Are there any 645 lenses that should be avoided?

the FA80-160 is weak at the tighter end , say 120 to 160, per my experience and others here, so not always something I use as its quite large for an 80-120 and not really the focal length I would use it for

Wanted: Best 645 67 Options for 300mm to 400mm Lens

I tried many of the available telephotos from 300 to 800 for this format (44x33) and eventually kept the 645 400mm 5.6 (lightweight) AND the 67 *400 f4 (heavy, superior quality).

is a 645D worth buying today?

the main downside to the 645D was sensor split. uneven exposure in the two sensor halves. showed up at the worst times. all three bodies that I owned or auditioned had the problem. loved the D until the second I could get my hands on a Z.........

never want to deal with a D again , for any reason........

645 vs 67 lenses for digital conversion

I kept the 400edif f4 (67) lens AND the lighter 400mm f5.6 lens (645). I resold the 300edif f4 (645) and the 800mm f6.7 (67) after testing. The 400mm EDIF (67) works great with a 1.4 extender when needed. The 400mm f5.6 (645) is super lightweight and has a more pleasing telephoto effect than the 300mm range on a a 44x33 chip, for me.

I adapted a canon FD 600mm fit the 645D and Z , but the glass is pretty old and suffers from purple fringing on digital. Better look from stacking two 1.4 extenders on the 400mm (67).

the video also forgot to mention having a pressurized air source , canned or bulb or compressor. Screen changes invariably introduce dust into viewing system and or sensor, so i always bring air and patience ,as it
may take a few passes at viewing and cleaning to get that optical path clean again.

Pentax 67 75mm AL underexposes on Pentax 645D

I went through a period on the Z and the D where i thought this lens and adaptor were underexposing. I eventually came to see that the glass is so very contrasty that my blacks and deep shadows were very dark compared to my other lenses. I shot charts and found that the metering is right on . And likewise in real world shots, if a subject , such as a forest, was made up of similar values i never felt under, but when dark and light were in the same shot , such as a red rock canyon with bright blue sky and white puffy clouds, the shadow areas could become blocked up in a way not matching other 67 and 645 lenses. Sort of like "real" Zeiss glass. I wish all my pentax glass matched this one lens and not the other way around.

67 versus 645 for shift adaptor

I suggest the pentax 28mm shift for PK mount. Its literally made to do the job. And my experience with apsc and that lens were quite good. I stopped by Zork when the 645 Z was new and shot 67 lens tests and was not wowed in any way..

the teleconverter on the 400 5.6 can make great high res pix. in very very bright daylight . 5.6 and then 8 for the teleconverter and then stop down two stops to make it look acceptable. needs a lot of light. i only ever tested it for fun.

Batteries

With my 645Z i noticed it was eating batteries. Then i noticed that i was still using batteries acquired at the time of my 645D purchase. Dated 2009 , 2010 , 2011. So , I then ordered two Watson batteries. Those work even less well than old pentax batteries. Useless, garbage. So now I got hold of a new pentax battery dated late 2016. So far so good.

So , fellow 645Z shooters, how long do you keep your batteries in service? Three years?

many of us, myself included, don't really trust our copies between 130 and 160 mm for much of anything stellar. just sort of mushy. great at 80 to 120 mm !

Canon EF Mount lens on a 645??

i was stirring the pot a little bit. i know the OP wants to use his canon glass on pentax 645 AND his canon FF. not possible. my point was more that many canon lenses do in fact have an image circle that covers a 44mm circle. i have a canon FD 600mm f4.5 that i shoot on pentax 645Z. it was at some point chopped up for cinema use and covers 44mm quite comfortably.
