f2.0 but it's a fortune.

The Zenit Helios range 58mm 1:2 44M- (x) have been getting a lot of very positive comments on the manual focus forums of late. Now, they are cheap; I got one for $20 (ding in filter ring). I bought it only to check the infinity focus on my 50/1.4 Super Tak with the adapter I had. I'll give it a run on it's own when I get the chance. But at that price, you can't go too wrong.

Pentax F 50mm f/1.7 - samples

I'm very grateful for this thread. I was lucky enough to get hold of a F50 f/1.7 about two years ago attached to an SF7 for $80.

I was tossing up wether or not to sell it to fund an FA50 f/1.4.

Having a super tak 50 f/1.4 already was stopping me.

I think now, I'll stick with what I've got. :)

In the words of another, on a forum far, far away, try the Tamron zooms 70-210 19AH SP or the SP 60-300.

They actually think that they are primes.

My favorite would be the M28/2.8 I bought from this forum. It's sharp, light & a great focal length for outdoor shots on the K10D.

The only time I don't use it is when I need a different focal length or faster.

I would think the wide angle would be of advantage; I've purchased a 10-20 Sigma to use on my K10d & I do use it a lot. There'll be lot's of "architectural" shots on board not to mention entering bays & harbours. :)

Great shots. I do have this lens; purchased about six months ago. Has anyone had success indoors with flash? I've the F360z & I can't seem to do any good at all. I've deleted the few attempts I've made.

Also, I can't seem to find any examples in this thread except for a flash assisted one.

Thanks

What to get my son.

Oh! I do understand dadipentac (great name by the way).

My son was actually adopted & comes from Thailand. The great difference is that I have no talent artistically at all;(I can well appreciate & admire good art, though)

I'm a camera enthusiast, an engineering technologist & he is gifted artistically. (He's no slouch in other depts but you get what I mean).

The advantage is that I know that he won't follow in my footsteps so I can try & guide him in where I observe where he should perhaps go. It's been good fun along the way.

And really, if you can't put out for your kids, what's the point?:)

Wow, sorry, I've been away for a few days. I didn't expect so much interest & assistance.

Yep! We've a book from the library & a course is starting at our local technical college in May. I might enrol myself.

There's a new K200D new at a local shop for $A688. A brilliant price. I'm tempted to buy it & give him mine.

He is artistic; he did some paintings at school (one of Bob Marley surrounded by dope leaves but the backgrpound was painted & he & the leaves were left as white canvas) It went over like a bucket of manure in a marshmallow pie with the teachers but they did privately say it could be exhibited in the local gallery as long as the school wasn't identified.

I tend to agree that it's so easy to learn with digital.

Thanks for all the comments.

That's a good idea Nanok. I could let him out for a run with mine & we could fiddle with f-stops, apperture, ISO etc. Then he could set up the Ricoh & go for it with his. I do have a Plustek Opticfilm 7200 which is adequate if he want to scan the negs.

Yep, I'll do that.:)

I've a split screen in my K10D. It (so far) always agrees with the focus confirmation with manual lenses.

Thanks for that.

It's actually his birthday but I must say I like the option of leaving him with the Ricoh:) (yep, K Mount) & getting him some film.

Unfortunately our A$ is about 70c to the US$ at present. It was near par a year ago & I bought a stack of stuff from B & H, Adorama & KEH.

Not so attractive now.

Hi My son is getting keen on photography. He is very art orientated & clearly has a talent. He's 21.

I'd like to get him a Pentax (can use my lenses, I've a K10D) second hand & if he doesn't continue with I can sell it again. (Or keep it myself as a second body)

I really don't know what to look for, be it *ist, K100D, K110D. K10d's are still too expensive. He's mucking around with my old Ricoh XR-M at present. (Put a digiback on that & I would have kept it:) )

Any idea's?

Thanks

Graeme
