Pentax K-1 pixel shift processed with RAW Therapee

My revised workflow:

1. Shoot a pixel shift RAW image with the K-1
2. Open the file in RAW-Therapee
3. Under 'Processing Profiles' you will see 'last saved' click on this arrow
4. Now you will see "bundled profiles" click, then click (pixel shift) then click "PS ISO Low" (I used 100 ISO in camera)
5. Finish post processing as normal
6. Go to the 'Color' icon, click and go to the bottom and choose your color output profile
7. Save in 16 bit TIFF

Here are three images from Flickr: first the entire scene, second and third are crops (second no pixel shift, third with pixel shift):

Pentax K1 Pixel shift | The large image is the scene, of the? | Flickr

Pentax K1 Pixel shift | The large image is the scene, of the? | Flickr

The Pixel Shift crop looks a little over sharpened, I'll have to do more research. Any further suggestions?

Thanks everyone, I feel more confident now about what I'm doing and what I will do. I hope others that try pixel shift will use this thread, as I'm sure there are other photographers that have been confused like I was (and maybe still am).

kiwi_jono, like you I haven't done much pixel shift (PXS). My photo with PXS have been just trial runs. But with the adjustments that I have received above I have to say things are looking much better than my first attempts. I'll put one up in the next few days.

I will also revise my workflow if I get more advice.

Thanks, a couple of things so far that I haven't done correctly.

House, sorry to bother you but I'm not good with computer English. My bundled profiles include pixel shift, and I shoot at ISO 100. So do I choose 'PS Low ISO?'

I have been enjoying my K-1, and recently have branched out from Manual settings only to try Pixel Shift. I've tried to understand process and have become confused. So, I will give you my workflow with RAW Therapee (RT), and maybe someone with tell me where I'm going wrong (if I'm going wrong).

1. Shoot a pixel shift RAW image with the K-1
2. Open the file in RT
3. Click on the RAW icon (it is the checker board icon)
4. Under the 'demosaicing' hit the down arrow for 'method'
5. Choose 'pixel shift'
6. Go to the 'Color' icon, click and go to the bottom and choose your color output profile
7. Finish your processing as normal, save in 16 bit TIFF

Am I doing this correctly?

John

I like the idea of a small flash, as I won't be using it off camera (I have other flashes for that stuff). I'll mostly use it for fill flash, but I also do want the HSS. The only 2 AA batteries worries me a little, will it be powerful enough. If anyone has used it for fill flash I'd like to hear your experiences.

I've had two DSLRs, both Pentax, and I really never used them out of the house. The K-01, I thought was a great idea (I have legacy glass), but I guess I just don't know these markets. I just hope mine stays together for a long time.

External Flash (old) with the K-01

My four aperture ring 35mm (some over 20 years old) AF lenses all work beautifully on my K-01. But the best of all is that I can set it on Manual Mode and then set the the ring on the auto setting aperture and go to work easily indoors. Also, you can set the green button for what you want on an ambient scene then step back and shoot with the indoor setting. They are perfect. My old K10d did similar but it was not equipped with live view and through the finder it was harder to see the ambient reading. I haven't tried fill flash, but it seems it will work just as easily. What do others think?

I've always thought that Olympus was the most innovative Japanese camera company (and a company that brought ALL [unlike C and N] levels of cameras to the market). But C and N, I've also thought, have been adders of superfluous tech (and size and weight).

Fuji Superia ISO200

I use that film, or at least I think I do, I use Fuji Superia Xtra 400 (not 200). I get it at Costco in Danville, CA for about $1.37 (USA) per roll. But I have given up on it, too much grain or aliasing, I now shoot only Tmax 100 or Ektar100 in 35mm. Now that I have a Pentax 6x7 my life has changed. But when I shoot Fuji Superia in any of my 120 cameras I really like it.

Give us the: filter if any, the EI, and how was it developed (I assume at a lab). Thanks for posting. I am using SFX with a B&W 090 (red) filter and rating it at EI40. I am interested in shooting in situations like you did without a filter. Thanks for any reply.

Yes, I'd buy it, I don't use digital much (mostly film), but my son likes my K10d and he can have it if a FF comes out.

Outdoor scenery: slow ISO color or black and white. Use a tripod, shoot in the early morning and late in the afternoon. 400 may work but if you are going to have them printed go for slower. Be sure to shoot a few rolls of inexpensive film before you start getting serious, get to know the camera first.
