It would be great if you could post a short video comparing focusing speed of your da*300 on both cameras. It's been said by some guys who've had a chance to try a k-5, that they didn't notice faster focusing speed with sdm lenses compared to older bodies, so it would be nice if you could prove they were wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Dare I say.... a FF next?

Well, even considering these lenses work nicely on a digital FF camera, to be competitive in the FF market, Pentax would still need to come with at least three zooms (12-24, 24-70, 70-200) and some longer primes (400mm...).

Well, president of Pentax USA doesn't seem to be as confident as you. Here are some quotes from a post in his blog:

"Many lenses originally designed for film fall short in terms of distortion control and edge-to-edge sharpness when used with a full frame sensor"

"And although we have some wonderful FA lenses, like my favorite FA 31mm Limited, I'm not sure even this lens would be up to the optical challenge".

The problem is Pentax has 0 digitally optimized Full frame lenses (well, maybe the DFA 100mm macro WR coul be the only one). All DA lenses are meant for APS-C, and although some of them might work on a larger image circle, I wouldn't expect the performance to be stellar (even the DA*200 and DA*300, that everyone considers to be FF, come with this notice on bhphotovideo: "Not compatible with "full-frame" (35mm size) cameras"). Same applies for the FA lenses, they are FF, but its performance on a Pentax digital FF is uncertain (even Ned Bunnell discussed that in his blog).

Any rumors about new lenses?

Hi. I've recently sold all my Pentax Gear with the intention of moving to Full frame (either C*NON or N*KON). As I'm not in a hurry (when I mostly use my gear is in summer), I'm waiting to Photokina to see what all brands have to offer. With the recent rumors about K-5 and its fast AF, High DR and nice High ISO performance I've considered staying with Pentax.

However, what worries me the most are lenses and not cameras. I will only be getting digitally optimized full frame lenses that I will use either in an APS-C or future Full Frame Pentax Cameras (considering how expensive good lenses are, I need to have the confidence my lenses will work nicely in any future high end Pentax body, whether it's APS-C or Full frame).

My question is, has anybody info about what lenses will Pentax be announcing in Photokina (appart from the rumored 18-125)? Is there any chance any of this lenses will belong to the DFA line or a new full frame line?

It will be nice to have an announcement of lenses such as:

DFA 12-24
DFA 24-70 or 28-70
DFA 70-200 or 80-200
DFA 400

K20d pixel mapping. How to reset this feature?
Posted By skawi

I've run the pixel mapping, but as I don't really know how it works (don't know if it maps the whole sensor every time or if it works following an additive process) I've decided I'd better cope with this problem myself using raw converters.

The problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way of reseting this feature and re-enabling all sensor pixels. In my opinion this is pretty strange... Anyone knows how to do it?

Thanks in advance

K20d AF adjust: Help me choosing the correct value.

I'm adjusting the AF of all my lenses. I've tried some of the focus test charts available for download on the net, but as many have already pointed, they give contradictory results as the AF area is pretty big.

As a result I decided to do the traditional 90 degrees newspaper shots, and that's what I got:

(the lens used is the FA 31mm ltd @ 1.8 on a tripod, all photos are 100% crops)

First, I shot using 0, +5, -5 to see which was the porblem:

+5:

0:

-5:

The -5 Shot is without a doubt the sharpest one. I did further testing and found the -8, -9, -10 to be the sharpest ones, but can't really decide which one is the best. Can you help?

Dilemma: Pentax K-7 or Pentax K20d+wide angle lens?

Hello. I recently sold my k10d because of ff/bf problems with many lenses, planning to get a body with focus adjustment. The new K-7 looks like a great camera, but I can get a K20d for less than half the price. To complete mi collection of lenses I would like a wide angle lens (12-24mm f4, 14mm f2.8 or15mm ltd).

I can get a K-7 or a K20d+wide angle lens for more or less the same price. What would you do? I'm mostly concerned about image quality and I don't care about video. Features such as bigger viewfinder or faster AF are interesting though.

In case of getting the k20d plus a wide angle, which lens do you recommend me? As I said I'm mostly concerned about image quality, so primes should be the way to go. However, in many reviews it's claimed that the 12-24 is superior to the 14mm image quality wise (I don't know how the 15mm would compare).

Hello, the reason of this thread is in my signature. Today I finished my personal gallery: Wiris Gallery // Travel Photography. All of the photos there have been taken with my pentax K10D. I would like you to have a look at it and tell me what you think (about the photos, but also about the gallery look itself).

Thanks for looking.

Question about aperture blades on my fa 31 ltd

Thank you for your replies. Apparently it doesn't affect image quality and from f1.8 to f5.6 it has a shape more similar to a circle. I'm definetly not going to worry about it anymore.

Thanks.

Hi! I recently recieved an fa 31 ltd, and I've been giving it a fast test today to make sure it works well. I'm quite happy with the results, but I've found some CA/PF in some shots. I would like to know your opinion about it, is it normal? Maybe after reading so many positive reviews of this lens regarding it as excellent I was expecting perfect performance an I'm being too critic.

Both taken at f1.8

Well, happy ending at last! Yesterday I finally recieved the lens (after more than 20 days since I purchased it). I'm definetly going to give them a neutral vote, and not a positive one because of false advertising (to sell products they don't have in stock).

I'll post here any update as feedback for anyone interested in buying something from prodigital2000.

Hi! On May 10 I purchased a PENTAX smc FA 31mm f/1.8 LIMITED from prodigital2000 store on ebay. After some days without receiving any mail with the shipping confirmation of my order I sent them a mail to knew why it took so long to ship my lens but didnít receive a response. Some days later I sent another mail but it was unanswered too. Now I don't know what to do. I've seen they've a phone number, but I'm from Spain and calling them would cost me an arm and a leg! Need help! Anyone from Canada could call them on my behalf to see what's happening?

My order id is: #140230682961

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can anyone show me the non-macro capabilities of the da 35 macro limited?

Hi! I'm considering to buy the da 35 macro limited. It seems to be a great lens at a great price. I've seen many great photos taken with it, but the 99% are macro shots. I'm looking for a "normal lens" that's able to provide great macros when I want it to, but also that can compete with the fa31 limited and the fa 35 f2 in landscape, portrait, and general street photography. Do you think this lens will fulfill my requirements? I've never had a macro before, and I don't know how it behaves in aspects like focusing speed, etc. Do you think it's fast enough for these applications? Finally if you coul post some non-macro photos with this lens I would be really grateful.

Questions about pentax fa 43mm f1.9

Wow!! thank you very much Nesster for this comparison! The 16-45 photo really seems like out of focus compared to the 43mm ltd. I wasn't expecting so much difference between both lenses in terms of sharpness. I'm also impressed of the lesser CAs produced by the 43 ltd (although I think they're a little higher than desirable).
