Why are the Q's so expensive??

Agree $1000 isn't chump change. What I am saying is a Q body and all 8 lenses can be bought for under $1000. One lens is a fisheye, another is an 80-200 equivalent lens with a f2.8 constant aperture, a third is an ultrawide zoom, the fourth is a fast normal lens, and the 5th is a 24-70 equivalent zoom. No other entry level dslr system will be even close to $1000 with equivalent lenses.

No one said all 8 lenses have to be purchased.
thanks,

Focus adjustable c mount adapter?

Using shims on the Q c mount adapter to reach infinity focus. It is critical on the 3.2mm f1.8 fixed focus fisheye. A pain since the settings are lost if used on the Olympus m4/3 and then moved back to the Q.

Does anyone make a C mount with inner donut that can be screwed slightly in or out and then be locked via Allen screws? This would allow adjusting infinity once and never messing with metal shims.

Think the Q series, excepting the S1, is now inexpensively priced. It should be possible to buy a Q and all the lenses for under $1000. How many other systems can duplicate that? The Q system is a great buy.

Pentax Q for astrophotography beginner?

Geo444 did you see these new tiny sensor astro cams? They have a smaller sensor than the original Q, if the mentioned 7.2 crop calculation is correct. Reading the comments is illuminating. Some have no idea why a small sensor is useful in astrophotography. A shame.

Any idea how the Q would perform vs these Tiny cameras?

Thanks kwb. That is a cool plate bolt. Love the way it works with coin, hex, or even fingers. Well thought out. Will have to try the coin/hex mod on my plates.

Thanks for the picture and reply,

What processing software do you use with your Pentax Q series?

buberfan welcome to the Q. It is a great little system camera and a lot of fun. It allows people to concentrate on creativity.

I shoot mostly Raw and process them in the Supplied SilkyPix/Pentax program. Then I save the file as tif and do minor levels adjustments and resizing for web in Photoshop Elements.

Thanks,
barondla

Sorry to hear your lens front elements have also separated. Hadn't used mine for a while and thought it had fogged up due to going from air conditioning to humid outdoors. Nope. Totally useless lens. Such a shame.

Very good results with the Sigma 400. Unfortunately mine developed the dreaded front element separation. Always liked the lens.

Anyone know what this means?

Is it possible to modify Arca QR hex plate screw?
Posted By barondla
Replies: 10

The plate is shorter than the thickness of the Q body. The bolt is recessed between the two plate walls. So a coin will only be able to turn about 1/8 turn each time. Hex key places the grip above the plate ridges and will turn 360.

I could change bolt out, but then if I carry any other camera or lens in the case their Arca plate won't be compatible. Would have to carry hex and screw driver. I rarely need to remove a plate, unless I forgot to pack the removal tool😟. A slot that fits a coin would be an emergency backup.

Thanks,
barondla

Thanks for the tips. Might go the easy route and buy another screw as suggested. However, giving up the hex head means it will take much longer to change the plate out using a coin. Which is why I wanted hex and slot on same screw. Hard to go wrong when both options are present.
Thanks,
