Pentax 67ii winder locks

As far as I know, once 67 runs out of batteries, it'll stay in locked position, with mirror in mid-position, until you unlock it. Apparently, the same goes for 67II, too.

The manual says you have to press safety release button and shutter to unlock it - as per User's manual, page 4:

Yeah, it's dust.
It's pretty hard to get rid of that stuff - I'm constantly cleaning the scanner and film strips, but it keeps reappearing...

Suggestions to improve flatbed scanning

I've been using 8800F scanner for almost two years now, and I'm quite satisfied with it's IQ. I suppose it was me who suggested to hin to use A4 piece of glass instead of scanner's plastic holders since I'm using that setup often.
I'm using standard glass, and yes, I'm having quite some issues with Newton's rings (clearly evident here), but it depends greatly on curling of specific film - curled film means more Newton's rings. Sheet of ANR glass should solve all the problems, though.
Software side, I'm using VueScan 8.something, I'm scanning to TIFF files, at 2400 dpi, and then doing manual per-channel color correction, sharpening and cleaning in Photoshop CS5.

I've been playing with friend's Epson V700, and it is significantly better scanner, but over here in Croatia it costs exactly three times as much - IQ difference is not that better.
Scanning with glass sheet boosts Canon's output quality to surpass default Epson's output, I can just wonder what can V700 do with better scanning technique.

There are a few downsides of scanning with glass sheet is speed - scanning with scanner's plastic holders is much faster, and much much cleaner process - glass sheet scanning requires that all factors in formula be perfectly clean and spotless, and that can be very tricky - you have to clean lamp, glass, negatives AND flatbed, and that can take a lot of time, so when I'm not aiming for ultimate quality (e.g. when I'm scanning my daily project negatives), plastic holders do their job acceptably.

Pentax Q in the Flesh

Like every enthusiast photographer, I've been striving for fast glass and big sensor/film to achieve shallow DoF. In the process, I realized almost all of my photos were taken at medium-to-small apertures, I've been aiming for as much DoF as possible, while still being hand-holdable (meaning, bigger sensors are actually a disadvantage), I'm not printing photos bigger than A4 size, and that most used camera was my phone camera (being the best made at that time, that wasn't a problem - SonyEricsson K800i). Also, I realized my bigger cameras constantly got left at home. Recently I switched to HTC Android-based smart phone, I'm using it's camera and numerous camera apps constantly, and I'm amazed how good pictures it can spit out, with only three controls left for me - exposure compensation, ISO and spot metering. If Pentax Q, with full controls and raw output, can match smart-phone image quality, I'm buying it as soon as wide(r) fast lens becomes available.

maybe some wannabe universal standard? something like compact, modern M42-like mount, used on cameras by different companies?

that would be really nice, seeing something contrary to standard fragmentalization.

Ricoh to buy Pentax camera business from Hoya

I'm fully aware of that fact - Pentax DA-series lenses are way too big. :D

For me, larger sensor = larger cameras. And full-frame 135-sized sensor simply can't deliver IQ good enough quality for increased camera-size penalty it brings.
When I need ultimate IQ, I'll bring medium format camera with me. In the mean time, APS-C does it's job just fine (for me, at least).

But that boils down to personal preference and shooting style, I suppose. ;)

Aaah! I hope this means K-mount module for GXR system! That's good enough for me.

I don't understand all you wanting Pentax to be just another Canikon, but with K-mount. If you want Canikon-like lenses and Canikon-like cameras in K-mount, why are you wasting your time and money on K-mount, in the first place?

I like Pentax primarily it has, for me, much better ergonomics and much better price-performance ratio. Also, I like Ricoh's high-end compact cameras for their excellent ergonomics, and their excellent, not me-too, ideas - specifically, the GXR system, and GR-series compacts (both film-based GRs, and digital GRDs).
So, I see this merger as clear win-win situation. :)

That M39 Industar-50 is an SLR lens, rangefinder version is double the length.

On the other side, what's the lens cap size you're using on that lens? It seems I lost mine, and can't remember what size it was.

Yeah, me too. :D

[dream mode on]

In fact, I only need three lenses - normal, wide-angle and short tele. DFA 25/4, DFA 55/2.8 and let's say FA 150/2.8 would be nice. Although, I wouldn't mind having FA 75/2.8 as well. :D

I've been using MX as my 365 project camera for more than 310 days now, so I think I'm able to bring a few conclusions about that camera.

What I've noticed about my MX is that 1/1000 speed isn't always exactly 1/1000, sometimes it is faster, but only on half of the frame. Said problem can be clearly seen here.
I haven't experienced shutter problems on slower speeds, though, but before I started the project, shutter was working erratically - ranging from constant ~1/60 to constant ~1/1000. It usually returned to it's normal operation after 7-10 dry firings.

Another problem was MLU - camera would go into unofficial MLU mode, and stayed there. For the beginning, MLU "mode" activated only on 1/15 and slower, but eventually almost every exposure slower than 1/1000 was problematic. Since the beginning of the project, MLU went on less than a few times - when the temperature was well below -10C and once when it was well over 35C.

Drained batteries are so common, I don't even count it as a problem. :D But, using Kodak S76 (SR77 equivalent) batteries solved the problem, I've been using the same pair for more than 6 months now. No-name LR44 batteries proved to be more problematic, though.

I can't say I've had problems with meter showing off reading, it proved to be more-or-less within film latitude. On the other hand, it's me who is metering brainlessly, like metering off the bright sky vs. building in a shade. But hey, at lease I've learned to think before pressing the shutter release. :D

Jussi, I say you've experienced just a little bit of possible problems with the MX, it could be worse. ;)

it hope they wouldn't use the name L-x for EVIL camera. i say it should be called M-x - since original MX was designed to be as compat and portable as possible.
