Need Some Help: looking for a small "pin wrench"

Looks to me you could turn that using a set of adjustable metal dividers.
ie something that looks like a compass like you draw circles with but with metal points on both sides instead of pencil lead.
You could buy a cheap pair and file the pointed ends to shape.

Replace K-5 flash release button

Looks like you are missing two parts - the button and a little rubber boot/ cone that fits behind the button.

This is the button:
Pentax 77240-Q5 Flash Button Pop Up K-5 | K-7 | USCamera Pentax PartsUSCamera

This is the boot:
Pentax 76830-A0378 Button Rubber | USCamera Digital Camera PartsUSCamera

The boot goes in first (obviously) the wide side of the cone faces the camera, the narrow end faces outwards. Then push the button in and it *should* stay there.

If you have good eyesight and the DIY knack, US Camera will probably have the parts you need for your K7, and will help if you send them a message. Will likely only be a few measly dollars too. I think this might be the part? Pentax 77760-A0281 Connector Cover | K-3 | K-5 | K-7 | USCamera PartsUSCamera

Travel choice: k3 or k1?

When traveling I would not want to openly carry anything that yells: 'mug me I'm a rich tourist'. If you're walking around with kit that is worth the annual income of the people around you, you don't want to be too conspicuous about it.
BTW, the times I've traveled, I regret bringing my flash. Never used it. It also makes your camera look twice as large, so that's a no-no. Same with the 10-20. That's a big lump of glass and draws attention.

If you don't mind me being "arbitrary and capricious", I'd say you're crazy to want/need f/2.8 in a wide angle. f/4 should be enough for anyone for many reasons - ie: easy to hand hold wide angles, bokeh's not going to happen anyway...

Just get the 15 limited.
Yes, it's probably about $400 second hand and therefore double your budget, but just wait enough time until you have saved up for it.

Hi Les
"My Like Icon is gone missing from my posts"
Do you mean the like icon is missing only from your OWN posts, but it's visible on everyone else's?
Because if that is what you mean, that's how the page is meant to show - so you can't up-vote your own posts... ;-)
Cal

Somewhere in the custom settings of your camera, will be the custom menu item "Using the Aperture Ring" It's defaulted to disabled. Set it to enable.
Alternatively, check that the aperture ring is set to 'A' on the lens.

Ricoh's Japanese site has a special site for FA and DA Limited lenses.
PENTAX Limited Lens | RICOH IMAGING
As for the other special sites, it's likely to be translated across to the English website in the near future.
Good to see that Ricoh recognizes and are promoting the things that make Pentax special.

Update: The site is now available in English.

K-70 what lens is compatible

I have that 28-200mm tamron lens left over from the film era. It's a full frame lens, obviously, but not too amazing in image quality and has a pretty darn slow auto-focus speed. As you probably know, your digital camera is the smaller 'APS format' - the equivalent in focal length terms is 18-135mm. (Field of view at 18mm will roughly match [18 x 1.5 = 27] a film camera at 28mm, and 135 matches 200. [135 x 1.5 = 202.5])
By using a lens starting at 28mm, you're missing out on being able to take wide to normal field of view photos. I would personally find that very limiting.

I really recommend the Pentax 18-135. It's a very compact lens but actually the image quality is very pleasing and far better than should really be expected from such a long zoom range. Plus it's WR, handles well and has fast, silent focusing. What's not to like?

:( Not sure if by your question you're assuming that all lenses will fit all cameras??? They have different lens mounts. The Canon version will only work on Canon, Nikon on Nikon, etc... So you need the lens with the lens mount that matches your camera, unless you're intending to pull the lens apart or use some sort of adapter. But then it would be easier and cheaper just to get the lens with the right mount first time.

Better image quality with DA-L 18-50 than with Sigma 10-20 f/3.5, how so?

Turn off all in camera corrections. The Pentax lens supports in camera corrections, the sigma doesn't. These get baked into the raw file and depending on software, may process by default.
Also, trees aren't the static subject we imagine - they move A LOT. Even on 'windless' days, you will need a fast shutter speed (above 1/250, for example) to avoid the twigs blurring. The sigma is taken at a twice as long shutter speed as the pentax.

Besides all that, it looks like the pentax has more CONTRAST rather than sharpness to me.

I guess that's just doing a few 'style' (color / sharpness...) settings - same as for other scenes modes like portrait which makes skin look a bit more red.
They never did release the proposed "09-Telephoto macro" lens.

OK- going off subject slightly, I agree - I think the Pentax website is a actually strong point of the brand. Mainly because it doesn't follow the usual massive corporate website model of "simplicity hiding a whole lot of outdated and hidden crud." Try and upgrade your firmware or download the latest software using the websites of some other brands.

Pentax doesn't require you to either enter your serial number, correctly type in the model number of the camera then hit search, no need to parse through hundreds of irrelevant search results.
Just hit 'support' then 'software downloads' bingo. There they all are - firmware and software for every model and you can see the version number on this page too.

This article I found very helpful. For astrotracer, you need to do 'precise calibration' first. I found background light was the limiting factor to my exposure times. Good luck with the experiments.

I just bought an olympus TG-5 waterproof camera. AFTER paying, I noticed an old ashiflex behind the salesman. I asked to look at it - that triggered discussion about my old KX and other Pentaxes I have accumulated. Despite me telling him that I mostly shoot pentax, the salesman proceeded to treat me to a 10 minute rant about everything that sucked or was wrong with Pentax, Ricoh and their cameras...A true "DPReview fanboi". Still, I find that sort of thing pretty boring and my eyes glazed over during the lecture, while I looked to get out the door politely...

This is the same in every other hobby. The mainstream is strongly enforced. I also do cycling - recently Peter Sagan (several times world champion) decided to use a 'cheap' aluminum framed bike in a race in Australia. This caused major upset to all the middle aged men who believe that they must have the best of the best. (Where the best is the most expensive.) He came second in that race, giving some confirmation that it's more the user that matters than the equipment. :D

National Geographic must have had no photos of wildlife excepting turtles and sloths before the 1990s? Set aperture, set shutter speed, pre focus, pan the subject then click. ;)
