Suggestion Option to jump to first unread post by clicking on thread title

Thank you for having a look at that! I just saw this as a standard option in another forum and realized that I don't use other navigation anymore as this suits my habits best.
But, right, might try the mobile skin again.
Maybe this is something for the next big change in the forum software, IIRC you were speaking of that.
Best regards, M

Suggestion Option to jump to first unread post by clicking on thread title

Hi,
I might have missed this option and I am aware of the jump to first unread botton/arrow next to the thread title...
But, I prefer to use the regular skin also on my mobile phone, the new high resolution 6" screens seem comfortable enough for that, and by this this button gets very small and hard to press on a touchscreen.
Would it be possible to add an option at the Thread Display Modes: Linear, oldest (youngest) first, jump to first unread.
As this would be for me just a default setting for any thread I would open in this forum just by clicking the title.
It might make a great site even s little bit more easy to browse for me, thank you and keep up the great work!

PENTAX KP IR online

At our university we use a IR converted D800 as an additional camera in aerial photography for archaeological prospection purposes. It helps to identify vegetation marks, as it enhances the contrast of underground structures getting visible e.g. in ripening crop, making use of the red edge shift.

I find this great news, if Ricoh continues to support such industrial sensors in their cameras. I have already suggested that I would like to see the Q-series with multiple sensors. IR,UV,foveon...

Before this becomes another UHS lonely cowboy thread:
I think it is noted that you wish all lenses would be without rotating focus ring. Some people have pointed out that this would either require a complete decoupling of the ring during focussing, therefore no quick shift manual focus, or a in lens motor construction. While the first is a no go for many here, including me, the second will not happen, as it is exactly what a new batch of an existing lens is not: a complete new construction. Adding a new coating is a minor tweak, but especially with such a wide lens, where it is almost impossible to avoid sun or other light sources to be in the field of view or illuminate the front element, it might be a most welcome one.

If the rotating focus ring thing persists here I,'m out...

obviously for you. I, on the other hand, hate focus by wire, that modern lenses have. rotating focus ring on the 20-40 ltd with quick shift works like a charm for me.

I still very much like the Q with the prime 01 for street and on the fly portraits.
And I would wish they would keep it alive.
Especially computational photography could give the system a new boost. Just thinking about (one of the two) 1" BSI-sensors from the Theta, the computational power (there necessary for stitching) and the Android system with open API and SDK could bring all possibilities of phone cams in a real camera with much better ergonomics and real interchangeable lenses...
Go, do it! You have an immediate costumer if done right!

I tend to disagree. I chose Pentax for their dedication to DSLRs, something they've repeatedly emphasized in recent interviews. I really don't need patronage on my choice, especially not in a forum dedicated to exactly this producer of DSLRs. If one of you is happy with his Sony, enjoy, you may tell it once, but after the third thread that is getting derailed because someone feels the need to be such a good person to tell all others what they are missing in his opinion it is getting an annoyance. I'm able to find this and much more information if I want, no need to push it, especially with some pathetic view of "wanting to make the brand better". Thanks for the understanding.

I still hav not seen a single example where stars on the MkII disappeared that would be visible on the K-1 MkI.

Lens correction might be optional in theory, but many lenses are not optically corrected anymore and lens correction is considered to deal with these deficiencies. At it is not lossless at all, I bet vignetting correction at the edge costs you more detail in critical conditions than any Pentax MKII processing.

Just, AFAIK there was no announcement for a release date of the 70-200, thus "delay" might not be the proper term. I do hope it will bring what you are looking for Taking recent lenses by Pentax as an indicator it might be worth the wait.

Yes, the rolling shutter effect, unfortunately present with ES, would make it a bad choice for photogrammetry and image based 3D-modelling. Here the GR with the leaf shutter excels.

GR III vs KP Image Quality

This is along my lines of thought too. With the 20-40, DA 50 1.8 and 50-300 PLM I can cover a very broad range, with the 20-40 being decently sharp at 20-30 and the 50 taking over for portrait etc. Last year I have been thinking of getting an IRIX for my wideangle extension (the 15mm limited doesn't suit me, because I tend to document building structures etc. and corner sharpness is very much needed) but do cover this now with my GR II, for which I even got the GW-2 to go even wider. As of today it would be a hard decision between GR III with GW-3 and the 11-18, to be honest. But there is still some time before an addition to my equipment is imminent.

DP Review puts K-1 Mark II as second worst camera of 2018

I don't understand why a debate about the semantics of MarkII and its correlation to a some month old comment in a (literally) drunk christmas video is still of any interest. I assume it all has been said on one of the previous 51 pages.

Way more interesting, DXO puts the sensor in the new 2300€$ Canon somewhere in the category of the (how old?) 5D MarkIV, with 89 points not do hot. Seems really that IQ of K1 is not getting old so fast...

But it remains a fact, that the K-1 at this price closes the niche the suggested lower end FF with 24Mp could occupy.

Lens roadmap: Tanaka-san spills the beans

Haha, this topic just keeps staying alive. Anyway, now I#m contributing by adding my 2cs....
To the switching it on or off question: we have still no real idea when it really is "active" and when idle. Tho only data we have are proxies by the deduction of the analysis of images (mainly by photonstophotos J. Claff). I am not so knowledgeable in programming SOCs but it could easily be that every image goes through this pipeline and a real time analysis decides how strong the effect will be applied. Or the EV/scene luminance is the triggering factor...

Anyhow, all the negative press came from the mathematical assesment by J. Claff and the uncertainty dpr started to spread ("Star eater on steroids...") and not primarily (!) because photographers observed the lack of detail in the images. As with the KP, noone would be able to simply "see" any destructive effect, if it would not be for a direct pixel peeping comparison with the K-1 at 200%. And as I stated before: If your well being of an image is determined by the presence/absence of the detail preserved in noise/maybe reduced as noise, something with the setup for the image went terribly wrong already at the image taking stage. If all your other parameters (lens, stability, light, distance, atmosphere...) are perfectly controlled, I could see a reason for complaints... But since the photo is a result of the sum of all parameters, this processing is certainly not the weakest link. At least in my eyes.

24mm f1.4 as a DFA*-lens makes a lot of sense. This is THE focal lenght for nightscapes, together with the astrotracer this would be the ultimate setup that no other system can provide. It is faster than the DFA* 24-70 f2.8 and therefore covers different needs, I don't see a problem with this overlap. It is also significantly wider than the 35 and the limited 31.

20mm f4 would be also perfect. This indeed can be smaller as an alternative to the DFA* 15-30 f2.8 for landscape and architecture shooting where large aperture is not such a thing.

I would not see many options for synergies of DFA and DA at these focal lenghts. Here dedicated DA lenses can be much smaller. Which is not so much the case in tele-zooms, where there won't be much difference, thus not expecting any dedicated DA-telezooms anymore. And also the DFA* 50 f1.4 is a useful DA-lens, taking the role of a classic fast short portrait tele (the 85s).

The only thing I would wish for now would be a renewed DA 15 f4, as the wide angle is missing a prime with some updated optics for landscape travel. The DA* 11-18 f2.8 might be impressive and an absolutely necessary part of the portfolio, but it would not hurt to have a 15 up to this task at the 24+MP sensors...

phoebus has a point, this description was written when no 35mm (aka FF) DSLR was available in Ricoh land and one might understand what they wanted to say (that the area used by the APS-C sensor might capture an image with the approximately same field as a 107-307 mm lens on a sensor with the dimensions of former 35mm film would do)

You may say that it covers on APS-C the range that a lens with the said focal range on 35mm would cover, not elegantly put, but it might be considered a mainstream phrasing - at that time!

Of course this should be put straight, looks really awful.

as I said, there are many unknowns in this. what is the part that really comes to the manufacturer, how long is the initial production sum kept, how is the sales graph over the lifetime of a camera, and lenses are not considered at all. Would be interesting to know, but I doubt this can be deducted from anything publicly available.

The numbers are interesting. Just for plain fun (1) and out of curiosity I made a plain table out of this data and tried to estimate the time of production of these cameras, under the very bold assumption that this numbers are monthly production throughout the production time. I did an ever bolder move and multiplied these numbers with the price of these cameras. And guess what, the numbers match all our speculation about quaterly turnover. No, of course not, these numbers are mainly meaningless as there are too many unknowns. But maybe someone can do something with them.

Edit: as you might have noticed the Qty is divided by 100, not 10.

I also had the impression that there is still solid availability of it in Germany/Austria.
You can have a look here Pentax K-3 II schwarz Gehäuse ab € 899,99 (2019) | Preisvergleich Geizhals Deutschland

both solid sellers selling new stock. But true, it is down to two sellers, I thought there were more.

However, If I would need one brand new now, I could have one.
